February 18, 2002 – Ceremony is Held for Walt Disney World’s Revised Hall of Presidents

On February 18, 2002, to celebrate President’s Day and the revised version of the Hall of Presidents attraction, a special ceremony was held in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Planned as part of the 100 Years of Magic celebrations, the ceremony included fifty students from the nearby Lost Lake Elementary School leading the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Walt Disney World Philharmonic orchestra and the Voices of Liberty performing patriotic pieces, and a look at the newly revised Hall of Presidents attraction, featuring the new Audio-Animatronic figure of 43rd President of the United States George W. Bush.

February 17, 2004 – Disney Signs Agreement with Jim Henson Company for the Muppets and Bear in the Big Blue House

On February 17, 2004, the Walt Disney Company and the Jim Henson Company announced that an agreement had been reached where Disney would acquire the Muppets and Bear in the Big Blue House properties. This deal had gone back to the 1990s, when Jim Henson was working on a deal with Disney before his untimely death. The deal had gone south, and the Jim Henson Company was purchased by the German media company EM.TV in 2000. The Henson family bought the company back in 2003, and reopened negotiations with Disney soon after. The deal included all characters classified under the Muppet banner, including Kermit, Fozzie, and Miss Piggy, as well as all characters, copyrights, trademarks, and television library entities of Bear in the Big Blue House; the deal did not include Sesame Street entities, or Jim Henson’s Create Shop assets.

February 16, 2000 – The Disneyland 45 Years of Magic Parade Premieres

On February 16, 2000, the 45 Years of Magic Parade kicked off in Disneyland. Celebrating the park’s 45th anniversary, the parade featured characters from classic Disney films, such as Disney princesses Cinderella and Aurora, as well as several sections featuring elements from the movies Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. The parade also featured heavy cloud imagery, and a new feature of “audience participation,” where up to 45 spectators were invited to wear tutus and hats and dance during the parade. Originally the music to accompany the parade was Sir Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance,” but after a rather lukewarm reception from guests, the music was changed to a more upbeat Disney medley.

February 15, 1925 – The Alice Comedy Alice Solves the Puzzle is Released to Theaters

“Little Alice never had a cross word, not even with a puzzle.”

On February 15, 1925, the Alice Comedy Alice Solves the Puzzle premiered in theaters. It was the 15th Alice Comedy, and the first to feature second Alice actress Margie Gay. The short is notable for being the first to feature Disney nemesis Peg Leg Pete, then known as Bootleg Pete.

Alice is trying to solve a crossword, when Julius approaches her. He convinces her to give up her puzzle and go swimming instead, and the two start diving into the water with many aerial skills. Meanwhile, Pete whizzes by on a makeshift jet ski, purposefully goading the cops. Julius gets out of the water a dries off comically before helping Alice button her dress. Alice then returns to her crossword puzzle, though Pete wishes to take it from her, as he collects puzzles. Alice attempts to run away from Pete, but he chases her up the lighthouse steps and around the top of the lighthouse. Julius, seeing Alice in trouble, climbs up a rope to get to her, only to realize that the rope has fallen too late and lands with a splat on the ground. He manages to get up to the top of the lighthouse and beat Pete. As Julius celebrates his feat of strength, Alice realizes she finally knows the answer to her crossword puzzle.

February 14, 2013 – “A Celebration of True Love” Event is Held at Walt Disney World

“On February 14, you’ll have a special chance to re-commit your promise of love with your significant other during ‘A Celebration of True Love’ at Magic Kingdom Park.”

On February 14, 2013, as part of the Limited Time Magic promotions at the Disney Parks, a special event called “A Celebration of True Love” was held at Walt Disney World. Fifty couples gathered at the steps of Cinderella Castle to renew their vows and celebrate the magic of love and Disney. There was a special appearance by Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora, along with their princes, as well as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, to help the couples celebrate with fireworks and heart-shaped confetti.

