November 24, 2013 – The Animated Series Sheriff Callie’s Wild West Premieres on the Disney Junior App

On November 24, 2013, the first nine episodes of the animated series Sheriff Callie’s Wild West premiered exclusively on the Disney Junior smartphone app, with a television premiere on January 20, 2014. This animated series was the first series in the Disney ABC Television group to premiere on the mobile device platform with multiple episodes. The episodes’ availability also helped place the WATCH Disney Junior app at number one in the iTunes store ranking. The series has since gone on to receive positive reviews. The show was developed by George Evelyn, Holly Huckins, and Denis Morella. It stars Mandy Moore as Sheriff Callie, Lucas Grabeel as Deputy Peck, and Jessica DiCicco as Toby.

November 22, 2012 – The Animated Movie Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess Premieres on Disney Junior

“I’m not ready to be a princess, I don’t have what it takes. I’m too short for gowns, I look bad in crowns, and I’m gonna make a bajillion mistakes.”

On November 22, 2012, the animated movie Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess premiered on Disney Junior after a premiere on Disney Channel on November 18^th. It was created as the lead-in to the animated series Sofia the First, which premiered on January 11, 2013. The movie was directed by Jamie Mitchell, and was written by Craig Gerber. It stars Ariel Winter as Sofia, Darcy Rose Byrnes as Amber, Sara Ramirez as Queen Miranda, Wayne Brady as Clover, Travis Willingham as King Roland, Tim Gunn as Baileywick, Russi Taylor as Fauna, Barbara Dirickson as Flora, Tress MacNeille as Merryweather, and Jennifer Hale as Cinderella.

The movie begins in with Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather introducing the story of Sofia, who lives in a kingdom of Enchancia. She lived a simple life with her mother Miranda, a shoemaker, and one day they are summoned to the castle to make shoes for King Roland the Second. The moment Miranda and Roland’s eyes meet, they fell in love, and are soon married. Sofia and her mother are soon taken to live at the castle, and are joined by several woodland creatures, unbeknownst to Sofia. Roland’s children Amber and James are asked to make Sofia feel welcome, but Amber is not quite warm to the idea of a new stepsister. As the crowd cheers for the new additions to the royal family, the Royal Sorcerer Cedric makes a large storm appear, although Roland informs him that he wanted “flowers,” not “showers.”

After the family heads inside, Sofia bumps into Cedric, and she is excited to meet him, although he gets angry about the “parlor tricks” he’s performing for the king before he makes himself disappear. Sofia then meets Baileywick, the Steward of the Castle, and directs her to the banquet hall. During their meal, Roland lets Sofia know that they will be throwing a ball in her honor as a way of welcoming her into the family. She and Roland will be dancing the first waltz, and Sofia is nervous about this. She is then taken to her own room, and she is shocked at how large it is. Although she is grateful for her new life, she’s still nervous about everything and thinks she’s not ready to be a princess. She goes to talk to Miranda, who reassures her that she’ll be fine. Roland then gives Sofia a present of a special amulet, and she must promise to never take it off. Amber sees Sofia receive the gift and storms off in a huff of jealousy. Sofia is once again reassured that everything will be okay, and heads back to her room. She runs into Cedric again, and he is very interested in her amulet. Cedric heads back to his room and reads up on the amulet, known as the Amulet of Avalor, and vows to take it from Sofia so he can take over the kingdom.

The next morning, Sofia is woken up by the woodland creatures that had followed her, but they are soon driven out of the room by Baileywick. Soon after, Sofia heads off to school with Amber and James in a carriage pulled by flying horses. When they arrive at the school, she meets the headmistresses Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather. They give her the tour of the school, and take her to her first class. She is greeted by her classmates, including Amber, but drops all of her books when she reciprocates. Amber smirks, but soon her jealousy grows when other students rush over to help Sofia. Amber gets James to take a ride on the enchanted swing set, and everyone watches as the swing throws Sofia into the fountain. Sofia tries to take it in stride, but one of the other students gives James a hard time for tricking his sister in such a mean way. As Sofia walks away, she hears a strange sound, and finds a baby bird that has fallen from its nest. She returns the baby to its mother, and her amulet glows. As she heads back to the school, she hears the mother bird say her thanks, but she thinks she imagined it.

