November 6, 2012 – Disney Announces $16.8 Million Raised for Hurricane Sandy Relief

“Today, join us for a day of giving on ABC.”

On November 6, 2012, Disney/ABC Television Group announced that they had raised over $16.8 million for those devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The proceeds came from what Disney called the “Day of Giving,” where ABC programs asked viewers to give what they could to those impacted by the hurricane; this “Day of Giving” was accompanied by efforts through the Disney Store and DisneyStore.com. American Red Cross public service announcements were also broadcast throughout the day.

October 17, 2017 – The 30th Anniversary Screening of The Brave Little Toaster Premieres

On October 17, 2017, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the animated film The Brave Little Toaster, a special screening was held at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Upon purchasing a ticket, guests were also given a variety of gifts depending on ticket level, with every guest at least leaving with an original sketch and an animation cel. There was also a Q&A session with a variety of folks involved in the film, including the movie’s director, Jerry Rees, who help write the screenplay with Joe Ranft; Deanna Oliver, the voice of Toaster; composer and music arranger David Newman, and animator Kevin Lima. Producer Donald Kushner was also on hand to sell a variety of original artwork of the film from his personal collection.

October 14, 2010 – Duffy the Disney Bear Makes Official Debut in American Disney Parks

“He’s Mickey’s very own teddy bear…made with love by Minnie herself.”

On October 14, 2010, the character of Duffy the Disney Bear made his official debut in the North American Disney Parks, particularly Epcot in Walt Disney World and Disney California Adventure. A popular character in Tokyo DisneySea, the character was introduced as Mickey’s special bear given to him by Minnie before he set off on a long adventure; the bear originated in Wat Disney World’s Once Upon a Toy as a Disney-themed teddy bear, but was given a backstory when he was brought over to Japan. Duffy, in his character meet-and-greets, wears a special sailor suit. In addition to being added to parks as a meet-and-greet and in merchandise, Duffy got a special program in Epcot where younger guests could take a Duffy mask from country to country, where they could learn about the countries in the World Showcase and earn special Duffy stamps.

October 12, 2017 -The Villages Nature Paris Project is Unveiled

“Explore all five immersive worlds and the unforgettable experiences they promise.”

On October 12, 2017, the joint project between Euro Disney and Pierre & Vacances-Center Parcs, known as Villages Nature Paris, was announced and opened. Located minutes from Disneyland Paris, this project was years in the making, and provides guests with an immersive, natural experience in five areas: the water park Aqualagon, BelleVie Farm, the five-acre Extraordinary Gardens, the Lakeside Promenade, and the Forest of Legends. The areas provide a variety of activities, including zip-lining, breadmaking, and wine tasting. The idea of the Villages Nature Paris was to promote what is known as “sustainable tourism,” as the 300-acre area seeks to reduce its carbon footprint, and protect the wildlife around it, through a variety of green methods.

October 8, 2010 – The ElecTRONica Promotion Event Kicks Off in Disney California Adventure

“This will be a cool opportunity to peek inside the world of this movie, and it’s available only to visitors of Disney California Adventure park.”

On October 8, 2010, as part of the promotions for the live action feature film Tron: Legacy, the event ElecTRONica kicked off within Disney California Adventure park. The event featured a nighttime dance party; a bar called End of the Line Club; and Flynn’s Arcade, which featured a variety of arcade games from the 1980s. The dance party also featured a variety of live performers amidst the glowing accessories and laser displays. The event ended on April 15, 2012, and was replaced by the Mad T Party.

October 7, 2017 – The Dream Boutique Opens in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District

“From Belle to Moana, Minnie Mouse and more, now there’s something for every little dreamer at the Dream Boutique opening this weekend in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.”

On October 7, 2017, the clothing and accessory store Dream Boutique opened in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney shopping district. The store is a merchandise-only location; unlike its predecessor Anna & Elsa’s Boutique, the store no longer offers makeovers for younger guests. Dream Boutique specialized in Disney character apparel and accessories, particularly those featuring the Disney Princesses. The Dream Boutique closed on March 18, 2018, and was replaced by the Disney Dress Shop.

October 6, 2014 – Anna & Elsa’s Boutique Opens in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney

“Experience Frozen Fun All Year Long!”

On October 6, 2014, the specialty boutique Anna & Elsa’s Boutique opened in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District. Capitalizing on the popularity of the animated feature Frozen, the boutique sells merchandise featuring the characters from the film. It also specialized in makeovers, where younger guests were styled by “Crystalizers” that would transform the kids into their favorite characters from the film. The boutique closed on October 7, 2017, to become the Dream Boutique.

September 29, 2017 – The BaseLine Tap House Opens in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

“Venture down to this cheery corner pub specializing in California brews and wine.”

On September 29, 2017, the BaseLine Tap House opened on Grand Avenue in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The bar, replacing Buy the Book/The Writer’s Stop coffee house and bookstore, sells a variety of California-based wines and beers; the bar itself is reminiscent of modern-day LA, created with a warehouse theme. Guests can also purchase a variety of snacks to accompany their drinks, which they can enjoy on the bar’s terrace.

September 27, 2010 – The Confection Shop Karamell-Küche Opens in Epcot

On September 27, 2010, the confectionary shop Karamell-Küche opened in the German pavilion of Epcot’s World Showcase. Sponsored by Storck and Werther’s Original Caramel, guests can see the cast members create a variety of caramel treats, including caramel apples and caramel popcorn; guests can also purchase candies from the famous German companies. It replaced the shop Glas und Porzellan, which closed on July 12, 2010; it was known, upon opening, for being the sole location for Storck sweets.

September 23, 2010 – The “Let the Memories Begin” Campaign Begins for Disney Parks

“Has a moment ever hugged you and never let go?’

On September 23, 2010, Disney Parks’ newest campaign, entitled “Let the Memories Begin” began running. Guests were encouraged to share their experiences and memories of time at a Disney Park, which were used in a variety of media sources, including print ads, television promotions, and a website dedicated to the campaign. The campaign ended in 2011.