February 13, 2010 – The Animated Series Kick Buttowski – Suburban Daredevil Premieres on Disney X D

KICK BUTTOWSKI - SUBURBAN DAREDEVIL - "If Books Could Kill/There will be Nachos" - Gunther accidently returns Kick's new book signed by his idol Billy Stumps to the library. When the librarian refuses to return it, Kick challenges her no-return policy and vows to get it back by any extreme means necessary. Meanwhile, Brad throws the party of the year while his parents are out of town and does everything in his power to keep Kick out, but Kick is determined to make it into the party and score some of Brad's famous nachos. This episode of "Kick Buttowski - Suburban Daredevil" airs SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13 (9:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m., ET/PT) on Disney XD. (DISNEY XD) KICK BUTTOWSKI

On February 13, 2010, the animated series Kick Buttowski – Suburban Daredevil premiered on Disney X D. The show was the channel’s fourth original series and first original animated series. The series is centered around kid Clarence “Kick” Buttowski and his aspiration to be the world’s best daredevil with the help of his best friend Gunther, and no help from his older brother Brad Buttowski. The series lasted for two seasons before its cancellation. The series was created by Sandro Corsaro, and starred Charlie Schlatter as Kick Buttowski, Matt L. Jones as Gunther, and Danny Cooksey as Brad Buttowski.

February 12, 2016 – Disney CEO Bob Iger is Named to the Toy Industry Hall of Fame

On February 12, 2016, the Toy Industry Association inducted the newest member of the Toy Industry Fall of Fame: CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger. Iger was added thanks to his contributions to the toy industry, as well as the “impact his work has had on the lives of children worldwide.” Iger was also recognized for growing the Disney portfolio with the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, and creating new creative platforms for each of them. He was inducted in a special presentation at the 16th annual Toy of the Year Awards ceremony at the 113th North American International Toy Fair, which also celebrated the Toy Industry Association’s centennial.

February 11, 2007 – Disney Animator Andreas Deja Wins Winsor McCay Award

“It’s fine to have a villain who beats people up and is ruthless, but the more important thing for me is whether or not they are interesting. The villains who have full personalities are the ones you remember.”

On February 11, 207, the 34th Annie Awards were held at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California. One of the honorees of the Winsor McCay Award was Disney animator Andreas Deja. The award, named after pioneer animator Winsor McCay, honors those who have made lifetime or career contributions to the animation field. Deja is known for animating some of the most well-regarded villains in the Disney Renaissance, including Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, Jafar in Aladdin, and Scar in The Lion King. With this award, Deja joins the ranks of esteemed animators Max Fleischer, Tex Avery, and early mentor Eric Larson.

February 10, 2008 – Ratatouille Soundtrack Wins Grammy Award

On February 10, 2008, the 50th Grammy Awards were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Michael Giacchino would win the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack Album for his work on Pixar’s animated feature Ratatouille. This was Giacchino’s first Grammy Award win with Pixar, although he had been nominated for The Incredibles in 2005. The album won against scores such as Gustavo Santaolalla’s Babel, James Newton Howard’s Blood Diamond, Howard Shore’s The Deaprted, John Powell’s Happy Feet, and Javier Navarrete’s Pan’s Lanyrinth.

February 9, 2003 – The Jungle Book 2 Premieres at the El Capitan Theatre

On February 9, 2003, the animated film The Jungle Book 2 had a special premiere at the El Capitan Theatre, the Disney-owned theatre that hosts premieres of Walt Disney Studios films. The film would go on to be released across the country on February 14, 2003. It was the third animated sequel to be released theatrically, following 1990’s The Rescuers Down Under and 2002’s Return to Neverland; like the latter, however, it is not considered a Disney Animated Feature Film. The premiere featured voice actors Haley Joel Osment, John Goodman, Mae Whitman, and Connor Funk, as well as director Steve Trenbirth, producers Chris Chase and Mary Thorne, and a myriad of celebrities, including Melanie Griffith and Marilu Henner.