After school, Sofia rushes inside without a word to her siblings, although James wants to apologize. Sofia runs into Cedric again, who offers to give her a private tour of his lair, and she accepts. She discovers the book he has about her amulet, and he explains the powers of the amulet: “with each deed performed for better or worse, a power is granted – a blessing, or a curse.” He tries to take the amulet for her, but she remembers her promise to never take off the amulet, and is quickly shown out. The next morning, the animals wake her up again, and she can hear what the animals are saying. The rabbit, named Clover, explains that the animals always help the princesses, but all they want is a little bit of food for their trouble. Sofia prepares the animals a basket of food, and they set up a picnic outside. Soon, she has to go to school, but Clover reminds her to keep her eye on the ball – the royal ball. She is cheered by his pep talk, and heads to school with renewed enthusiasm. After making several mistakes, she soon masters the skills, and makes several new friends.

Sofia arrives home, exhausted, and is cheered up when she sees her friends Jade and Ruby waiting for her in the garden. While attempting to pour tea, James comes over and assists her as his way of apologizing for the prank. He offers to help train her for the ball, and Sofia accepts. Amber is strolling through the garden and overhears Sofia admitting she can’t dance, and gets a wicked idea in her head on how to embarrass Sofia. The next day at dance class, Sophia is given a special pair of shoes to wear by Amber, and when she dances with the teacher, the shoes start acting up, making Sofia jump around the room like crazy. She realizes that Amber has tricked her, and after she is able to get the shoes off, she heads to the carriage, upset. She goes to see Cedric before the ball, asking for a spell to make her a better dancer. He gives her a spell to say when the waltz starts, but he gives her a spell to put everyone to sleep, and will only reverse the spell if Sofia gives him the amulet. Before the ball begins, James confronts Amber, angry at his sister’s actions, and is hurt when he tells her that everyone likes Sofia more than they like her, especially after her horrible actions.

Sofia attends the ball and is greeted by Roland, who takes her to the floor for the first dance. Sofia recites the spell, and is shocked when everyone falls asleep. Cedric, excited that his spell worked, didn’t count on the spell working on him as well, and falls to the floor in a sound slumber. Sofia frantically runs around the castle looking for help, and a tear lands on the amulet. She turns around to find Cinderella there waiting to help her. Cinderella can’t undo the spell, but can help her find her way. Cinderella relates her only regret: not making amends with her step-sisters. After her story, she takes her to see Amber, and convinces Sofia to give Amber a second chance. She takes Amber to the ballroom, and explains what happened. Amber apologizes for her prank which caused Sofia to get a spell, and the two make amends, with Amber calling Sofia her sister for the first time. The two head to Cedric’s lair to find a counter-spell, with some assistance from Clover and the other animals. Amber and Sofia find the counter-spell book, and before they wake everyone, Amber helps teach Sofia how to dance. After reciting the counter-spell, Sofia has her first dance with Roland, which goes off successfully, except that Roland admits that he can’t dance very well. During the dance, the whole family dances together, and all is well.

November 11, 2011 – The Disney Channel Original Movie Geek Charming Premieres

“I can’t believe that popular people like me are forced to share the same air as nerderers like you!”

On November 11, 2011, the Disney Channel Original Movie Geek Charming premiered. It was based on the book of the same name by Robin Palmer, and had over 4 million viewers on its premiere broadcast. It was directed by Jeffrey Hornaday, with story adapted by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy. It starred Sarah Hyland as Dylan Schoenfield, Matt Prokop as Josh Rosen, Sasha Pieterse as Amy Loubalu, Jordan Nichols as Asher, Andrew Airlie as Alan Schoenfield, and Lilli Birdsell as Sandy.

The movie begins with Dylan Schoenfield being crowned the Blossom Queen – or so she thinks. She’s been caught daydreaming about winning, and continues to sign up for the contest. Dylan is one of the most popular people at Woodlands Academy, and aims to win the crown so she can be the most popular person in the school. She has major competition in the form of Nicole Patterson, but Dylan takes the competition in stride. On her way to her seat in the lunch room, unpopular student Josh bumps into her, spilling his tray of tuna noodle casserole all over her shirt. She berates him in front of the entire school, but it turns out the reason he tripped is because she sprayed perfume in his face. Josh finally sits with his friends, and it’s revealed that he has a crush on Amy Loubalu, an indie rocker and Dylan’s ex-best friend. The conversation turns back to an upcoming film festival, and Josh has no idea what to film.

