May 15, 2016 – Morimoto Asia Street Food Opens in Disney Springs

“Celebrate your senses as our chefs bring a timeless staple of Pan-Asian food culture to life with their unique culinary sensibilities.”

On May 15, 2016, the counter-service restaurant Morimoto Asia Street Food opened in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs area. A spin-off of the popular Morimoto Asia restaurant, this service provides guests with upscale Pan-Asian street foods, including Bao Tacos, octopus fritters, and a selection of sushi rolls. Guests can also purchase specialty drinks, such as the non-alcoholic South Seas Slush.

May 12, 2001 – The Dance Club Motion Opens in Walt Disney World

On May 12, 2001, the dance club Motion opened in the Pleasure Island area of Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney. The club replaced the Wildhorse Saloon, which was a country music-themed club, and featured Top 40 music videos. Motion was closed on September 27, 2008, when most of the Pleasure Island nightclubs were closed due to a “reimagining” of the area.

May 12, 2017 – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has World Premiere at Shanghai Disney Resort

“In the shadow of Disney’s newest theme park that opened last year, hundreds of ‘Pirates’ fans lined up to catch a glimpse of stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Javier Bardem ahead of an afternoon viewing.”

On May 12, 2017, the world premiere of the newest film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was held at the new Shanghai Disney Resort. This was the first time that a Hollywood film had a premiere in mainland China, and Shanghai Disney was an interesting choice due to the park’s inclusion of Disney’s first pirate-themed park. Hundreds of fans of the films were on hand to celebrate the premiere and to see of the stars of the film, particularly Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Javier Bardem.

May 6, 1988 – The Kringla Bakeri og Kafe Opens in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion

“Then ready yourself for conquest with Viking coffee!”

On May 6, 1988, the Kringla Bakeri og Kafe opened in Epcot’s World Showcase’s newest pavilion Norway. The café serves traditional Norwegian snacks, including a kjøttkake entrée (Norwegian meatballs), a sweet pretzel with chocolate, and a park favorite known as School Bread, which is a sweet cardamom bun filled with a vanilla custard and covered with toasted coconut. The café also serves coffee, Scandanavian beer, and wine.

May 5, 2005 – The Fireworks Show Remember…Dreams Come True Begins Run

“Rekindle some of your fondest Disney memories during this stirring revival of a classic fireworks show…”

On May 5, 2005, as part of the Disneyland 50th anniversary celebration, a new fireworks show called Remember…Dreams Come True kicked off its run. It features a narration by Disneyland 50th Anniversary Ambassador Julie Andrews, along with several pieces of classic Disney songs, as well as several sounds and songs from Disneyland. The conclusion of the show also features a song called “Remember When,” performed by country artist LeAnn Rimes. The show originally finished its run in 2014, but was brought back as for select nights and currently still runs in the park.

May 4, 2012 – A Male White Rhino is Born in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

“A rhino birth is a significant event because at one time the species was nearly extinct.”

On May 4, 2012, it was announced that a male white rhino calf was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This was the fourth white rhino born to 13-year-old Kendi, who was the first rhino born in the park. His birth is also significant as being the third generation of the line that started at the park. Disney is part of specialized conservation efforts to help save the declining rhino population, which has grown to over 20,000 worldwide.

April 30, 2017 – The Disney Explorers Lodge Opens in Hong Kong Disneyland

“Take a break from your exciting adventures and join fellow explorers in this respite surrounded by the wonders of nature and diverse cultures.”

On April 30, 2017, the Disney Explorers Lodge resort opened in Hong Kong Disneyland. The resort is designed to represent several cultures and the spirit of exploration, and features 750-rooms that represent four climates from four areas: Asia, Oceania, South America, and Africa. The resort features three restaurants (Dragon Wind, World of Color, and Chart Room Café) that feature cuisines from the five continents.

April 29, 1990 – The Pendleton Woolen Mills Dry Goods Store Closes in Disneyland

On April 29, 1990, the Frontierland shop Pendleton Woolen Mills Dry Goods Store closed in Disneyland. It was one of the longest-running original shops and sponsor participant in the park, having opened on July 18, 1955. The shop was popular amongst guests, particularly for its selection of leather and woolen goods that fit the theme of the area. The store eventually became Bonanza Outfitters, which specializes in Western-themed clothing; the store also continues to carry Pendleton button down shirts.

April 28, 2008 – Abu’s Bazaar Opens in Tokyo DisneySea

成功したご褒美はアブーの宝物!”

On April 28, 2008, the specialty shop Abu’s Bazaar opened in Tokyo DisneySea’s Arabian Coast area. The shop, much like the area around it, is based on elements from the hit animated feature film Aladdin. The store has several arcade games set up, where guests can win Abu’s treasure, such as plush figures.

April 27, 2015 – Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto Opens in Walt Disney World

“You grotto check out this tropical tiki bar that captures the romance of the South Seas through unique food and drinks.”

On April 27, 2015, the lounge Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto opened in the lobby of Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort. Named for the character in the Jungle Cruise attraction, the grotto provides guests a place to unwind and relax with a specialty cocktail and appetizer, which includes the Headhunter Sushi Roll, Hawaiian Poke, and the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum cocktail. The grotto is similar to the Trader Sam’s Enchanted TIki Bar that opened in Disneyland in 2011.
