July 8, 2013 – Disney and Old Navy Announce Clothing Line Partnership

On July 8, 2013, Old Navy announced a special partnership with Disney through the creation of a new clothing line called “Mickey Through the Decades.” The line features rare artwork from the Walt Disney Archives to highlight the changes Mickey and the gang have gone through over the years. Prices for the clothes ranged from around $13 to $15; during the sale of the shirts, customers could enter to win a custom Disney tour and download several digital Disney items.

July 3, 2017 – The Animation Academy Closes

“Learn to draw your favorite Disney characters!”

On July 3, 2017, the Animation Academy, located in Walt Disney World’s DisneyQuest, closed. Opening on June 19, 1998, his was an instructor-led activity where guests could learn how to draw classic Disney characters on a digital screen, and purchase their sheets to take home as a souvenir. This was the first version of the Animation Academy, with similar ones opening in L’Art de l’Animation Disney of Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios Park, Disney California Adventure, and Hong Kong Disneyland’s Town Square.

July 2, 2016 – The Coca-Cola Store Orlando Opens in Disney Springs

“Pop inside to browse exclusive merchandise, meet the Coca-Cola Polar Bear and savor views from the rooftop beverage bar.”

On July 2, 2016, the Coca-Cola Store Orlando opened in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs area. Designed to resemble a 1920s bottling plant, the store is several stories and features a rooftop bar where guests can relax with a drink and view the entire Disney Springs. The partnership between Coca-Cola and Disney goes back to 1942, and the store is a culmination of the best of both brands joining forces.

June 27, 2016 – Frontera Cocina Opens in Disney Springs

“This contemporary culinary experience is sure to please friends, family and food lovers alike.”

On June 27, 2016, the Mexican restaurant Frontera Cocina opened in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs area. Created by eight-time James Beard Award winning chef Rick Bayless, it features upscale, contemporary Mexican cuisine, starting from the chips and salsa, and featuring dishes such as the pepito torta, shrimp mojo de ajo, and coconut-lime cuatro leches. Guests of drinking age can also partake in specialty fresh-made margaritas.

June 21, 2016 – The Royal Sommerhus Opens in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion

“You are cordially invited to the Royal Sommerhus to meet the beloved sisters from Arendelle.”

On June 21, 2016, the Royal Sommerhus meet and greet area opened in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion, located in the World Showcase. Here, guests can meet characters Anna and Elsa from the popular animated feature film Frozen, complete with a photo session with the princess and queen of the Norway-based country. The character greet experience is so popular that guests have waited hours to get a chance to meet Anna and Elsa.

June 19, 2015 – The Pixar Short Film Lava Premieres in Theaters

“I have a dream I hope will come true, that you’re here with me and I’m here with you.”

On June 19, 2015, the animated short film Lava premiered in theaters alongside the animated feature film Inside Out. Written and directed by James Ford Murphy, the 7-minute short film is a song sung by Kuana Torres Kahele and Napura Greig. The short is about a lonely volcano who watches all the wildlife couples around him and sings a song about his dream to find his mate. He sings every day, hoping somehow he will find love. After many years alone, the volcano is about to become extinct, unaware that an underground volcano has heard him the entire time and has fallen in love with him. She erupts to the surface, ready to meet him. As he has used up all of his lava, he is unable to sing his song to her; as she sings his song back, he is revived, and the two are joined together, singing about their “lava.”

June 17, 2015 – Zuri’s Sweets Opens in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

“After an amazing day of tracking animals and trekking forests, reward yourself with some homemade sweets and treasured treats!”

On June 17, 2015, the confectionary Zuri’s Sweets opened at the Harambe Market in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. As with many stores and attractions within Disney Parks, Zuri’s Sweets tells the story of Miss Zuri, the owner, who started her business decades earlier and is considered an inspiration to others in Harambe for her entrepreneurial and imaginative spirit. The shop features about 80 kinds of treats, including several kinds of candy apples, animal-themed sweets, and a gourmet cocoa set.

June 16, 2016 – Be Our Guest Boutique Opens in Shanghai Disney

On June 16, 2016, the themed store Be Our Guest Boutique opened in Shanghai Disney’s Fantasyland area. Taking its design cues from the animated feature Beauty and the Beast, the store sells various home décor pieces, collectibles, and other princess-themed toys and costumes for children.

June 15, 2012 – Big Top Toys Opens in Disney California Adventure

“Big Top Toys features innovative and interactive toys, games and plush inspired by Disney characters.”

On June 15, 2012, the merchandise stop Big Top Toys opened in Disney California Adventure park. Themed after the animated feature film Dumbo, the shop was a gigantic toy store, featuring all sorts of Disney toys, ranging from princess dolls to plush toys.

June 13

June 13, 2012 – Carnation Café Reopens in Disneyland

“At last! An expanded and spruced-up Carnation Café is getting ready for its debut June 13 on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland park.”

On June 13, 2012, the newly refurbished and expanded Carnation Café opened on Disneyland’s Main Street. The café expanded into the area that formerly housed the Blue Ribbon Bakery, and featured a new menu with a variety of new spins on some old favorites. The menu also featured a series of “Walt’s Favorites,” including a dish known as Homemade Meatloaf.
