November 28

November 28, 1991 – The Live Stage Show The Enchanted Book Shoppe Premieres in Disneyland

On November 28, 1991, the live stage show The Enchanted Book Shoppe premiered in Disneyland’s Plaza Gardens. The show told the story of Beauty and the Beast, though it was a small production. It closed on April 26, 1992, as an upgraded version of the shoe had started performing at Videopolis on April 11, 1992. Both productions helped to eventually lead into the creation of the Beauty and the Beast Broadway musical.

November 24

November 24, 1991 – The Celebration U.S.A. Parade Ends its Disneyland Run

“Do you feel the spirit that’s on the street in America today?”

On November 24, 1991, the daytime parade Celebration U.S.A. ended its run in Disneyland. Preceded by the Party Gras Parade, the Celebration U.S.A. parade was a humorous display of life in America while also celebrating patriotism and America’s diversity. The parade began on June 21, 1991, and was succeeded by the Livin’ in the USA Parade.

November 22, 1994 – The Resort Shop Maestro Mickey’s Opens in Disney’s All Star Music Resort

“Disney-themed merchandise, swim accessories, sundries and snacks offer the shopping equivalent of music to your ears.”

On November 22, 1994, the resort shop Maestro Mickey’s opened in Disney’s All Star Music Resort in Walt Disney World. The name and signage from the store is inspired by the 1942 short film Symphony Hour. Like many resort stores, it features a variety of Disney merchandise ranging from clothes to toys, along with snacks and supplies for resort guests (including toiletries and magazines).

November 19, 1990 – The Restaurant Ariel’s Opens in Walt Disney World’s Beach Club Resort

“From the moment you step through the fish-adorned ironwork gate, you’ll be immersed in a delightful deep-sea setting made for mermaids.”

On November 19, 1990, the themed restaurant Ariel’s opened in the Beach Club Resort in Walt Disney World. The seafood restaurant was designed to keep the resort’s nautical theme; it was eventually closed on May 3, 1997. The restaurant has since been reserved as a reception venue for those holding their weddings in Walt Disney World, and was briefly reopened as a full-service restaurant when the Captain’s Grille was being refurbished.

November 17

November 17, 1999 – Disney Stockholders Approve Whole Acquisition of Infoseek

On November 17, 1999, Disney stockholders approved the plans for The Walt Disney Company to acquire the remaining stock of Infoseek, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary. 43% of the outstanding common stock of the company had been purchased a year prior; this, combined with Disney’s acquisition of Starwave Corp., helped create the portal service GO Network, which featured search engines, email, and news. With Disney completely owning Infoseek, the company merged with Buena Vista Internet Group, and stocks for the GO.com portal began trading on the New York Stock Exchange the next day. The portal was eventually closed on March 1, 2001.

November 16, 1997 – Hercules Wins Four Annie Awards

On November 16, 1997, the 25th Annie Awards were held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California. At this ceremony, the Disney animated feature film Hercules walked away with four wins out of six nominations, winning for Best Achievement in Directing for Ron Clements and John Musker; Best Achievement in Producing for Alice Dewey, Ron Clements, and John Musker; Best Achievement in Effects Animation, and Best Achievement in Character Animation. While nominated for Best Animated Feature, the film lost out to Turner Feature Animation’s Cats Don’t Dance. Disney also scored a win for Aladdin and the King of Thieves as Best Animated Video Production.

November 12, 1993 – The Village Traders Shop Opens in Epcot

“Discover an open-air marketplace featuring African-themed musical instruments, wood carvings and soapstone sculptures.”

On November 12, 1993, the Village Traders specialty shop opened in Epcot’s World Showcase area. This store is the only representation of Africa within the World Showcase; though talks and potential plans for an African Pavilion have taken place, nothing further than this store has come to fruition. The space is an open-air market and features several African-themed pieces of merchandise.

November 11

November 11, 1997 – The Soundtrack for Flubber is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On November 11, 1997, the soundtrack for the live action feature film Flubber was released through Walt Disney Records. The soundtrack primarily featured the score for the film, composed by Danny Elfman, along with the song “Get Down Tonight” by KC and the Sunshine Band, which is featured in the film and its trailer.

November 10

November 10, 1993 – The Green Thumb Emporium Opens in Epcot


On November 10, 1993, the specialty shop The Green Thumb Emporium opened in Epcot’s The Land Pavilion. Replacing Broccoli & Co, the new store featured a variety of items related to the theme of gardening, including mini Mickey gardens, Mickey garden gnomes, and wind chimes. The store also featured a variety of merchandise used to promote the attraction Soarin’. It closed on April 25, 2004.

November 9

November 9, 1993 – The Sunshine Season Food Fair Food Court Opens in Epcot

“Harvest the goodness of the greenhouses of The Land Pavilion!”

On November 9, 1993, the fast-food court Sunshine Season Food Fair opened in Epcot’s The Land Pavilion. The area, formerly known as Farmers Market, features a variety of cuisines, including sandwiches, grilled fish, and vegan options; the area also serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner for Walt Disney World guests. The area is now known as simply Sunshine Season.
