November 7, 2009 – Disney VoluntEARS Clean Up Brevard County

“Picking up trash on the beach is a simple action that people can take to really make a difference for wildlife and wild places.” – Jackie Ogden, Vice President of Animal Programs and Environmental Initiatives for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts

On November 7, 2009, approximately 400 Disney VoluntEARS headed out to the Brevard County coastline to clean up 1,080 pounds of trash across four miles. This volunteer project was a joint effort between Disney VoluntEARS, the Ocean Conservancy, Keep Brevard Beautiful, the United States Coast Guard, and the Canaveral Port Authority. This was the sixth year of Disney’s involvement with the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup; in this time, over 1,700 VoluntEARS have picked up around 26,000 pounds of trash around the Florida coastline.

November 6, 2012 – Disney Announces $16.8 Million Raised for Hurricane Sandy Relief

“Today, join us for a day of giving on ABC.”

On November 6, 2012, Disney/ABC Television Group announced that they had raised over $16.8 million for those devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The proceeds came from what Disney called the “Day of Giving,” where ABC programs asked viewers to give what they could to those impacted by the hurricane; this “Day of Giving” was accompanied by efforts through the Disney Store and DisneyStore.com. American Red Cross public service announcements were also broadcast throughout the day.

November 3, 2009 – Disney Announces Investment in Forest Conservation Projects

“That’s why as part of our company commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to protect diverse habitats we’re making a major investment in projects to protect forests…”

On November 3, 2009, The Walt Disney Company announced a $7 million investment in various forest conservation efforts worldwide, including the Amazon, the Congo, the Lower Mississippi River valley, and Northern California; $4 million of this will go to work with Conservation International for restoration projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the Alto Mayo conservation project in Peru. Disney, already working on cutting down their fossil fuel use and their carbon footprint, made these donations to help partners Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy, and The Conservation Fund.

May 14, 2007 – Walt Disney World Makes a Donation to Orlando’s Performing Arts Center

On May 14, 2007, the Walt Disney World Resort announced its plans to make three significant donations to the Central Florida area, beginning with a $12.5 million commitment to the Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center. Disney’s contributions to the area trace back to 1989, when they contributed $425,000 to build the amphitheater for community events. By 2007, Disney’s contributions to the amphitheater totaled more than $1 million.

May 3, 2005 – The Compilation Album Disney Wishes! Is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On May 3, 2005, the special compilation album Disney Wishes! was released through Walt Disney Records. All proceeds from sales of the album went to the Make A Wish Foundation, with which Disney has a long-standing partnership with through the Disney Worldwide Outreach Program. The album features covers of classic Disney songs, performed by such artists as Barbara Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Bette Midler.