Josh submits his application to the festival to his teacher, but the best he can come up with is a documentary on the evolution of robot voices. His teacher, Mr. Farley, inspires him to pick a human subject out of his element. After school, Dylan heads to the mall with her father, and while he obviously loves her, he is always busy with work. Josh works at the same mall, and he spots his crush, Amy, walking by. As he tries to follow her, he spots Dylan, who accidentally throws her purse into the mall’s fountain. Inspired, he decides to go into the fountain to get her purse, hoping to score a favor from her: to be the subject of his film. However, she doesn’t even thank him for retrieving her purse. She finally agrees to star in his film when she realizes that the movie would cinch her the title of Blossom Queen.

Dylan heads home after her busy day to find the house empty, and she decides to go through some of her mother’s belongings, revealing that her mother died while she was in elementary school. Josh heads to his own home, and explains to his mom, Sandy, his idea for the film festival. The next day, he submits his idea, and Mr. Farley is pleased, although he warns Josh to keep his “preconceived notions at the door.” The film shoot goes to a rocky start, as Dylan is rather high-maintenance, and the lunchroom is agog with the fact that Josh can freely enter the popular kids spot. Dylan is revealed to be a self-centered, stuck-up teenager, and Josh is trying to take Mr. Farley’s advice and not make any judgments. When Dylan’s busy in a changing room at the mall, he asks her friends Hannah and Lola for what they really think of Dylan, and the answers are not pretty.

Dylan argues that people should stay within their social groups to avoid misunderstandings; she doesn’t want Josh thinking that he can ask her out. She also doesn’t reveal any goals after high school, and when playing back the film later, he has no idea how to turn the film into a true documentary. His mom tries to convince him to dig deeper and find the true Dylan Schoenfield, but Josh is more than a little reluctant. While at a beach party, Josh tries to film Dylan, but gets distracted by his crush Amy. Dylan notices and throws a volleyball at Josh to get his attention, and inadvertently reveals that Dylan and Amy used to be friends. Using this as a way to dig deeper, he continues to ask her for information, but doesn’t really get anywhere. Her boyfriend Asher treats Dylan horribly, and it gets worse when her car gets towed for seven unpaid parking tickets. Josh has to give her a ride, which she does not accept graciously. Unfortunately, his car completely breaks down, and they have to walk to a gas station.

Dylan continues to act like a diva, and he loses it, calling her a selfish whiner and firing her from his movie. Worse news for Josh: he doesn’t have enough time to change his film. Mr. Farley convinces him to try again, and Dylan is convinced to try again so she can garner votes for Blossom Queen. Dylan heads to the Film Club field trip to ask Josh for a second chance, and finds herself actually enjoying the film. Dylan surprises the group with an explanation of a complicated science theory, and Josh asks her later why she hides her smarts; she reveals that only geeks get good grades. The two agree to work together again, but with one condition: she doesn’t act like a diva anymore. After he drives her home, she invites him inside to hang out. The two bond over the creation of an “everything-but-the-kitchen-sink-sundae,” and he sees a different side to her. She gives him advice on how to ask Amy out, and he tells her that Asher is an idiot. The two then talk about her mom, who was once Blossom Queen. Dylan wants to be Blossom Queen so she could feel closer to her mom. They bond further still when she gives him a makeover.

As thanks for the makeover, and to save Dylan from being with her father’s new girlfriend, Josh invites her over for dinner

Josh invites Dylan over for dinner, as she doesn’t want to meet his father’s girlfriend. His mother embarrasses him by asking if they’re dating, but Dylan clears it up for Sandy, although she admits that Josh is amazing. While Josh and Dylan play fight in the kitchen, Sandy manages to capture it all on tape. The next day at school, people are amazed by Josh’s new look, with all sorts of people taking notice, and building his self-esteem. Josh’s friends, however, aren’t fans of the look, as they think he has a crush on Dylan and are leaving them behind. Dylan’s friends and boyfriend aren’t happy either, as they still think Josh is nothing more than a geek. Meanwhile, Josh finally gets the nerve to ask Amy out, and Dylan is seen looking rather upset. When Josh is at his job in the mall, Mr. Schoenfield finds him and, thinking that he’s dating Dylan, invites him over for dinner. Dylan arrives home to see Josh’s car, and finds Josh teaching her father about science-fiction films. Although Dylan tries to convince her father that they aren’t dating, but their behavior suggests otherwise.

