April 5, 2012 – The Drama Series Scandal Premieres on ABC

Scandal_1

“We’re not a law firm. We’re lawyers, but this is not a law firm…we solve problems.”

On April 5, 2012, the drama series Scandal premiered on ABC. The series premiered as a mid-season replacement, with the first season only running for seven episodes. Nevertheless, the series has garnered high ratings by critics and viewers alike, particularly for actress Kerry Washington’s portrayal of lead Olivia Pope. The series was created by Shonda Rhimes, and stars Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope, Henry Ian Cusick as Stephen Finch, Columbus Short as Harrison Wright, Darby Stanchfield as Abby Whelan, Katie Lowes as Quinn Perkins, Guillermo Diaz as Huck, Jeff Perry as Cyrus Beene, and Tony Goldwyn as President Grant.

The first episode, “Sweet Baby,” begins with lawyer Quinn Perkins trying to cancel a blind date with a man named Harrison Wright, but he informs her that it’s not a blind date, it’s a job interview. She’s not interested, until she hears that he works for Olivia Pope, and he tells her that Olivia has already given her the job. Meanwhile, Olivia is heading to an important meeting with Stephen Finch, who is rather nervous. Olivia drops off $3 million to Russian mobsters from an ambassador, and Olivia sweet-talks her way out of a situation when she is $3 million dollars short, but still able to take what they paid for. Wright brings Perkins into the office, and she meets the team, and what Olivia had to buy: the ambassador’s baby. As everyone gets ready to head home, someone heads into the office, bloodied, claiming that the police think he killed his girlfriend.

Olivia watches as they start the process of questioning St. James

Olivia watches as they start the process of questioning Sullivan St. James

The client in question, Lieutenant Colonel Sullivan St. James, is a war hero; he is the first living soldier awarded the Medal of Honor since Vietnam. Pope then explains the process of how they work to Perkins, beginning with interviewing him intensely, claiming that they are both the judge and the jury, and decide who he is. Pope has the deciding vote, and then sets the rules and warns them: do not lie, or all bets are off. Pope then begins her work, showing up at Assistant U.S. Attorney David Rosen’s house in the middle of the night, asking for 48-hours before they charge St. James, but he only gives her 24. Her team sets to work collecting evidence in the little time they have, although most think he’s guilty. In the middle of it, Pope is called to the White House by Cyrus Rutherford Beene, the White House Chief of Staff, because the President needs a favor: an aide is claiming that she is sleeping with the President, and Pope needs to shut her down. She then heads to Camp David to talk to the President, but everyone thinks that the President wants to give Pope her old job at the White House.

The team goes deeper in their investigation, discovering that St. James’ girlfriend was supposed to go to a French Consulate dinner, but cancelled at the last minute. The girlfriend used to be a party girl, and gave it up when she met St. James, but is still holding something back: the girlfriend is sleeping with someone else. Pope talks to the President, and they talk about intern Amanda Tanner, and the President denies ever sleeping with Tanner. Pope agrees to take the case, but turns down going back to the White House. Later, Perkins and Pope meet with Tanner in the park, and warn her about spreading lies, with the added bonus of convincing her to hand in her resignation and leave Washington DC. Later, Perkins is found crying in the bathroom, as she is shocked at how cold Pope is. As Pope continues to work her case, the St. James case is falling apart, as he knew that his girlfriend was sleeping with someone else, but he still claims that he did not kill her.

Time is up when the cops arrive at Pope’s office, but the team gets a lucky break with a security camera outside a bar, and are able to verify his alibi, at a price: St. James is meeting his boyfriend. St. James, however, would rather go to jail than admit that he’s gay. He allows himself to be arrested, much to the sadness of the team. As Pope heads to the police station, tech guy Huck tells Perkins that he got a message from an Amanda Tanner, who was admitted to the hospital for a suicide attempt. Pope still doesn’t believe Tanner’s story, until Perkins drops a supposed “pet name” from the President, and Pope heads straight for the White House. Pope confronts the President, who finally admits the truth: he had an affair because Pope had left him. Pope left him because he is married, revealing that the two also had an affair. While the President kisses Pope, Beene walks in, who never knew about Pope’s real relationship with the President. Pope quickly leaves and heads to a restaurant to meet with Finch, who is nervous about proposing to his girlfriend, as he doesn’t think of himself as a good guy. Pope convinces him to propose, and she watches before she hides and thinks about her own problems.

Pope heads back to the jail to talk to St. James, and convinces him to give her the name of his lover so she can secure his alibi. In the end, St. James gives a speech after getting cleared, and announces that he is gay. The case being over, the team clears up the office, although Perkins isn’t convinced that they are the “good guys.” As Pope works, Beene comes to her office, but Pope refuses to talk to the President again, especially since Tanner has become her client.

