June 18, 1988 – The Petting Zoo Grandma Duck’s Farm Opens in Walt Disney World

“Minnie Moo, who lives at Grandma Duck’s Farm at Mickey’s Starland, was born sporting the familiar Disney corporate symbol as a ‘birthmark’ on her hide.”

On June 18, 1988, the petting zoo area Grandma Duck’s Farm opened in Walt Disney World’s Mickey’s Birthdayland area. Sponsored by Friskies, the area was best known for being the home of Minnie Moo, a cow with a Mickey Mouse-shaped mark on her hide. The name Grandma Duck came from the comic book character of Donald Duck’s grandmother. The area closed on March 11, 1996, and Minnie Moo was moved to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.

June 17, 2016 – The Short Film Inner Workings Premieres at the Annecy Film Festival

“Do you follow your head or your heart?”

On June 17, 2016, the short film Inner Workings premiered at the Annecy Film Festival; it would eventually go on to be released alongside the animated feature film Moana. The short film looked at one man’s battle between his head and his heart, with his head wanting him to go to work, while his heart wants him to go to the beach. The short was directed by Leo Matsuda.

June 16, 2016 – The Shanghai Disneyland Band Begins Performing

“Get in the swing as this lively ensemble welcomes you to Mickey Avenue with a high-spirited mix of music and fun.”

On June 16, 2016, the Shanghai Disneyland Band began their performances on Shanghai Disneyland’s Mickey Avenue. This entertainment ensemble features marching band instruments, along with some slide whistles and kazoos to entertain guests of all ages. The show last twenty minutes, and occurs throughout the day.

June 15, 2012 – The Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café Opens in Disney California Adventure

“Swing in for the enchanting sights and sounds of Buena Vista Street – and a cup of Starbucks coffee – at this charming café.”

On June 15, 2012, the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café opened on Disney California Adventure’s Buena Vista Street. Named after the characters from the 1933 Silly Symphony The Three Little Pigs, the café serves Starbucks coffee, sandwiches, and assorted pastries.

June 14, 1985 – Card Corner Opens in Disneyland

On June 14, 1985, the greeting card shop Card Corner opened on Disneyland’s Main Street. The shop sold cards from Gibson Greetings, the nation’s third largest greeting card company; it also served as the official Disneyland information and registration center. Gibson had a long relationship with Disney, owning a greeting card shop from July 17, 1955 to 1959. Card Corner closed in October, 1988.

June 13, 1996 – The Specialty Shop The Sanctuary of Quasimodo Opens in Disneyland

On June 13, 1996, the specialty merchandise shop The Sanctuary of Quasimodo opened in Disneyland’s Fantasyland area. The shop replaced the Disney Villains shop (which itself replaced Briar Rose Cottage, Mickey’s Christmas Chalet, and Merlin’s Magic Shop). The Sanctuary of Quasimodo was created to promote the animated feature film The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and featured a vignette in the window of Quasimodo ringing the bells of Notre Dame. The shop closed on February 9, 1997, and was replaced by the Knights Shop.

June 12, 1975 – The Walt Disney Story Featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln Opens in Disneyland

“Encounter the Great Emancipator as he returns to tell the tale of generations past and share his stirring vision of the future.”

On June 12, 1975, the popular Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attraction returned to Disneyland and reopened as The Walt Disney Story Featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. The attraction originally closed on January 1, 1973, to be replaced by The Walt Disney Story. However, the attraction was brought back due to the demand from guests. The original attraction was created for the New York World’s Fair, presented at the State of Illinois pavilion, and opened in Disneyland on July 18, 1965. Since its combination with The Walt Disney Story, the attraction remains open and remains one of the most popular attractions within the park.

June 11, 1958 – The People & Places Featurette Scotland Premieres

On June 11, 1958, the twelfth People & Places featurette Scotland premiered in theaters. Filmed in CinemaScope, this 25-minute featurette explores the three distinct regions of Scotland: the highlands, the islands, and the lowlands. This featurette also looked at the various clans of the regions, the wildlife, and how history is celebrated at the Edinburgh Festival. It was directed by Geoffrey Foot.

June 10, 2008 – Disney Announces Plans to Stream Movies Online

The Wonderful World of Disney, the venerable prime-time TV show originally hosted by Walt Disney himself, is getting its geek on.”

On June 10, 2008, Disney.com released a statement that they planned to stream several of the studio’s full-length feature films online. The announced plan was that these films would be shown on the Saturday night program The Wonderful World of Disney, and then be shown for free on the online platform. The schedule included Pixar favorites Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc., as well as films Haunted Mansion, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Princess Diaries 2, Freaky Friday, and Peter Pan.

June 9, 2007 – The Attraction Cars Quatre Roues Rallye Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Rev up your engines and zoom alongside Lightning McQueen in this speedy circuit from the world of Cars.

On June 9, 2007, the Toon Studios attraction Cars Quatre Roues Rallye opened in Disneyland Paris’ Walt Disney Studios Park. Based on the Pixar film franchise Cars, guests board cars that spin around in a Radiator Springs service station area; the spinning ability is similar to the Mad Tea Party attraction found in most Disney parks.
