April 21, 2006 – The Live Show Disney Live! Mickey’s Magic Show Premieres

“Abracadabra! It’s Disney Live! presents Mickey’s Magic Show!”

On April 21, 2006, the touring stage production Disney Live! Mickey’s Magic Show premiered in Columbia, South Carolina. This was the second production by Feld Entertainment in conjunction with Disney. The show featured Mickey and Minnie putting on a magic show, which brought forth magic from the most beloved Disney films, such as Aladdin and Fantasia; the underlying theme was finding the magic deep within us.

August 22, 2009 – The Stage Production Disney Live! Rockin’ Road Show Kicks Off Tour

“Jam packed with music and exciting adventure!”

On August 22, 2009, the touring stage production Disney Live! Rockin’ Road Show began its run in Lakeland, Florida. The show was an original story featuring Mickey and his friends as they travel on a bus, gather acts for a talent show. Characters featured in this show include Jessie, Buzz, and Woody from the Toy Story series; Cinderella and her stepsisters; and characters from Winnie the Pooh. This was the fifth show in the Disney Live! series.

October 30, 1997 – DisneyFest Kicks Off in Singapore

“DisneyFest is the first venture of Singapore-based Disney Entertainment Projects.”

On October 30, 1997, an event called DisneyFest kicked off its run in Singapore. Originally beginning as a traveling fair called The Disney Fair, its goal was to bring Disney to other states within the United States. Opening in Puyallup, Washington, the fair only succeeded in traveling a few stops before disbanding. However, it was believed that the fair setup would be successful in Asia, and would be a testing ground for other Asian Disney projects, including potential theme parks. The fair featured a live stage show, exhibits, games, shopping, and inflatable Mickeys.

July 31, 2005 – The Stage Show On the Record Ends its Run

“In a magical recording studio, Disney’s best loved music comes to life.”

On July 31, 2005, the jukebox stage musical On the Record ended its touring production. The musical, which opened on November 9, 2004, told the story of four recording artists in a studio, with Disney songs helping to tell their story. The original touring company featured Emily Skinner as Diane, Brian Sutherland as Julian, Ashley Brown as Kristen, and Andrew Samonsky as Nick. The touring production traveled around the United States, playing in 24 cities before ending the run in Denver, Colorado.

June 4, 2008 – The United Kingdom Tour Production of Mary Poppins Kicks Off

On June 4, 2008, the United Kingdom touring production of Mary Poppins kicked off at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth. The tour, opening five months after the West End production closed, traveled to many popular venues within the United Kingdom, including the Hippodrome in Birmingham, and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. It featured Caroline Sheen as Mary Poppins, Daniel Crossley as Bert, Martin Ball as George Banks, and Louise Bowden as Winifred Banks. The tour concluded on April 18, 2009.

July 29, 2005 –Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh Kicks Off United States Tour

On July 29, 2005, the live-action show Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh kicked off the United States tour with its first show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The show featured a storyteller and her “Hunny Helpers” telling stories of the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood, It originally appeared in New Zealand on June 16, 2004.

November 29, 2006 – High School Musical: The Concert Begins in San Diego

On November 29, 2006, the touring production of High School Musical: The Concert began its run in San Diego, California. Based on the highly popular Disney Channel Original Movie, the tour featured most of the original cast, save for Zac Efron, who was off filming the movie Hairspray. Efron’s character Troy was played by Drew Seeley. The international tour reached forty cities in the United States, Europe, and South America. A special recording of the tour premiered as a one-hour special on Disney Channel on May 4, 2007; a DVD and CD of this recording was made available on May 1. The concert also featured recording artist Jordan Pruitt as the opening act.

November 9, 2004 – The Disney Jukebox Musical On the Record Premieres in Cleveland, Ohio

On November 9, 2004, the Disney musical On the Record premiered at the Palace Theater in Cleveland, Ohio, with an official opening 10 days later. The musical, known as a jukebox musical, features 64 popular songs from Disney animated classics, ranging from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Mulan, with a basic plot of four recording artists caught in a love rectangle. The show went out on national tour before closing on July 31, 2005. The cast included Emily Skinner as Diane, Brian Sutherland as Brian, Ashley Brown as Kristen, and Andrew Samonsky as Nick.

July 14, 1981 – Disney’s First Ice Show, World on Ice, Premieres

On July 14, 1981, Disney’s first edition of the ice show, World on Ice premiered in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It was and continues to be produced by Feld Entertainment, and toured 20 major cities within the United States. The show was popular enough to continue with a new theme each year, including Great Ice Odyssey in 1982, Magic Kingdom on Ice in 1983, and Happy Birthday! Donald in 1984. The themes would continue, but run for several years at a time, usually promoting a Disney film (as in the cases of Aladdin and Toy Story). In 1986, the show became international with a tour in Japan, and by 1994, the show had grown to seven productions on six continents. In 1996, the show overall show was renamed to its current moniker, Disney on Ice. The show in a part of the Disney Theatrical Group.