It’s the day of Josh’s date, and they’re off to Asher’s party, thanks to an invite from Dylan. Asher continues to ignore Dylan, and she grows jealous at how well Josh and Amy are interacting. Amy realizes that Josh isn’t that into her, and lets him go check on her. When he goes to talk to her, she reveals that she ditched Amy in the 6^th grade, because she didn’t want to be in Amy’s shadow. However, when she tries to give Josh advice on how to win Amy over, Asher walks in on them, thinking that they’re dating. Josh takes Amy home, and Amy tells him she believes that he’s not dating Dylan, but that he wants to, and turns down his invite for the school dance. While editing his film, he finally realizes that he does care for Dylan. The next day, Dylan is running late for school, and accidentally drops her contacts down the drain, leaving her with no option but a pair of glasses. Refusing to wear them, she tries to go without, until she gets a note from Asher, saying that he’s breaking up with her. He tells her that she’s becoming a nerd, and refuses to hang out with her. Things get worse when Josh can’t sit with her at lunch, and her seat in the popular kids’ section has been replaced with Nicole Patterson.

Josh is dismayed when his friends all but reject him after he continues to neglect them

Josh’s friend also dump him for spending too much time with Dylan, and he heads home, confused with what to do with his film. Josh decides that it’s okay that his truth has changed, and he has found a way to edit his film to his new vision. After school, Dylan finds her friends dress shopping without her, and they tell her that it’s because she’s always off with Josh and doesn’t have a date for the dance. Soon, the day of the film festival is here, and Josh’s film premieres. Dylan sneaks in to watch, and is uncomfortable with the laughs from the audience at her shallow comments. She is hurt by the film’s direction, and leaves midway. Josh sees her leave and chases after her. She is hurt by what he chose to show, and how he doesn’t understand her at all. However, the film takes a different turn, showing how Dylan is more than a shallow popular girl. The film is met with praise from the entire town, and later, Amy stops by Dylan’s to talk to her. Amy tells her that Josh is worried about her, but Dylan doesn’t believe her, until Amy tells her that Josh won first place. Amy then has Dylan watch the entire film to understand.

The Spring Formal arrives, and Dylan arrives wearing her mother’s old dress. Dylan’s popularity has gone up immensely, and she wins the title of Blossom Queen. Josh arrives just as Dylan is making her speech, and Dylan realizes that she has real friends in the form of Josh and Amy. She admits to the school that she likes Josh, and hurries off the stage to find him. The two share a kiss, giving the movie a happy ending.

September 30, 2011 – The Comedy Series Jessie Premieres on Disney Channel

“My whole world is changing, turning around, they got me going crazy, yeah they’re shaking the ground.”

On September 30, 2011, the teen sitcom Jessie premiered on the Disney Channel. The series became the channel’s most watched premiere on its broadcast night, with a total of 4.6 million viewers. As of the time of this post, the series is still running on Disney Channel, entering its fourth season. The show was created by Pamela Eells O’Connell, and stars Debby Ryan as Jessie, Kevin Chamberlain as Bertram, Peyton List as Emma, Karan Brar as Ravi, Cameron Boyce as Luke, Skai Jackson as Zuri, and Chris Galya as Tony.

