July 1, 2010 – Disney Announces the Acquisition of Tapulous, Inc.

On July 1, 2010, Disney announced that they had purchased the mobile game company Tapulous, Inc., creator of the popular Tap Tap Revenge. This decision was made so that Disney could move into the platform for mobile games, particularly in the Silicon Valley area; it was announced that the new subsidiary would remain in Palo Alto. This is the first sort of deal of its kind for the Walt Disney Company, and began Disney’s expansion into other mobile games.

June 30, 2017 – The Disneynature Film Ghost of the Mountains is Released to Theaters

“Journey with Disneynature to the mountains of China.”

On June 30, 2017, the eleventh entry under the Disneynature documentary label, Ghost of the Mountains, was released to theaters in a limited engagement. Narrated by Antoine Fuqua and directed by Ben Wallis, the documentary takes viewers to mountains in China (specifically the area of Kham) as the filmmakers look for the elusive snow leopards. The film is notable for being the first to show snow leopard cubs, and is considered the best source for footage of the snow leopard in general. The documentary has since been featured on Netflix, and was a finalist at the Jackson Hole Film Festival in 2017.

June 29, 2018 – The Beverly Sunset Boutique Opens in Hollywood Studios

“Shop from a show-stopping selection of Pixar merchandise and pre-packaged, tasty treats inside this whimsical ‘theater.’”

On June 29, 2018, the Beverly Sunset Boutique merchandise store opened in the Beverly Sunset Theater within Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios park. Replacing the confectionery Sweet Spells, the shop sells Pixar-related merchandise, with its opening coinciding with the opening of Toy Story Land. Guests can also purchase a variety of packaged sweets.

June 23, 2018 – The Lamplight Lounge Opens in Disney California Adventure

“Discover a newly reimagined restaurant celebrating the creativity, inspiration and personalities of the artists that bring Pixar tales to life!”

On June 23, 2018, the Pixar Pier restaurant Lamplight Lounge opened in Disney California Adventure park. Replacing the Cove Bar and Ariel’s Grotto, the lounge is outfitted with promotional art and movie posters from Pixar films. The menu features American gastropub fare ranging from brunch to dinner, with such dishes as New York Avocado Toast and a Salmon PLT.

June 21, 2016 – The Frozen Ever After Attraction Opens in Epcot

“Voyage to Arendelle aboard an ancient Nordic vessel as you take a musical tour of the wintery world of Frozen.”

On June 21, 2016, the attraction Frozen Ever After opened in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion of the World Showcase. Replacing the Maelstrom attraction, the ride has guests boarding a boat and sailing through the story of Frozen and Frozen Fever, complete with appearances from Elsa, Anna, and Marshmellow. The ride also features music from the hit animated feature film.

June 17, 2016 – The Short Film Inner Workings Premieres at the Annecy Film Festival

“Do you follow your head or your heart?”

On June 17, 2016, the short film Inner Workings premiered at the Annecy Film Festival; it would eventually go on to be released alongside the animated feature film Moana. The short film looked at one man’s battle between his head and his heart, with his head wanting him to go to work, while his heart wants him to go to the beach. The short was directed by Leo Matsuda.

June 16, 2016 – The Shanghai Disneyland Band Begins Performing

“Get in the swing as this lively ensemble welcomes you to Mickey Avenue with a high-spirited mix of music and fun.”

On June 16, 2016, the Shanghai Disneyland Band began their performances on Shanghai Disneyland’s Mickey Avenue. This entertainment ensemble features marching band instruments, along with some slide whistles and kazoos to entertain guests of all ages. The show last twenty minutes, and occurs throughout the day.

June 15, 2012 – The Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café Opens in Disney California Adventure

“Swing in for the enchanting sights and sounds of Buena Vista Street – and a cup of Starbucks coffee – at this charming café.”

On June 15, 2012, the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café opened on Disney California Adventure’s Buena Vista Street. Named after the characters from the 1933 Silly Symphony The Three Little Pigs, the café serves Starbucks coffee, sandwiches, and assorted pastries.

June 6, 2014 – The Marketplace Co-Op Opens in Downtown Disney

“Discover unique new shops, products, and retail concepts being tested in this shopper’s paradise in Disney Springs.”

On June 6, 2014, the Marketplace Co-Op area opened in Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs). The area serves as a merchandise hub where several boutiques come together to sell their wares. The current lineup includes Cherry Tree Lane (a Disney-inspired designer line), Twenty Eight & Main (an exclusive collection for men), D-Tech on Demand (accessories for smartphones), Disney Centerpiece (home furnishing collections), and the WonderGround Gallery (a collection and display of Disney-inspired art).

June 5, 2010 – The Main Street Electrical Parade Returns to Walt Disney World

“In thousands of sparkling lights, and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds: the Main Street Electrical Parade!”

On June 5, 2010, popular nighttime parade Main Street Electrical Parade returned to Walt Disney World. Originally appearing in Disneyland starting on June 17, 1972, versions of the parade also made appearances in Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland. Prior to its final Walt Disney World appearance starting on June 5, 2010, the parade operated seasonally at Disneyland. After closing in Walt Disney World on October 9, 2016, the parade went back to Disneyland for a limited engagement, starting January 20, 2017.
