August 20, 2018 – The Quick Service Restaurant Dockside Diner Opens in Tokyo DisneySea

On August 20, 2018, the quick service restaurant Dockside Diner opened in Tokyo DisneySea. Located in the American Waterfront area of the park, the restaurant features a variety of dishes ranging from roast beef sandwiches, to fried chicken and waffles.

August 19, 2011 – Rock Star Mickey is Unveiled at the D23 Expo

“It’s great to see how Rock Star Mickey can get kids rockin’ at an early age.” – Constantine Maroulis

On August 19, 2011, representatives from Fisher-Price and Disney Consumer Products, along with former American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis, and Mickey Mouse, were on hand at the D23 Expo to present the new Rock Star Mickey interactive plush toy. The toy, a sequel to the previous year’s Dance Star Mickey, features Mickey performing specialty rock moves, including the “Mickety-Split,” where he performs a split while playing the guitar with his nose. Mickey also performs a version of the classic rock song “You Really Got Me.” It was also announced at the event that the toy would be available at retailers nationwide starting September 6, and would retail for $54.99. Maroulis entertained crowds and performed with Mickey to promote the toy, while representatives showed the toy’s dance moves and answered questions.

August 18, 2011 – Betty Taylor and Wally Boag are Honored in Special Ceremony

“…will forever pay tribute to their legendary roles.”

On August 18, 2011, a special ceremony was held at the Golden Horseshoe to honor the contributions by Betty Taylor and Wally Boag, two entertainers whose names were synonymous with the saloon; both had passed away in June earlier that year. The celebration, known as “True Legends of The Golden Horseshoe: A Tribute to Wally Boag and Betty Taylor,” featured special performances by members of the Golden Horseshoe, as well as tributes by special guests, such as Taylor’s sister, Dorothy Fields, and Boag’s daughter, Heather Dinkins. Other special Disney guests were on hand to pay tribute, including Golden Horseshoe Revue choreographer Miriam Nelson; Disney Legends Rob Dominguez, Jack Lindquist, and Richard Sherman, Mouseketeer Bobby Burgess; actor Steve Martin; and Diane Disney Miller, daughter of Walt Disney (the latter two guests gave tribute via video message). Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis was also on hand to honor the pair in his own way by donating $10,000 to the Orange County High School of the Arts in their memory.

August 13, 2017 – The Great Movie Ride Attraction Closes

“A spectacular journey into the movies.”

On August 13, 2017, the Hollywood Studios attraction The Great Movie Ride officially closed. Open since May 1, 1989, the attraction was a ride-through tour that brought guests to the movies allowing them to venture into the scenes of some of the world’s most beloved films, including Alien, Mary Poppins, and Casablanca. The attraction was sponsored by Turner Classic Movies starting in 2014, featuring host and film historian Robert Osborne as the narrator through the films. The closing of this attraction makes it the final attraction from Hollywood Studios’ opening day to close.

August 6, 2010 – The Third Redesigned Disney Store Opens in Santa Monica

On August 6, 2010, the grand opening of the third redesigned Disney Store was held in Santa Monica, California. Attending the store opening were Jim Fielding, president of Disney Store Worldwide; Molly Adams, VP and General Manager or Marketing & Merchandising; Paul Gainer, VP of Disney Store Operations; and of course, Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Locate just blocks of Santa Monica Pier, the redesigned store features several new elements to make the store another entertaining point of the area.

August 3, 2014 – The Four Seasons Opens in Walt Disney World’s Golden Oak Community

“A Dream Come True”

On August 3, 2014, the Four Seasons resort opened within the Golden Oak residential community, located in Walt Disney World. The 298-acre space was originally sold to Four Seasosn Hotels and Resorts on August 25, 2008; the agreement was for Four Seasons to build a hotel, time share homes called Residence Club, an 18-hole championship golf course, and a series of vacation homes. The resort was designed by Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo, and featured 444-rooms, along with four restaurants: Capa, Ravello, PB&G, and Plancha. Ravello also features a character-dining experience for guests.

August 2, 2010 – The Restaurant Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria Opens in Epcot

“Discover authentic Italian cooking, including hearty pastas, fresh salads and pizzas perfected in wood-burning ovens.”

On August 2, 2010, the restaurant Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria opened in Epcot’s Italy Pavilion in the World Showcase. Showcasing the cuisine of Southern Italy, the restaurant features authentic Neapolitan pizza cooked in three wood-burning ovens named after the three volcanoes in Italy: Mount Etna, Mont Vesuvius, and Stromboli. The pizzas keep their authenticity with ingredients flown in from Italy, and water for the pizza being taken from a source within the United States that matches the alkaline found in Naples. The menu was created by famed restaurateur Nick Valenti, who spent a significant amount of time in Naples perfecting the art of making pizza. Dishes at the restaurant features Italian specialties such as Arancini, Lasagne Napoletana, and Agnello Scottadito. A grand opening ceremony and media event was held for the restaurant on August 5th.

July 17, 2017 – The Copper Creek Villas & Cabins Opens in Walt Disney World

“Consider this your new go-to vacation base camp when pining for serene surroundings located just around the river bend from Magic Kingdom park.”

On July 17, 2017, the Disney Vacation Club Resort Copper Creek Villas & Cabins opened in Walt Disney World’s Wilderness Lodge Resort. With décor inspired by the history of the Pacific Northwest, the resort features several kinds of accommodations, including 26 waterfront cabins. Located on Bay Lake, the resort features two kinds of pools for guests to enjoy: the Copper Creek Springs heated pool, and the Boulder Ridge Cove pool. The resort also features several dining options, including the Artist Point restaurant and the Whispering Canyon Café.

July 15, 2011 – The Disney Channel Reality Series PrankStars Premieres

“Look at the, look at the look on your face!”

On July 15, 2011, the Disney Channel reality series PrankStars premiered. Hosted by Disney Channel star Mitchel Musso, it featured kids meeting their favorite Disney Channel and music stars through humorous situations planned by their friends and family, with Musso directing the actions of the star from a control center. The show’s stars ranged from Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez to pop music act Allstar Weekend. The show only aired four episodes in the United States before it was cancelled due to Musso’s driving under the influence arrest; the last two episodes aired in the United Kingdom and Latin America.

July 12, 2016 – Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Opens in Disney Springs

“Dig into farm-to-form cuisine showcasing Florida’s freshest flavors – all crafted from recipes by this award-winning celebrity chef!”

On July 12, 2016, the restaurant Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ opened in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs area. Created by celebrity chef Art Smith, the restaurant features Southern cooking, Florida style, including such dishes as Church Lady Deviled Eggs, Art’s Famous Fried Chicken, and Fried Chicken & Doughnuts. The restaurant also features a special brunch menu every Sunday from 10am until 2pm.