The first episode, “New York, New Nanny,” begins with Jessie Prescott riding in an NYC cab, boring the cab driver with her life story about her overbearing Marine father and her life back in Texas. She realizes that she’s lost her wallet and is thrown out of the cab, landing at the front of the Fairfield Hotel, and meets the doorman Tony. A woman runs out of the building screaming, and a little girl asks Jessie to be her new nanny. The girl doesn’t take no for an answer, and drags Jessie inside the building. She is taken to the girl’s house, and introduces her to Bertram, the family butler, whose only requirement for a nanny is that she doesn’t “poop on the floor.” She is soon introduced to the three other kids in the family, whom Bertram calls “The Nanny Killers.” The three kids are fighting, and Jessie breaks up the fight. The parents finally arrive, and Jessie is surprised to find that they are none other than Morgan and Christina Ross, a supermodel turned mogul and a movie director. Jessie speaks one-on-one with Christina, who hires Jessie.

Jessie quickly moves in and gets to know the kids, starting with eldest son Luke, who has a crush on Jessie and does very little to hide it. She turns down Luke’s date, and decides to have everyone eat as a family, but has her hands full: eldest daughter Emma doesn’t like her little brothers; Luke continuously tries to get Jessie alone; youngest sibling Zuri would rather spend time with her imaginary friends; and third-eldest sibling Ravi’s pet lizard Mr. Kipling scares Jessie to death. However, Jessie is successful at getting the family around the table, but the siblings have nothing to say to each other, and leave the table one by one. Jessie tries to make up for the disastrous dinner by making cookies, and finds that the kids have run away because they dislike her. With the help of Tony, she finds that the kids are on the roof, ready to take off in their dad’s helicopter. As they berate her, Jessie fights back with some tactics she learned from her father, and makes them do push-ups. One by one, she tries to connect with the kids starting with playing video games with Ravi and feeding Mr. Kipling. While helping Emma with her science fair project, she finds that the Ross’ aren’t going to be able to attend Emma’s science fair. Jessie decides to fly their helicopter to the movie set to retrieve them. Unfortunately, they decide to fire her instead.

Jessie heads to Emma’s science fair, and while Emma is visibly disappointed that her parents couldn’t make it, Jessie reminds her that while they aren’t there with her in person, they will always be with her. Encouraged, she heads up to do her presentation, and is surprised to find her parents, who came in at the last minute. As Emma talks about gravity, Christina calls Jessie the gravity of the Ross family, keeping her as the nanny, and Jessie is overjoyed that they made it. Emma is announced as the winner of the science fair, and everyone heads off to celebrate at a family dinner.

September 23, 2010 – The Mockumentary Series My Generation Premieres on ABC

“It was the year 2000. Bill Clinton was president, Britney Spears was on top of the charts, and in Austin, Texas, a documentary film crew followed nine students through their senior year at Greenbelt High School.”

On September 23, 2010, the mockumentary series My Generation premiered on ABC. The series followed a group of nine kids graduating in the year 2000, and how their lives were ten years after. The series was cancelled after two episodes due to low ratings, and the final six episodes have since been available online. The series was based on the Swedish series Blomstertid, and was originally known as Generation Y. It was created by Peter Magnusson and Martin Persson, and starred Michael Stahl-David as Steven Foster, Daniella Alonso as Brenda Serrano, Mehcad Brooks as Rolly Marks, Kelli Garner as Dawn Barbuso, Jaime King as Jackie Vachs, Julian Morris as Anders Holt, Keir O’Donnell as Kenneth Finley, Sebastian Sozzi as The Falcon, Anne Son as Caroline Chung, and Elizabeth Keener as the Filmmaker.

The pilot episode begins with a look at the nine students interviewed for the documentary. When asked to describe the future in one word, the answers range from “prosperity” to “discovery” to “victory.” Ten years later, they look at how the kids are doing, especially after so much has changed in the world. Steven Foster, known as “The Overachiever,” lives in Kauai, Hawaii; he didn’t graduate from college, surfs most of the time, and tends bar at a place called “The Last Wave.” He likes his life, although it’s not the success that he’d planned on in high school. Brenda Serrano, known as “The Brain,” lives in DC as a lawyer, working for a congressman from Massachusetts. In high school, she wanted to be a scientist, but went into pre-law after the 2000 election. After her interview, she heads to lunch with Falcon, known as “The Rock Star.” He’s a producer and a DJ, these days. He asks her if she’s still pining over Anders, her high school boyfriend, and although she acts as though she’s not, she’s shocked to find that he’s married.

