July 28, 2005 – The Lion King Begins Performances at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne
On July 28, 2005, the second Australian production of The Lion King kicked off its run at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne, Australia. The production lasted almost one year at this theater before closing on June 4, 2006; it went back to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on December 12, 2013. This production was the 9th production of the popular Broadway musical running around the world, with shows also running across North America, Tokyo, London, Hamburg, and Madrid.
