October 10, 2002 – The Walt Disney Company and Frito-Lay Announce Multi-Year Partnership

“Our presence at Disney properties is a new channel for us to offer a wide variety of fun snacks catering to consumers’ needs.” – Frito-Lay President and CEO Al Bru

On October 10, 2002, it was announced in a press release that the Walt Disney Company and Frito-Lay had entered into a multi-year agreement where Frito-Lay products would be featured in Walt Disney World and Disneyland Parks. Not only would Frito-Lay snacks, such as Doritos and Lay’s chips, be sold in the parks’ restaurants and snack kiosks, but Frito-Lay would also sponsor several attractions, such as the California Screamin’ roller coaster in Disney California Adventure.

October 9, 2001 – The Platinum Edition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is Released

“The One That Started It All”

On October 9, 2001, the newest version of special edition Disney DVDs, known as the Platinum Editions, were released, beginning with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This version of the film came with two discs filled with extras, including a documentary called “Still the Fairest of Them All: The Making of Snow White,” galleries featuring the evolution of character designs, and the newsreel footage of the film’s premiere at the Carthay Circle Theater. The film was restored to the technical height of the early 2000s, and featured audio commentary from historian John Canemaker, along with archival audio from Walt Disney. The release was discontinued on January 31, 2002.

October 8, 2010 – The ElecTRONica Promotion Event Kicks Off in Disney California Adventure

“This will be a cool opportunity to peek inside the world of this movie, and it’s available only to visitors of Disney California Adventure park.”

On October 8, 2010, as part of the promotions for the live action feature film Tron: Legacy, the event ElecTRONica kicked off within Disney California Adventure park. The event featured a nighttime dance party; a bar called End of the Line Club; and Flynn’s Arcade, which featured a variety of arcade games from the 1980s. The dance party also featured a variety of live performers amidst the glowing accessories and laser displays. The event ended on April 15, 2012, and was replaced by the Mad T Party.

October 7, 2017 – The Dream Boutique Opens in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District

“From Belle to Moana, Minnie Mouse and more, now there’s something for every little dreamer at the Dream Boutique opening this weekend in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.”

On October 7, 2017, the clothing and accessory store Dream Boutique opened in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney shopping district. The store is a merchandise-only location; unlike its predecessor Anna & Elsa’s Boutique, the store no longer offers makeovers for younger guests. Dream Boutique specialized in Disney character apparel and accessories, particularly those featuring the Disney Princesses. The Dream Boutique closed on March 18, 2018, and was replaced by the Disney Dress Shop.

October 6, 2014 – Anna & Elsa’s Boutique Opens in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney

“Experience Frozen Fun All Year Long!”

On October 6, 2014, the specialty boutique Anna & Elsa’s Boutique opened in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District. Capitalizing on the popularity of the animated feature Frozen, the boutique sells merchandise featuring the characters from the film. It also specialized in makeovers, where younger guests were styled by “Crystalizers” that would transform the kids into their favorite characters from the film. The boutique closed on October 7, 2017, to become the Dream Boutique.

October 5, 1977 – Kikkoman Begins Sponsorship of Adventureland Veranda

“Welcome from KIKKOMAN”

On October 5, 1977, the Japanese food manufacturer Kikkoman began their sponsorship of the Adventureland Veranda, located in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park. The Veranda served tropical-themed fast food dishes, including a burger with a ring of pineapple. Kikkoman’s corporate sponsorship ended in 1994 when the Adventureland Veranda closed.

October 4, 2007 – The French Production of The Lion King Premieres at the Theatre Mogador

“The cast is wonderful to look at and gorgeous to listen to. I find them very compelling.” – Disney Theatrical Productions President Thomas Schumacher

On October 4, 2007, the first French production of the popular Broadway musical The Lion King, known as Le Roi Lion, opened at the newly renovated Theatre Mogador in Paris. The musical was performed completely in French, and was translated from English by Stéphane Laporte, a Molière Award winning writer. The French case included Zama Magudulela as Rafiki, Jee-L as Mufasa, Olivier Breiman as Scar, Jérémy Fontanet as Simba, Léah Vincent as Nala, David Eguren as Zazu, Christian Abart as Timon, and Fabrice de la Villehervé as Pumbaa. Several key members involved with the original Broadway production were in the audience, including original director and designer Julie Taymor, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger, and President of Disney Theatrical Productions Thomas Schumacher.

October 3, 2008 – The Fortuosity Shop Opens in Disneyland

“While you can still find watches here, you can also find boutique-style clothing including fashionable scarves, purses and accessories, making it a must-visit for any Disney fashionista with an appreciation for style.”

On October 3, 2008, the Fortuosity Shop opened on Disneyland’s Main Street. The shop replaced the long-standing New Century Clock Shop, which opened in the park in 1972. It features a variety of fashionable pieces for sale, including scarves, purses, and watches. The shop is also redecorated for various seasons, and is well known for its Halloween decorations.

October 2, 1999 – FastPass is Offered in Disneyland Paris

“Squeeze as much of the magic as possible into your stay by reducing the waiting time with a FASTPASS.”

On October 2, 1999, the first Disneyland Paris FastPass was offered, for the attraction Indiana Jones et le Temple de Péril. This addition to the park was created to help guests streamline their experience; guests would pick up a pass for a popular attraction, which would give them a set time to come back and bypass the lengthier queues. It was originally tested and offered in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in July of the same year, and was later offered in Disneyland for the it’s a small world attraction on November 19.

October 1, 1982 – The Specialty Snack Shop Süssigkeiten Opens in Epcot’s Germany’s Pavilion

On October 1, 1982, the German snack shop Süssigkeiten opened in the Germany Pavilion of Epcot’s World Showcase. Süssigkeiten, which means “sweets” in German, featured a variety of German treats, ranging from Haribo gummies to Lorenz Pomsticks. The store was renamed to the Stein Haus, and features the same snacks alongside a variety of beer steins and other German-related merchandise.