Anders married Jackie Vachs, “The Beauty Queen.” She dreamed of being an actress, but she was on season 2 of The Bachelor, and refuses to talk more about it. She’s even more touchy when Brenda is brought up, and Anders, “The Rich Kid,” looks uncomfortable being around Jackie. Back in Hawaii, Steven gets a phone call from Caroline Chung, “The Wallflower.” He doesn’t remember who she is, although she reminds him that they slept together on prom night. She then drops the bombshell that she got pregnant from that one night, and they have a nine-year-old son together. The documentary moves on to Kenneth Finley, “The Nerd,” who is now an elementary school teacher. When he was in high school, he wanted to get married and have kids. He dated Dawn Barbuso, “The Punk,” in high school, and although they live together now, she’s actually married to Rolly Marks “The Jock,” and carrying his child, and staying with Ken until Rolly gets back from his tour in Afghanistan. Ken also teaches Caroline’s son Tom, although he doesn’t know that Steven is Tom’s father. Caroline finally admits to Ken who the father is, who was good friends with Ken.

Steven comes back to Greenebelt, but hasn’t talked to Caroline yet. He refuses to talk about his dad, although the audience doesn’t know why. He gets another call from Caroline, but lies and says he isn’t in town yet; as he talks to her, he runs into Jackie, who tells him that Dawn is having a baby shower, and he is surprised to find that she married Rolly. Jackie then tells him she heard about his dad, but Steven swiftly changes the subject. She says that she married Anders, although she and Steven flirt, albeit awkwardly. The documentary turns to Anders, who is still obviously in love with Brenda. His parents didn’t like Brenda, it seems, though he won’t say anything. Back in DC, someone asks Brenda if she wants to be set up on a date, but she refuses initially, although the camera shows that Brenda is also still hung up on Anders; when this is revealed, she changes her mind and decides to go on the date. At Steven’s mom’s house, Falcon arrives to see him. Steven admits to Falcon that Jackie flirted with him. Ken decides to donate his sperm to help women who want to have a baby, although he is very awkward about it. When they ask at the Cyrobank about his family history, he freezes up when he has to explain that his father is dead.

Back at Ken’s house, Dawn prepares for a Skype chat with her husband Rolly, and she tells the camera how she hated high school and its labels, but she loves Rolly to death. Rolly doesn’t like the fact that Dawn lives with Ken, but he allows it because it makes her happy. The love between them is evident, and she worries about him constantly. In Afghanistan, Rolly shows off the sonogram of his baby. They show footage of the friendship between Anders and Rolly, and after graduation, Rolly went to Stanford on a basketball scholarship. The day after 9/11, he joined the Army, feeling like he needed to do something. In the middle of class, Ken gets a call that upsets him. The Cyrobank called to let him know that he’s infertile, and he is devastated. Brenda goes on her date, although it’s not going well, as her date is repulsive, and she walks out. At Dawn’s baby shower, there’s tension between Dawn and Jackie. Caroline comes to the party and greets Dawn; when she runs into Falcon, she asks if he’s talked to Steven. Steven knows about Caroline’s kid, and she’s furious that Steven hasn’t come to see her, and shows a lot more backbone than she had in high school.

Steven is still dragging his feet, and thinks that maybe he should see his dad first, when Caroline runs by him on the street. She is furious that he never called her, and when he scares Tom, Caroline can’t deal with his behavior, and takes off. Back in DC, Brenda gets a call from her father; her mother had a stroke, and she needs to head back to Texas. Ken sits in front of his father’s grave, still deeply depressed, and goes to a bar to drink. At the bar, he runs into Steven, and punches him. It turns out that Steven’s father was arrested in the Enron scandal, and Steven had to drop out of school. Kenneth’s father committed suicide, as the scandal wiped out all of his savings, and Kenneth blames Steven. Later that night, Steven and Jackie meet at a bar, and she tells the camera to back off. When Kenneth gets home, Dawn asks why he missed the shower. He pulls out a present for her, but he soon breaks down as he’s so upset. She thanks him profusely for taking care of her, and calls him Uncle Kenneth, wanting him to be part of her family. At the bar, Steven and Jackie are getting along well, but he interrupts and calls Caroline, as he wants to make it up to her and be a father to their son.

