June 10, 1960 – The Pack Mules Through Nature’s Wonderland Attraction Opens

On June 10, 1960, the Pack Mules Through Nature’s Wonderland attraction opened in Disneyland’s Frontierland. This was the third incarnation of this type of attraction, as it was previously Rainbow Ridge Pack Mules (open from 1956 through 1959) and Mule Pack (open from 1955 through 1956). Guests rode on mules through Frontierland past several Disneyland landmarks to the town of Rainbow Ridge, which can still be found in the shadow of Big Thunder Mountain. The attraction was closed in 1973.

June 9, 2012 – The WonderGround Gallery Opens in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District

“Enter a world of imagination and vision inspired by Disney films, characters, icons, and – of course – the mouse who started it all.”

On June 9, 2012, the WonderGround Gallery opened in the Downtown Disney District of Disneyland Resort. This merchandise store sells eclectic pieces of art inspired by Disney characters and films, featuring several local Californian artists. The store also sells Disney collectables, including pins and Vinylmation. Artist signings also are held at the gallery.

June 8, 2013 – Hungry Hobos is Screened at UCLA’s 24th Silent Film Event

“This cartoon as far as we know hasn’t been seen in over half a century.” – Dave Bossert, Producer, Creative Director, and Head of Special Projects at Walt Disney Animation Studios

On June 8, 2013, the 24th Silent Film Event was held at UCLA, with the 1928 Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short film Hungry Hobos touted as the headline of the event. The short film was previously thought to be lost, but a 16-mm print of the movie had been discovered two years prior in a movie vault in England. Since then, Disney has bought the print and restored it extensively, preparing it for this “re-premiere” at UCLA.

June 7, 2012 – Ghirardelli’s Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop Opens in Disney’s California Adventure

“Strike it rich with sublime sundaes, ice cream cones, shakes and hot drinks made with premium Ghirardelli chocolate.”

On June 7, 2012, the specialty store Ghirardelli’s Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop opened in Disney’s California Adventure park. Although a San Francisco-based company, the first version of this store opened in Downtown Disney of Walt Disney World in 1997. The store sells packaged Ghirardelli chocolate, along with a selection of treats for guests to enjoy, including the famous banana hot fudge sundae. The store is located on the Pacific Wharf part of the park.

June 6, 2002 – The Restaurant Café des Cascadeurs Opens in Walt Disney Studios Paris

“Café des Cascadeurs: where Hollywood’s bravest fill up on courage.”

On June 6, 2002, the quick service restaurant Café des Cascadeurs opened in Walt Disney Studios Paris. The restaurant is themed like a 1950s diner, featuring a beef, chicken, or veggie burger, along with Ben and Jerry’s ice cream for dessert.

June 5, 2011 – The Disney Channel Comedy Series So Random! Premieres

“So Random: it’s a party, get down!”

On June 5, 2011, the Disney Channel comedy series So Random! premiered. The series was originally a show-within-a-show for the Disney Channel Original Series Sonny with a Chance, but became a show on its own when lead actress Demi Lovato announced she would not return for Sonny with a Chance’s third season. The show is reminiscent of old comedy sketch shows in its set up, although it adds the element of the cast members playing their characters from the original Sonny with a Chance show. Musical guests were also featured on the show, with artists ranging from Andy Grammer to Colbie Caillat. The show starred Tiffany Thornton as Tawni Hart, Sterling Knight as Chad Dylan Cooper, Brandon Mychal Smith as Nico Harris, Doug Brochu as Grady Mitchell, and Allisyn Ashley Arm as Zora Lancaster. The show lasted one season with 26 episodes.

June 4, 2008 – The United Kingdom Tour Production of Mary Poppins Kicks Off

“The supercalifragilisticexpialidocious international hit!”

On June 4, 2008, the United Kingdom touring production of Mary Poppins kicked off at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth. The tour, opening five months after the West End production closed, traveled to many popular venues within the United Kingdom, including the Hippodrome in Birmingham, and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. It featured Caroline Sheen as Mary Poppins, Daniel Crossley as Bert, Martin Ball as George Banks, and Louise Bowden as Winifred Banks. The tour concluded on April 18, 2009.

June 3, 2007 – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest Wins Best Movie at the MTV Movie Awards

On June 3, 2007, the 2007 MTV Movie Awards were held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. The Disney live-action feature Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest scored two awards at the ceremony, including Best Movie; it beat out other blockbusters 300, Blades of Glory, Borat, and Little Miss Sunshine. Johnny Depp was also awarded Best Performance for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the film, beating the likes of Beyonce for Dreamgirls and Gerard Butler for 300.

June 2, 2011 – A Special Ceremony is Held to Celebrate the Opening of The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

On June 2, 2011, a special ceremony was held in Disney’s California Adventure park to celebrate the opening of the newest attraction The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. On hand to kick off the celebrations was the voice of Ariel, Jodi Benson, who performed the song “Part of Your World,” along with The Little Mermaid musical performer Sherie Rene Scott, who performed “Poor Unfortunate Souls.” The attraction was opened to the public the following day.

June 1, 2002 – The Attraction Journey into Imagination with Figment Reopens

“A little imagination goes a long way.”

On June 1, 2002, the Future World attraction Journey into Imagination reopened in Epcot. It was the first change to the attraction since its total revision in October of 1999. The original attraction opened in 1983, and went through many changes throughout its run, including a replacement of lead character Dreamfinder to Dr. Nigel Channing. The attraction still features the character of Figment, a small purple dragon that helps lead guests through the wild world of imagination. While originally sponsored by Kodak, the sponsorship ended in 2010.
