September 10, 2007 – The Shuttle Crew of the Endeavour is Honored in Walt Disney World

“The seven space shuttle Endeavour astronauts who returned to Earth Aug. 21 will be honored in a day of ceremonies at Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on Sept. 10.”

On September 10, 2007, the seven astronauts that flew on the NASA flight Endeavour were honored in Walt Disney World with a whole slew of celebrations and events. This day included media interviews, a plaque dedication, and a parade down Main Street, U.S.A. An educational program within the series of events featured students from nearby schools, and was streamed live over NASA’s website.

September 9, 2004 – CEO Michael Eisner Releases Letter Announcing Retirement

“We are different from companies not in the entertainment field. We are a creative company, and as a result, we are so much more.”

On September 9, 2004, Michael Eisner, then-CEO of the Walt Disney Company, released a statement stating his intention to retire from his role upon the conclusion of his contract on September 30, 2006. Eisner joined the company in 1984 alongside Frank Wells, and the two were able to bring the Walt Disney Company to a new level of success and resurgence. The letter also alluded to certain issues the board had been facing in the recent years, but Eisner assured stakeholders that the board would remain committed to its goals, and Eisner would never lose his love for Disney.

September 8, 2014 – The Revamped Tokyo Disneyland Attraction Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions Opens

“ゆかいな船長と一緒に、野生の動物たちが住む神秘的なジャングルを探険!”

On September 8, 2014, the newly revamped Jungle Cruise attraction, renamed Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions opened in Tokyo Disneyland. Originally opening in the park on April 15, 1983, the attraction underwent a variety of changes, including new lighting and special effects, as well as original music to accompany the ride. Guests can also take a nighttime cruise with a “thrilling atmosphere” and special nighttime elements.

September 7, 1984 – Tangier Traders Opens in Epcot’s Morocco Pavilion

On September 7, 1984, the clothing store Tangier Traders opened in the Morocco Pavilion of Epcot’s World Showcase. It features traditional Moroccan clothing, including tunics, dresses, and shoes; it also features a variety of trinkets and Moroccan treats.

September 6, 2004 – The Attraction Le Visionarium Closes in Disneyland Paris

On September 6, 2004, the Circle-Vision attraction Le Visionarium closed in Disneyland Paris. Opening on April 12, 1992 in Discoveryland, the attraction combined the film From Time to Time with the Audio-Animatronics of 9-Eye and the Timekeeper; this was the first attraction in a Disney park to combine the two.

September 5, 2000 – The Disneyland Attraction Rocket Rods Closes

On September 5, 2000, the high-speed Tomorrowland attraction Rocket Rods closed in Disneyland. Opening on May 22, 1998, it was built to replace the PeopleMover attraction, and at the time was the fastest attraction in Disneyland. Unfortunately, the attraction closed often due to malfunctions, which led to its inevitable closing.

September 4, 2001 – The Restaurant Yucatan Base Camp Grill Opens in Tokyo DisneySea

On September 4, 2001, the counter-service restaurant Yucatan Base Camp Grill opened in Tokyo DisneySea’s Lost River Delta area. The restaurant features oven roasted chicken, oven roasted spicy salmon, and vegetable and bacon cream soup. The restaurant also features seasonal offerings for specific holidays and events.

September 3, 2018 – Pixar Fest Ends in Disneyland

“Celebrating friendship and beyond!”

On September 3, 2018, the biggest Pixar celebration to come to Disney parks, called Pixar Fest, ended its run. Beginning on April 13, 2018, the celebration featured tributes to the beloved Pixar films, such as the nighttime show Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular, the new Pixar Play Parade, and a limited-engagement return of the popular Paint the Night Parade. Pixar short films were also on rotation at the Sunset Showcase Theater in Disney California Adventure, while guests could also enjoy the musical stylings of The Pixarmonic Orchestra in the Paradise Gardens area. Guests were also treated to special merchandise and food offerings during the event.

September 2, 2004 – The Art Exhibit “Echoes of Africa” Opens in Epcot’s American Heritage Gallery

On September 2, 2004, the new art exhibit “Echoes of Africa” opened in the new art gallery in the American Adventure pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. Featuring important pieces from the Disney-Tishman African Art collection, this collection has been studied extensively and brought about some anthropological breakthroughs. Dr. Lizzetta LeFalle-Collins served as the guest curator for the collection, having curated several important exhibitions for the American Federation of the Arts in New York and the California African-American Museum in Los Angeles. The collection originally belonged to Paul and Ruth Tishman, with Disney acquiring the collection in 1984.

September 1, 1956 – The American Home Publishes Article About Disneyland

“Yes, the magic kingdom of Disneyland abounds in genuine antiques!”

On September 1, 1956, the home living magazine The American Home published a two page spread titled “Rare Antiques in Disneyland.” Featuring the antiques scattered around the park, it also provides pictures ranging from Main Street to Tomorrowland. This provides a look at how every detail in the park was carefully crafted, from the mason jars in Main Street’s Upjohn Pharmacy to the windows in the Red Wagon Inn.
