September 26, 2010 – The First D23 Scavenger Hunt is Held at Disneyland

“Get ready for the most incredible scavenger hunt in Disney history as D23 hosts the Great Disney Scavenger Hunt at the Disneyland Resort!”

On September 26, 2010, D23 held its first official scavenger hunt was held in Disneyland. Club members competed in teams of two to four, beginning at 8:45 in the morning at the Disneyland Hotel and searching across Downtown Disney, Disney California Adventure, Disneyland, and the Disney hotels. The top 10 teams won a variety of prizes from the likes of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Walt Disney Collectors’ Society, Disney Publishing, and Walt Disney Records.

September 25, 2005 – The Premiere of The Greatest Game Ever Played is Held at the El Capitan Theatre

On September 25, 2005, the premiere of the biographical sports film The Greatest Game Ever Played was held at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California. On hand for the premiere were actors and staff from the film, including actors Shia LaBeouf, Stephen Dillane, and director Bill Paxton. Also on hand were stars such as Penny Marshall, Rene Russo, and LaBeouf’s Even Stevens costar Christy Carlson Romano. The film was generally released five days later on September 30.

September 24, 2009 – Disney Theatrical Productions Donates Pieces from The Lion King Musical to the Smithsonian

“This donation is a significant addition to the museum’s entertainment collection and joins materials representative of Broadway hits.” – Brent D. Glass, Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History

On September 24, 2009, a special ceremony was held at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History to celebrate Disney Theatrical Productions’ donation of pieces from the hit Broadway production of The Lion King. Pieces included costume elements from Simba’s and Rafiki’s costumes, such as Simba’s mask and headdress, and Rafiki’s costume, custom shoes, and hat. The costumes were designed by Julie Taymor and Michael Curry. These pieces join others from the shows Cats, Rent, and The King and I.

September 23, 1955 – The Vinyl Record Firehouse Five Plus Two Plays for Lovers is Released Through Good Time Jazz

On September 23, 1955, the vinyl record Firehouse Five Plus Two Plays for Lovers was released through the Good Time Jazz label. The Firehouse Five Plus Two was a Dixieland band composed of members of the Walt Disney Company, led by Nine Old Men animator Ward Kimball, and featured Danny Alguire (assistant director at Disney), Harper Goff (Imagineer), Clarke Mallery (animator), Monte Mountjoy (jazz musician), Ed Penner (story writer), and Frank Thomas (Nine Old Men member). Later members included George Bruns (composer), Eddie Forest (Disney Studios orchestra drummer), Don Kinch, Jimmy MacDonald (head of the sound department and voice actor for Mickey Mouse), George Probert (assistant director), and Dick Roberts (professional banjo player). The album featured classic songs such as “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” and “Love Songs of the Nile.”

September 22, 2011 – The Walkthrough Attraction The Revenge of the Headless Horseman Opens in Hong Kong Disneyland

“Get ready to ‘lose your head’ at Disney’s Haunted Halloween.”

On September 22, 2011, the walkthrough attraction The Revenge of the Headless Horseman opened in The Pavilion as part of Disney’s Haunted Halloween Event of Hong Kong Disneyland. The story behind the attraction is that a traveling sideshow is eager to feature its newest exhibit – the head of the Headless Horseman. Unfortunately, the Headless Horseman is also on hand to seek revenge and reclaim his head. The attraction was popular enough that it became a recurring attraction of the Halloween event until 2014.

September 21, 1986 – The Golden Girls Wins Three Emmy Awards

“I am the lucky one who gets to come up and pick up this golden girl, but Estelle, and Rue, and Bea, and I all thank you. We’re a matched set; you can’t split us up.”

On September 21, 1986, the 38th Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California. There, out of nine nominations (many for the same category), the NBC comedy series The Golden Girls walked away with 3 Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series (for the episode “A Little Romance”), Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for actress Betty White (who appeared in the series as Rose Nylund), and Outstanding Comedy Series. The series won the final award against such series as Cheers, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, and Kate & Allie.

September 20, 2004 – The Compilation Album Disney Magic is Released Through Walt Disney Records

“A collection of all time favorite Disney hits.”

On September 20, 2004, the compilation album Disney Magic was released through Walt Disney Records. The album features pop versions of classic Disney songs, with several of these songs featured during the end credits of modern Disney animated features. Artists range from Phil Collins, to Louis Armstrong, to Julie Andrews. The 44 songs are split over two discs.

September 19, 2013 – Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean Online Closes

“Dead men tell no tales, so I’m forced to let ye live.”

On September 19, 2013, the online multi-player game Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean officially closed. Launched in 2007, the game was based on the hit Pirates of the Caribbean film series, and players could create a pirate character to sail on adventures and explore pirate myths.

September 18, 2004 – The Animated Series Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! Premieres

“Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce go, defeating any foe!”

On September 18, 2004, the first Jetix original animated series Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! premiered on ABC Family as part of the Jetix programming block. The story revolves around Chiro on the planet Shuggazoom, who teams up with the five robotic monkeys that make up the superhero team Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce. The series lasted for four seasons with 52 episodes, and was cancelled on a cliffhanger. It starred Greg Cipes as Chiro, Kevin Michael Richardson as Antauri, Corey Feldman as Sparx, Tom Kenny as Gibson, Clancy Brown as Otto, and Kari Wahlgren as Nova.

September 17, 2019 – The New Tomorrowland Marquee is Installed in Walt Disney World

On September 17, 2019, the new Tomorrowland marquee was installed in Walt Disney World. The old sign had been taken down in July, and the new sign is a simple, sleek design evoking the styles seen in modern-day innovative hubs, such as Google or Apple.
