July 28, 2005 – The Lion King Begins Performances at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne

On July 28, 2005, the second Australian production of The Lion King kicked off its run at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne, Australia. The production lasted almost one year at this theater before closing on June 4, 2006; it went back to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on December 12, 2013. This production was the 9th production of the popular Broadway musical running around the world, with shows also running across North America, Tokyo, London, Hamburg, and Madrid.

July 27, 2010 – The Star Tours Attraction Closes in Disneyland

“From the creative forces of Disney and George Lucas.”

On July 27, 2010, the Disneyland version of the popular attraction Star Tours closed. The attraction was closed to make way for a revamped, prequel version of the attraction, later known as Star Tours – The  Adventures Continue. The new attraction included locations and characters from the prequel trilogy (Episode I through Episode III). The improved version of the attraction opened on June 3, 2011.

July 26, 2012 – The Series Disney Code: 9 Premieres on Disney Channel

“Mom and Dad just got here, we’re at code: 9.”

On July 26, 2012, the live-action television series Disney Code: 9 premiered on Disney Channel. It was a prank show where kids would pull elaborate, high-tech pranks on their unsuspecting parents. It was the second version of a prank show on Disney Channel, with the first being PrankStars in 2011. Disney Code: 9 was a short lived show, ending on September 28, 2012, after airing only six episodes.

July 25, 2007 – Hollywood Records Announces CDVU+ Format

On July 25, 2007, the Walt Disney Company record label Hollywood Records announced the new CD format CDVU+ (also known as CD View Plus), which provided listeners a variety of extras on each disc, including a variety of digital extras such as lyrics and photos, which can be offered on and offline. This new format also releases CDs in a recyclable format. The first band to use this new format was the Jonas Brothers, with their album released on August 7. The format was scrapped after only a few releases.

July 24, 2009 – Disney’s Christmas Train Arrives at Union Station

“Disney’s A Christmas Carol is a thrilling, multi-sensory movie directed by Robert Zemeckis that takes the classic Dickens tale to the big screen like never before.”

On July 24, 2009, Disney’s A Christmas Carol Train Tour arrived at Union Station in Chicago, Illinois. Sponsored by Hewlett Packard and Amtrak, and promoting the upcoming film A Christmas Carol, the train was scheduled to stop in 40 cities through 36 states, ranging from New Mexico to New York. The train also gave guests a sneak peek at the movie, with a glimpse at the character designs and cutting-edge technology.

July 23, 2002 – The Soundtrack for The Country Bears is Released Through Walt Disney Records

“You gotta turn the music up too to bring out the kid in you, to bring out the kid in you.”

On July 23, 2002, the soundtrack for the live-action, attraction-based film The Country Bears was released through Walt Disney Records. The soundtrack is a combination of the film score by Christopher Young, as well as songs by artists such as Brian Setzer, Krystal Harris, Elton John, John Hiatt, and Jennifer Paige.

July 22, 2004 – Disney Hosts the DisneyHand Teacher Awards

“These teachers personify the excellence in the classroom, and we are pleased to recognize and award their creativity, commitment, and dedication to their profession, students and communities, and provide them an opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices.”

On July 22, 2004, the Walt Disney Company began their DisneyHand Teacher Awards celebration, honoring 39 teachers out of 150,000 nominees in a four-day VIP party and gala celebration. This celebration also included a parade down Main Street of Disneyland. The event culminated in a special gala in Anaheim, with four of the 39 selected as Outstanding Elementary School Teacher, Outstanding Middle School Teacher, Outstanding High School Teacher, and Outstanding Teacher of the Year. Each of the nominees won $10,000, and their schools were awarded with $5,000. The honorees were selected by a special national committee of distinguished educators.

July 21, 2018 – The Confectionary Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff Opens in Disney’s California Adventure

“Visit this special shop featuring Bing Bong’s sweet candy tears – and feast on the sweet stuff you love!”

On July 21, 2018, the confectionary Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff opened in the Pixar Pier area of Disney’s California Adventure. Named after the character from the Pixar film Inside Out, the shop features sweet treats of all sorts, including saltwater taffy and rainbow cotton candy. The shop also features Pixar merchandise, including apparel and toys.

July 20, 1981 – Time Magazine Features Article “The Great Era of Walt Disney”

“In these penciled instructions to guide animators as they drew Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, one can read the history of a popular art form as it attained its first – and perhaps only – golden age.”

On July 20, 1981, the issue of Time Magazine featured and article titled “The Great Era of Walt Disney.” Located in the cinema section, the article mused on the “golden age” of animation, particularly with the success of Disney animation, ranging from Mickey Mouse to full-length feature films. This was also notable as The Walt Disney Company was going through slump at the time, and it would be several years until there was a resurgence in Disney animated features, also known as the Disney Renaissance.

July 19, 2011 – Lightning McQueen Joins Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show

“We just received word that Disney’s famous racecar is revved up and ready to make his debut performance in the show beginning today.”

On July 19, 2011, the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show attraction welcomed the Pixar character Lightning McQueen as its newest member of the show in Hollywood Studios Park. This cameo performance was part of the promotions for the Pixar film Cars 2, where Lightning and pal Mater are joined by secret agent Finn McMissile. After enjoying this themed performance, guests could meet Lightning and Mater at the Winner’s Circle area nearby. The attraction completely closed on April 2, 2016.