September 22, 2010 – The Disney X D Comedy Series A Pair of Kings Premieres

“You’re the kings; nobody tells you what to do.”

On September 22, 2010, the Disney X D comedy series A Pair of Kings premiered. The series ran for three seasons on Disney X D, with 67 episodes in total. It was created by Dan Cross and David Hoge. The series starred Mitchel Musso as Brady, Doc Shaw as Boomer, Kelsey Chow as Mikayla, Ryan Ochoa as Lanny, Geno Segers as Mason, and Adam Hicks as Boz.

The first episode begins with the villagers of Kinkow celebrating the soon coming return of the twin kings that will lead them to greatness. The two kings are fraternal twin brothers Boomer and Brady, although most people don’t believe they’re twins, as they look absolutely nothing alike. The two are in gym class, and get the distressing news that they have to play dodgeball. The two are not exactly popular at their school, and they get bullied almost every day. After one bullying incident, the two are hanging from their lockers, when the messengers from Kinkow arrive, informing them of their extraordinary heritage. They head home soon after and discuss this together, although Brady finds this whole thing suspect. They never knew their mom and dad were royalty, as their aunt and uncle never told them. However, their aunt and uncle let them go, as they say that their job was preparing them for their destiny.

Boomer and Brady enjoy the hot air balloon ride to the island, although they accidentally end up on the dark side of the island. Their advisor, Mason, tries to protect them against a giant mosquito that is attracted the Boomer’s coconut sunblock. Mason is able to beat the mosquito, and advises the two on how to be great, revealing that he was very close to their father. Soon, the boys arrive at the castle and are greeted by the villagers. As they settle in their castle, a girl walks in, and as they remark crudely about how beautiful she is, Mason informs them that she’s his daughter Mikayla, and is very, very protective of her. The boys also have a cousin named Lanny, who was to be king until they found Boomer and Brady. Lanny is awfully jealous of the two, and he will do anything he can to get the throne. Lanny has a magical fish named Yamakoshi, who will help Lanny take down the twins.

Mikayla quickly takes them on a tour as she has to prepare for their coronation, and shows them the vault, where Brady pulls out a cursed medallion. Mikayla quickly pulls it away, and orders them to read a giant book on the superstitions of Kinkow. Mikayla doesn’t have much faith in the pair, and quickly leaves the two to their reading. Their coronation occurs, and the two are not exactly having a fun time, but the coronation goes off without a hitch. Afterwards, they’re given a jeep to ride around in to greet the people. Unfortuantely, they accidentally reverse the jeep, driving it into a sacred statue and smashing the sacred stone. Because of this, the dormant volcano on the island erupts, creating chaos all over the island.

The people quickly pack and flee the island, and the two quickly pack to leave. Lanny mocks them, but gives them the chance to redeem themselves by saving the island: find the other ruby on the other side of the island. The two agree to go, unaware of the danger of the Tarantula People in the dark side. The two end up completely lost in Tarantula Territory, and are soon captured. Mikayla suspects something is wrong when she goes to search for them and meets Lanny, who is already preparing for his coronation. The two end up in more danger, as the two are stuck in quicksand. While Lanny takes over the kingdom, Mason believes that the two wouldn’t flee. Brady reveals that he took the cursed amulet, which has a power over the Tarantula People. The tribe takes the two to where the sacred ruby is, and while the temple is booby-trapped, Brady doesn’t want to run anymore. The two agree to go in together to retrieve the stone.

The volcano goes silent, and the islanders believe that the kings are dead, with Lanny triumphantly claiming the crown. Meanwhile, the boys head out of the temple, with Brady not realizing that he dropped the cursed amulet. The two head back and give the ruby back, but also agree to give up the throne. Mason tells them that they already have the makings of great kings, and the islanders agree to keep them as their kings. Mikayla warns the two of all the dangerous things on the island, and the two are a little worried once they find the medallion missing, but they don’t give it another thought. Meanwhile, somewhere on the dark side, evil is stirring…

September 14, 2012 – The Pixar Short Film Partysaurus Rex Premieres in Theaters

“Yeah, you’re in the right place baby! Cause when the water’s high, the party’s fly!”

