October 7, 2017 – The Dream Boutique Opens in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District

“From Belle to Moana, Minnie Mouse and more, now there’s something for every little dreamer at the Dream Boutique opening this weekend in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.”

On October 7, 2017, the clothing and accessory store Dream Boutique opened in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney shopping district. The store is a merchandise-only location; unlike its predecessor Anna & Elsa’s Boutique, the store no longer offers makeovers for younger guests. Dream Boutique specialized in Disney character apparel and accessories, particularly those featuring the Disney Princesses. The Dream Boutique closed on March 18, 2018, and was replaced by the Disney Dress Shop.

October 6, 2014 – Anna & Elsa’s Boutique Opens in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney

“Experience Frozen Fun All Year Long!”

On October 6, 2014, the specialty boutique Anna & Elsa’s Boutique opened in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District. Capitalizing on the popularity of the animated feature Frozen, the boutique sells merchandise featuring the characters from the film. It also specialized in makeovers, where younger guests were styled by “Crystalizers” that would transform the kids into their favorite characters from the film. The boutique closed on October 7, 2017, to become the Dream Boutique.

October 3, 2008 – The Fortuosity Shop Opens in Disneyland

“While you can still find watches here, you can also find boutique-style clothing including fashionable scarves, purses and accessories, making it a must-visit for any Disney fashionista with an appreciation for style.”

On October 3, 2008, the Fortuosity Shop opened on Disneyland’s Main Street. The shop replaced the long-standing New Century Clock Shop, which opened in the park in 1972. It features a variety of fashionable pieces for sale, including scarves, purses, and watches. The shop is also redecorated for various seasons, and is well known for its Halloween decorations.

September 25, 2009 – Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy Opens in Disneyland

“Brace yourself for eerie encounters with spooky star fields and menacing meteors.”

On September 25, 2009, the Halloween overlay of the popular attraction Space Mountain, known as Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, opened in Disneyland. This version of the attraction first opened in Hong Kong Disneyland two years prior, and features special ghostly lights and sounds as guest soar through the galaxy. This holiday version has since become a popular attraction, and has been brought back annually.

September 23, 2010 – The “Let the Memories Begin” Campaign Begins for Disney Parks

“Has a moment ever hugged you and never let go?’

On September 23, 2010, Disney Parks’ newest campaign, entitled “Let the Memories Begin” began running. Guests were encouraged to share their experiences and memories of time at a Disney Park, which were used in a variety of media sources, including print ads, television promotions, and a website dedicated to the campaign. The campaign ended in 2011.

September 10, 1983 – The Flights of Fantasy Parade Ends its Run

“Your imagination will run wild, right before your eyes.”

On September 10, 1983, the Flights of Fantasy Parade ended its run in Disneyland. Beginning on June 18, the parade featured floats and characters from rarely seen films, such as Babes in Toyland, Fantasia, and Pinocchio. The parade also featured Mickey and his friends “floating” into the parade in hot air balloons. This parade was also distinctive for being both a daytime and nighttime parade taking place at both 4pm and 10pm.

September 9, 2001 – The Country Bear Jamboree Closes in Disneyland

“The Wildest Show in the Wilderness”

On September 9, 2001, the long-running attraction Country Bear Jamboree closed in Disneyland’s Critter Country. Opening on March 24, 1972, and originally located in Bear Country, the Disneyland attraction was based on the original Walt Disney World attraction; the attraction was originally designed to be a show for the proposed Mineral King Ski Resort that was planned by Walt Disney in the 1960s. The attraction was closed to make way for the new Winnie the Pooh themed attraction, The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. While open in Disneyland, there were many special-themed versions of the attraction that featured new sets and costumes, including the Country Bear Christmas Special, as well as the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown

August 27, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club Theater Opens in Disneyland

“Walt Disney’s Cartoon Carnival”

On August 27, 1955, the Mickey Mouse Club Theater opened in Disneyland’s Fantasyland. The air conditioned theater gave guests a chance to sit down and enjoy some of the classic Mickey Mouse and friends cartoon short films that had dominated the 1930s and 40s. The shorts available were on a rotating schedule, and the theater itself was only open to guests during peak periods at the park. At one point, the theater offered an event called the 3D Jamboree, where guests put on their 3-D glasses to enjoy the short films Melody and Working for Peanuts, which were introduced by the Mouseketeers. As the only theater in the park, until the Opera House opened in the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attraction, the theater was also used for special press conferences and cast member events. It was renamed the Fantasyland Theater in 1964, and was converted to a live performance venue. The theater closed on December 20, 1981, to make way for the new Pinocchio’s Daring Journey attraction, which would open in 1983.

August 18, 2011 – Betty Taylor and Wally Boag are Honored in Special Ceremony

“…will forever pay tribute to their legendary roles.”

On August 18, 2011, a special ceremony was held at the Golden Horseshoe to honor the contributions by Betty Taylor and Wally Boag, two entertainers whose names were synonymous with the saloon; both had passed away in June earlier that year. The celebration, known as “True Legends of The Golden Horseshoe: A Tribute to Wally Boag and Betty Taylor,” featured special performances by members of the Golden Horseshoe, as well as tributes by special guests, such as Taylor’s sister, Dorothy Fields, and Boag’s daughter, Heather Dinkins. Other special Disney guests were on hand to pay tribute, including Golden Horseshoe Revue choreographer Miriam Nelson; Disney Legends Rob Dominguez, Jack Lindquist, and Richard Sherman, Mouseketeer Bobby Burgess; actor Steve Martin; and Diane Disney Miller, daughter of Walt Disney (the latter two guests gave tribute via video message). Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis was also on hand to honor the pair in his own way by donating $10,000 to the Orange County High School of the Arts in their memory.

August 16, 1958 – The Main Street Fire Truck Begins Operating in Disneyland

“Travel back in time during a breezy, one-way drive down Main Street, U.S.A. in a charming turn-of-the-century vehicle.”

On August 16, 1958, the Main Street Fire Truck began running in Disneyland. Based on the first fire engines that operated at the turn-of-the-century, guests are able to ride down Main Street and travel all the way to the front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Versions of the Fire Truck have also been added to Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World (added on October 1, 1971), World Bazaar in Tokyo Disneyland (added on April 15, 1983), and Main Street of Disneyland Paris (added April 12, 1992).
