July 30, 1955 – The Tomorrowland Boats Attraction Opens in Disneyland

On July 30, 1955, the Tomorrowland Boats attraction opened in Disneyland. The boats were located between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland in the Tomorrowland Lagoon, which would go on to house the Submarine Voyage attraction. The Tomorrowland Boats have since been given the unfortunate distinction of being one of the first attractions to close, as it didn’t even last six months, closing on January 15, 1956. It was replaced by the Phantom Boats attraction.

July 28, 1994 – Ground Breaks on Vero Beach Vacation Club Resort

“Relax on warm sand and play in the sparkling blue waters of Disney’s Vero Beach Resort.”

On July 28, 1994, a special groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Disney Vacation Club’s new Vero Beach location. The first Disney resort built outside of Walt Disney World property, Vero Beach resort is located in the Treasure Coast Region; the design and theme of the resort was meant to represent this coastal line. The groundbreaking ceremony featured appearances by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Chip ‘n’ Dale, along with several Disney enthusiasts. The resort eventually opened on October 1, 1995.

July 27, 2014 – The Yankee Trader Store in Walt Disney World Closes

On July 27, 2014, the Magic Kingdom Park store The Yankee Trader closed its doors. Located in Liberty Square, the store specialized in supplies for the kitchen, including pot holders, Disney character-shaped pasta, and glassware. The store was replaced by Memento Mori, a shop dedicated to the nearby attraction The Haunted Mansion.

July 25, 2013 – The Spa Senses Opens at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort

“A full-service spa and health club inspired by the 19th century wellness retreats of upstate New York.”

On July 25, 2013, the Disney spa Senses opened in Walt Disney World’s Saratoga Springs Resort. This was the second version of the spa to open, as the original Senses opened in the Grand Floridian Resort in late 2012. Guests can treat themselves to a relaxing day with several different spa treatments, including facials, massages, manicures, and special packages.

July 24, 1966 – The Shop Cristal d’Orleans Opens in Disneyland

“Cut a groove through the bayou to come across exceptionally etched pieces of crystal.”

On July 24, 1966, the glassware store Cristal d’Orleans opened in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square. The store sells specialty glassware, including tiaras, figurines, and cups, and is sponsored by the Arribas Brothers, who have their special glass pieces featured in several Disney parks.

July 23, 2016 – The Cocktail Lounge AbracadaBar Opens on Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk

“Once a secret lounge of illusion, there’s magic in every concoction at this sophisticated social club.”

On July 23, 2016, the cocktail lounge AbracadaBar opened in Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk area. The bar is styled to bring guests back to the 1930s, when magicians illuminated the stage. According to legend, the bar was a hot spot in the 30s, where magicians would go after they performed to show off their tricks and out-show each other, but one day the bar simply vanished, only to mysteriously return years later. Guests can peruse the varied cocktail menu, featuring the likes of the Magic Hattan, Collin’s Double, and the Parlor Trick, along with various wines and beers.

July 21, 1992 – The Restaurant China Voyager Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On July 21, 1992, the restaurant China Voyager opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Adventureland area. Displaying a nautical theme, the menu features Chinese cuisine, including noodle bowls, butakakuni rice, and nikuman. The restaurant is relatively inexpensive, with dishes ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 yen.

July 20, 2007 – The Merchandise Store Party Gras Gifts Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On July 20, 2007, the merchandise store Party Gras Gifts opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Adventureland. The store replaced Le Gourmet, and features a New Orleans theme. The merchandise featured includes accessories for phone and for wearing, as well as glass products.

July 19, 2002 – The Specialty Store Once Upon a Toy Opens in Downtown Disney

“Stroll through the ultimate shop for all things play!”

On July 19, 2002, the specialty store Once Upon a Toy opened in Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney Marketplace. The 16,000-square-foot store specializes in Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars toys, ranging from plush to board games. The store also serves as where Duffy the Bear originated.

July 18, 1965 – The Plaza Inn Opens in Disneyland

“Drop ‘inn’ for hearty American fare the whole family will love and a lively Character Breakfast with some favorite Disney friends.”

On July 18, 1965, the restaurant Plaza Inn opened in Disneyland on Main Street, U.S.A. Designed in Victorian style to match the feel of the area’s turn-of-the-century charm, this restaurant features a buffet/family style meal, featuring such meals as Mickey Waffles, pot roast, and penne pasta. This restaurant also features a special “Minnie & Friends” character dining breakfast, where guests can dine alongside Tigger, Chip ‘n’ Dale, and Minnie Mouse.