On September 14, 2012, the Pixar short film Partysaurus Rex premiered in theaters as the opening short for Finding Nemo 3D. It was the third short in the Toy Story Toons series, which show the characters from the Toy Story series of films in new adventures after the events of the third film, Toy Story 3. It was written and directed by Mark Walsh, and starred Wallace Shawn as Rex, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Corey Burton as Capn Suds, Tony Cox and Don Fullilove as Chuck E. Duck, Emily Hahn as Bonnie, and Lori Alan as Bonnie’s Mom.

The shot begins at Bonnie’s house, where the toys are trying to break the record for largest bubble, when Rex walks in and bursts it without noticing, much to their annoyance. He continues to clumsily knock everyone over, with the toys calling him a buzzkill and a party pooper. The toys then hear Bonnie’s mother call out for bath time, and Bonnie asks to bring a toy; hearing this, all the toys but Rex scatter, and Rex is taken to the bathtub. Bonnie makes Rex the new villain in her bathtime saga, and after she gets out of the tub, the toys rejoice Rex’s appearance. When they ask him his name, Rex, still embarrassed about being called a “party pooper,” creates a new nickname for himself: Partysaurus Rex.

The excitement soon ends when the water is gone from the tub, as the toys explain that they need water to move, and they can’t turn the water on themselves. Rex realizes that he can turn the water on, and he starts the party once again. Still haunted by the “party pooper” moniker, Rex amps up the party, and the tub party becomes a rave. The water level soon hits the overflow drain, but Rex covers it up, pretending not to be concerned about flooding the house. Unfortunately, his anxieties soon hit him, and when he tries to stop the water, he accidentally pulls off the tap, and loses the drain. He finally pulls the lever on the tap, stopping the water, much to the bath toys’ sadness. Rex doesn’t realize, however, that he’s activated the shower, and the party continues in full force. The water starts to overflow, and the toys excitedly go over the top. Meanwhile, Buzz and the gang have come to check on Rex, when the door bursts open and they are swept away with the water and the ongoing party. The plumber is called soon after, and the toys are drying themselves off, unable to believe Rex’s story about being a “Partysaurus.” One of the lawn toys appears in the window, asking Rex to hook them up like he did with the bath toys. Rex dons his party hat and goes off to start another party.

August 29, 2011 – The Disney Resort Aulani Opens

“Discover a family paradise with a touch of magic at Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii.”

On August 29, 2011, the Disney resort and spa Aulani opened in Hawaii’s Oahu’s Ko Olina Resort and Marina. Part of the Disney Vacation Club, guests are able to experience the splendors of Hawaii mixed with Disney magic. The resort is located near beaches and golf resorts of the shore of Oahu, 17 miles from Honolulu, and near Waikiki. The resort itself honors the history and culture of Hawaii, with Imagineers working alongside with locals to create the feel of the design. The resort features 359 hotel rooms and 481 Vacation Club villas, with a spa for adults and a spa for teens, several restaurants, and several activities to enjoy on the island. The grand opening ceremony took place on September 23, 2011.

August 24, 2012 – Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play House Attraction Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

“Everyone’s efforts together are sure to result in a truly ‘toony’ room!”

On August 24, 2012, the Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play attraction opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Toontown area. The attraction uses a special computer program called the Toontone Splat Master paint applicator, which gives guests the change to redecorate Goofy’s house in any manner they wish, ranging from a beach theme to a jungle theme. Guests grab the handle of the paint applicator and either push a button, turn a handle, or pull a string to make the effect work.

August 21, 2011 – Disney’s Phineas and Ferb: The Best LIVE Tour Ever! Live Show Begins

“Phineas and Ferb are gonna do it all!”

On August 21, 2011, the live touring production Disney’s Phineas and Ferb: The Best LIVE Tour Ever! began its run in Lakeland, Florida. It was a ninety-minute production featuring the characters from the hit Disney Channel Original Series, with actors in costumes playing the parts. The show mostly featured songs from the series, including “Everything’s Better with Perry” and “Summer Belongs to You,” as well as Broadway standards, such as “I Feel Pretty” from West Side Story and “One” from A Chorus Line; an original song called “We’re Gonna Put On a Show!” was written just for the production. The production ended after two touring seasons, with its last performance taking place in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 17, 2013.
