July 3, 2017 – The Animation Academy Closes

“Learn to draw your favorite Disney characters!”

On July 3, 2017, the Animation Academy, located in Walt Disney World’s DisneyQuest, closed. Opening on June 19, 1998, his was an instructor-led activity where guests could learn how to draw classic Disney characters on a digital screen, and purchase their sheets to take home as a souvenir. This was the first version of the Animation Academy, with similar ones opening in L’Art de l’Animation Disney of Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios Park, Disney California Adventure, and Hong Kong Disneyland’s Town Square.

July 2, 2016 – The Coca-Cola Store Orlando Opens in Disney Springs

“Pop inside to browse exclusive merchandise, meet the Coca-Cola Polar Bear and savor views from the rooftop beverage bar.”

On July 2, 2016, the Coca-Cola Store Orlando opened in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs area. Designed to resemble a 1920s bottling plant, the store is several stories and features a rooftop bar where guests can relax with a drink and view the entire Disney Springs. The partnership between Coca-Cola and Disney goes back to 1942, and the store is a culmination of the best of both brands joining forces.

July 1, 1996 – The BoardWalk Bakery Opens in Walt Disney World

“Stroll along the seashore till you stumble upon this quaint stop where you can entice your palate with a host of freshly made house favorites…”

On July 1, 1996, the BoardWalk Bakery opened in Walt Disney World’s BoardWalk Resort. Guests can enjoy a selection of pastries and sweet treats from morning until evening, as well as a special BoardWalk breakfast, as well as a variety of sandwiches for lunch and dinner.

June 30, 1984 – The Merchandise Shop South Seas Traders Opens in Disneyland

On June 30, 1984, the merchandise stop South Seas Traders opened in Disneyland’s Adventureland. The shop, located near the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost and the Adventureland Bazaar, featured varieties of clothing, including South Seas-themed clothes. It was closed  in 2017 as a part of the Adventureland renovations.

June 29, 1990 – The Merchandise Shop Bonanza Outfitters Opens in Disneyland

“From the minute you step through the door of Bonanza Outfitters, you will feel immersed by its cozy, yet quaint and rustic ambiance.”

On June 29, 1990, the merchandise shop Bonanza Outfitters opened in Disneyland. Located in Frontierland, the store features a mix of classic and modern takes on Western clothing. It replaced the Pendleton Woolen Mills Dry Goods Store, and, in a nod to its predecessor, features Pendleton plaid button-down shirts.

June 28, 1991 – Mickey’s Star Traders Opens in Walt Disney World

“Journey with Mickey to the future for a cosmos of character goods at one of the largest shops at Magic Kingdom park.”

On June 28, 1991, the merchandise shop Mickey’s Star Traders opened in Walt Disney World. Located in Tomorrowland, the store replaced the former Mickey’s Mart. It is one of the largest merchandise stores within Magic Kingdom, and features a variety of merchandise ranging from the Star Wars franchise, to characters from classic Disney film characters.

June 27, 2016 – Frontera Cocina Opens in Disney Springs

“This contemporary culinary experience is sure to please friends, family and food lovers alike.”

On June 27, 2016, the Mexican restaurant Frontera Cocina opened in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs area. Created by eight-time James Beard Award winning chef Rick Bayless, it features upscale, contemporary Mexican cuisine, starting from the chips and salsa, and featuring dishes such as the pepito torta, shrimp mojo de ajo, and coconut-lime cuatro leches. Guests of drinking age can also partake in specialty fresh-made margaritas.

June 26, 1956 – The Attraction Rainbow Mountain Stage Coaches Opens in Disneyland

On June 26, 1956, the Rainbow Mountain Stage Coaches attraction opened in Disneyland’s Frontierland. Guests could board a stagecoach and travel around Frontierland, particularly through the Living Desert and other updates to the area. This attraction would share a road with the Conestoga Wagons, another attraction where guests are taken en masse down the Frontierland trails. Unfortunately, the attraction had many issues, including the horses often getting spooked by the Disneyland Railroad as it passed by, and the attraction was closed on September 13, 1959.

June 25, 1995 – Le Cellier Reopens in Epcot

“Sensational Canadian Cuisine”

On June 25, 1995, the restaurant Le Cellier reopened in the Canada Pavilion of Epcot’s World Showcase. The restaurant had opened on October 1, 1982, and featured Canadian-inspired dishes, including maple syrup pie. When it reopened, the restaurant had been closed for about nine months, and underwent an overhaul top-to-bottom, including a new menu featuring sandwiches and salads. This was only the first of the restaurant’s changes, as this would only last for about two years; this version of Le Cellier would end on July 20, 1997, when it became a steakhouse.

June 24, 1938 – Walt Disney Appears on Cover of Family Circle

“Walt Disney talks, mostly of his animals, and the author learns new facts about them.”

On June 24, 1938, Walt Disney graced the cover of The Family Circle magazine. Following the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Walt is interviewed about the success of the film and the characters he’s created, ranging from Mickey Mouse to characters from the successful Silly Symphonies series of short films. The cover of the magazine featured a smiling Walt surrounded by images of Donald Duck.
