March 5, 2013 – The Soundtrack for Oz the Great and Powerful is Released through Walt Disney Records

On March 5, 2013, the soundtrack for the live action feature film Oz the Great and Powerful was released through Walt Disney Records. The soundtrack is comprised of the score to the film, composed by Danny Elfman. The soundtrack was released in both digital and physical formats, with the digital releases featured on iTunes and Amazon.

March 4

March 4, 2011 – The Updated Disney Junior – Live on Stage Show Opens in Walt Disney World

“Enchanting puppets, whimsical scenery and catchy songs invite preschoolers to sign, dance and play.”

On March 4, 2011, the updated version of the Playhouse Disney – Live on Stage show, now called Disney Junior – Live on Stage, premiered in the Disney’s Hollywood Studios park within Walt Disney World. The show featured characters from popular Disney Junior Shows, such as Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Doc McStuffins, and Sofia the First. The 24-minute show features elaborate puppets of the characters, entertaining guests as they try to solve problems and go on adventures.

February 28, 2012 – The Disney Fantasy Pulls Into New York City

“Welcome to America, Disney Fantasy”

On February 28, 2012, Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Disney Fantasy, pulled into port in New York City. The ship, built in Germany, sailed to New York to prepare for its christening ceremony before sailing to Port Canaveral, Florida; from Florida, the ship would then take its maiden voyage. The Disney Magic was the first Disney Cruise Ship to sail to New York City, and was scheduled to return in May for a summer celebration.

February 24, 2017 – The Red Rose Taverne Opens in Disneyland

“Be our guest for casual fare with a dash of French flair at this charming quick-service tavern – bon appetit!”

On February 24, 2017, the Red Rose Taverne officially opened in Disneyland. The restaurant was a revamped version of the Village Haus Restaurant, and was created to promote the live-action feature Beauty and the Beast. This new version of the restaurant featured décor reminiscent of the film, along with quick-service items reminiscent of the film’s French setting. The restaurant is famous for its Grey Stuff Gateau, a special dessert featuring the famous “grey stuff” mousse, red velvet cake, and a raspberry center.

February 21

February 21, 2010 – The Lion King Becomes Eighth Longest-Running Broadway Show

“Let every creature go for broke and sing, let’s hear it in the herd and on the wing.”

On February 21, 2010, the Broadway production of The Lion King hit a milestone 5,125th performance, making it the eighth longest-running show in Broadway history. With this performance, the show surpassed the musical Rent in number of performances. The musical has been highly acclaimed since its debut on November 13, 1997, winning six Tony Awards (including Best Musical) and eight Drama Desk Awards for the Broadway production alone. As of 2018, the production is the third-longest running Broadway musical, behind Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera.

February 20

February 20, 2011 – The First TV Spot for Cars 2 Premieres During Daytona 500

“When you’re in over your headlights, only friends can be trusted.”

On February 20, 2011, the first television promotional advertisement for Pixar’s newest animated feature film, Cars 2, premiered during the broadcast of the Daytona 500. The spot gave viewers a glimpse of the action in the international feature, and introduces the character Finn McMissile, voiced by actor Michael Caine. The spot also heavily featured the character Mater, voiced by comedian Larry the Cable Guy. It was then announced that the film would be released on June 24th of that year.

January 18

February 18, 2011 – Disney Acquires Togetherville Social Network

On February 18, 2011, Disney completed their acquisition of the social network Togetherville. The network, aimed at kids aged 13 and younger, was created by Mandeep Dhillon and Rajveer Tut, and released in a public beta version on May 19, 2010. The intent of the site was to provide children the experience of Facebook, but within the confines of an age-appropriate environment that allows parents to moderate their children’s connections. With this acquisition, Dhillon became the Vice President of TogetherVille, as well as Vice President of Strategy at Disney Interactive. The Togetherville network was discontinued in March, 2012.

February 17, 2017 – The Nighttime Show Rivers of Light Premieres in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

“Embrace the magic of nature during a nighttime scene awash with captivating special effects, music and animal folklore.”

On February 17, 2017, the new nighttime show Rivers of Light premiered in Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Discovery River. The show was part of an overall evolution of the park, turning it to a day-to-night park, and features several floating sets, live performances, and water effects, celebrating the beauty and wonder of nature. The show also features scenes from the Disneynature series of films, as well as technology never-before-seen in a Disney nighttime show.

February 14

February 14, 2012 – Paula Abdul Visits Walt Disney World

On February 14, 2012, entertainer and judge of American Idol Paula Abdul visited Walt Disney World. Abdul helped celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special photo shoot with none other than Minnie Mouse in Hollywood Studios, who wore a special heart-shaped polka dot dress to honor the day. Abdul had visited the park back in 2009, when the American Idol Experience attraction opened in Hollywood Studios.

February 13, 2017 – The Geyser Point Pool Bar & Grill Opens in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

“Stake your claim at a poolside eatery featuring explorer-worthy bites, trails-end spirits and stunning views of Bay Lake.”

On February 13, 2017, the restaurant and bar Geyser Point Pool Bar & Grill opened in Walt Disney World’s Wilderness Lodge. Located near the outer deck of the resort, guests can order a variety of burgers, salads, desserts, and alcoholic beverages with a selection of small plates. The design of the restaurant and bar is designed in invoke the atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest.
