September 26, 2010 – The First D23 Scavenger Hunt is Held at Disneyland

“Get ready for the most incredible scavenger hunt in Disney history as D23 hosts the Great Disney Scavenger Hunt at the Disneyland Resort!”

On September 26, 2010, D23 held its first official scavenger hunt was held in Disneyland. Club members competed in teams of two to four, beginning at 8:45 in the morning at the Disneyland Hotel and searching across Downtown Disney, Disney California Adventure, Disneyland, and the Disney hotels. The top 10 teams won a variety of prizes from the likes of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Walt Disney Collectors’ Society, Disney Publishing, and Walt Disney Records.

March 1, 2012 – The Disney Fantasy is Christened During Star-Studded Event

“I christen thee the Disney Fantasy. May God bless this ship and all who sail on her.”

On March 1, 2012, the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet was christened during a star-studded event held in New York City. Named the Disney Fantasy, the ship carried on the maritime tradition of naming someone as the ship’s godmother, and Disney bestowed this honor on recording artist Mariah Carey. Her then-husband Nick Cannon joined Minnie Mouse to christen the ship with a bottle of champagne. A variety of stars were on hand to celebrate this ship, including Neil Patrick Harris, Alan Cumming, and Erin Andrews. Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Thomas Staggs were also on hand at the ceremony.

May 23, 2014 – The “Rock Your Disney Side Party” Kicks Off in Disney Parks

“We’re Rockin’ our Disney Side for 24 hours – from 6 a.m., May 23 to 6 a.m., May 24, 2014, local time!”

On May 23, 2014, the 24-hour Disney Park event “Rock Your Disney Side” kicked off in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park, Disneyland Park, and Disney California Adventure Park. Guests were encouraged to embrace their “Disney Sides,” particularly if they were showing their #Heroside or #Villainside. The event began at 6:00 am in the parks’ respective time zones, and featured special character meet and greets, including an appearance by villain Maleficent.

April 11, 1925 – Roy O. Disney Marries Edna Francis


On April 11, 1925, Roy O. Disney, brother of Walt Disney, married Edna Francis in Disney’s uncle’s house on Kingswell Avenue in Hollywood, California. The two had originally met as children in Kansas City, and were introduced by Francis’ younger brother, who was working with Roy as a bank teller. Their romance prevailed through Roy’s service in the Navy during World War I, as well as his recuperation period over the southwest of the country. After they got married, Francis helped the fledgling Disney Brothers Studio, doing office work, as well as helping ink and paint animation cels. Francis continued to support her husband and his brother through their animation venture throughout her life.

March 8, 2009 – The Inaugural Disney Princess Half Marathon Takes Place

“…the Inaugural 2009 Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend will bring all women/princesses together to participate in a magical event designed to prove just how much princesses kick butt.”

On March 8, 2009, the inaugural Disney Princess Half Marathon took place in Walt Disney World’s Epcot Park. The race itself is part of a weekend session, with a kids race, the Princess 5K, and the Enchanted 10K. The half marathon event had over 7,500 participants, with winner Liza Galvan winning with the time of 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 18 seconds.

August 18, 2013 – Disney Infinity is Launched in New York City

On August 18, 2013, the action-adventure game Disney Infinity was officially released, with a launch event held in New York City’s Times Square at the end of “summer road trip” for the game. The launch event featured game demos, giveaways, and special guest appearances, including that of Chrissie Fit from Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie. The game was also available for purchase at stores nationwide n this date, with the first sets of characters from the films Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, Monsters University, Cars, and The Lone Ranger.

April 14, 1962 – The First Spring Fling is Held at Disneyland

“If you were a teen in Southern California during the 1960s, then Disneyland’s Spring Fling was the place to be and be seen.”

On April 14, 1962, the first dance event known as the Spring Fling took place in Disneyland. Teenagers dressed to the nines and came to the park to dance the night away to popular 60s sounds, with the occasional celebrity guest in attendance, including Annette Funicello. The first Spring Fling featured special prizes for guests, including the chance to win a new car, a trip to San Francisco, and Disneyland tickets. Tickets could cost up to $4.40.

May 24, 2013 – The Monstrous Summer 24 Hour Event Starts at Disneyland and Walt Disney World

“Three Disney theme parks celebrate the beginning of summer with a ‘Monstrous’ bi-coastal All-Nighter.”

On May 24, 2013, to celebrate the release of the Pixar film Monsters University, the three American Disney Parks held an event called “Monstrous Summer,” where the parks were open for a full 24-hours of fun and exciting events. There were limited pieces of merchandise available only during this event, along with special character greetings, parades, and dance parties. A distinctive nighttime spectacular called “Celebrate the Magic” also began during this celebration, and lasted all summer, lighting Cinderella’s Castle with summer-themed images from Disney movies Lilo and Stitch and The Little Mermaid, with a few others. Sweet monster-themed treats were available as part of the celebration, including a Mike Wazowski cake-pop.

March 31, 2012 – The Disney Cruise Line Ship, The Disney Fantasy, Begins its Maiden Voyage

On March 31, 2012, the fourth ship in the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Fantasy, took its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida, following an itinerary of the East and West Caribbean, and a stop at Disney’s Castaway Cay. The Disney Fantasy has 14 decks, and can hold up to 4,000 passengers, along with 1,450 crew members. In contrast to the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy features an art nouveau theme, with Dumbo as the ship’s mascot. The celebration of the maiden voyage featured fireworks and appearances by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, and Donald Duck.

September 27, 2008 – The Inaugural Expedition Everest Challenge Takes Place

“Race through Disney’s Animal Kingdom park on a unique course filled with obstacles, clues and wild scenery!”

On September 27, 2008, the inaugural Expedition Everest Challenge took place at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom park. The challenge is a 5K, an obstacle course, and scavenger hunt through the park near the Forbidden Mountain; finishers were awarded a special compass medal. Participants could take the challenge in teams, or try out for the solo challenge. More than 3,000 competitors participated in this inaugural challenge, which took place at night. The winner of the challenge was Thomas Kish from Woodstock, Georgia, finishing the course in 45 minutes, 22 seconds, beating the nearest competitor by at least three minutes.