March 13, 2013 – The Disney Channel Original Series Special The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex Premieres

WRAVA_1

“People should appreciate you for who you are, not for what they think you should be.”

On March 13, 2013, the special for the Disney Channel Original Series The Wizards of Waverly Place entitled The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex premiered. The cast of the show returned for the special, except for David Henrie. It received 5.9 million viewers on its premiere. The special was directed by Victor Gonzalez, and written by Vince Cheung, Ben Montanio, and Dan Berendsen. It starred Selena Gomez as Alex, Jake T. Austin as Max, Jennifer Stone as Harper, Gregg Sulkin as Mason, Beau Mirchoff as Dominic, Maria Canals Barrera as Theresa, and David DeLuise as Jerry.

The special starts in a crystal cavern high in the mountains, where Alex is standing in front of the Crystals of Justice, accused of trying to destroy the world. Alex tries to defend herself (poorly), and she is found guilty of treason. She implores the Crystals to review the events that led up to the charge, and they send her back through the time vortex to when the events began. Alex is taken back to a night at the drive-in with her best friend Harper, although Alex’s dad Jerry finds that the two have made their own makeshift drive-in in the living room. Jerry lectures Alex on her immaturity as the Family Wizard. Alex’s boyfriend Mason and her mom Theresa show up with supplies for a surprise party for Alex’s older brother Justin. Alex is jealous that no one threw her a party, and Jerry lectures her again about using magic for selfish reasons. Unfortunately, Justin won’t make it to the party, as he’s too busy at Wiz Tech to make it. Jerry reveals there was another reason for the party: the family is heading to Italy for a family reunion. Alex decides to make it easier for everyone and creates a portal to Italy from their living room, and once again gets scolded by Jerry for using selfish magic.

Max hurriedly enters the door to Italy, looking for a girl

Before Alex can remove the portal, her younger brother Max steps through to get a girl’s phone number, leaving Jerry and Theresa with no choice but to chase after him. They manage to retrieve him and head back to the New York apartment, but Alex doesn’t know how to undo the spell. When Jerry compares her to Justin, Alex gets upset, as she thinks Jerry wanted Justin to be the family wizard, and zaps herself away to the back of a Jumbotron to sulk. She is found by Justin’s friend Dominic, who asks her about joining the Wizard Council. He gives her the confidence that she could be a powerful wizard and gives her a friendship bracelet. Mason arrives and scares Dominic away, surprising her with a picnic. When Alex changes the food he’s made, he gets upset with her, as he also believes she’s just using her magic selfishly.

When Alex gets home, she still doesn’t know how to get rid of the door, and Max keeps traveling through to find a girl. Alex relates to Harper how she hates how everyone wants her to change, and Harper tells her that she should be loved for who she are, not who she should be. Alex decides to change her personality for the better with magic. Unfortunately, all of Alex’s bad parts end up in a nearby mirror. While Alex thinks she’s trapped, the mirror version seems to have a plan to get back at her. Jerry and Theresa, having gone to search for Max again in Italy, meet up with Jerry’s family, and find that Max has fallen for his cousin. Back in New York, Harper is taking advantage of Alex’s good nature, but the mood sours when they hear a mirror break. They realize that Evil Alex has gone through the door to Italy, and when they find her parents, Alex tries to convince them that she’s changed, but they don’t believe her.

Evil Alex stumbles upon Max trying to kiss his cousin Francesca, and traps him in the friendship bracelet from Dominic. The rest of the family is taken on a tour of the family vineyard, where Jerry and Theresa are asked to go stomp grapes, and the two begin to fight, throwing grapes at each other. While they fight, they suddenly disappear; Alex believes her evil self must have done something terrible. When Jerry and Theresa find themselves in Evil Alex’s bracelet, and are surprised to find that Evil Alex has teamed up with Dominic. Mason accidentally discovers Evil Alex and Dominic together, and walks away sadly before Dominic takes Evil Alex away to the Tower of Pisa. At the Tower, Dominic reveals his plan to rid the world of mortals. He needs Alex’s help to set his plan in motion, as she is the most powerful Family Wizard of their generation. Alex and Harper rush to the tower to stop them, but Harper is captured in the bracelet. Dominic reveals that he is the nephew of Alex’s old nemesis Gorog, the leader of the Dark Angels, and Alex refuses to cooperate, except when Evil Alex goes to trap Dominic in the bracelet.

Alex manages to find Mason, but he is still angry with her after he thought he saw her with Dominic. Unfortunately, Evil Alex arrives, and Mason has to determine which is the real Alex. He picks the Evil Alex, and is brought back to the Tower of Pisa, where Dominic is waiting to trap Mason in the bracelet. Back in the apartment, Alex stares at some photos of her family, Mason, and Harper, and remembers Harper’s words about being appreciated for who she is. Realizing that everyone will need to accept Alex the way she is, she decides to save the world again, and heads to Pisa. Alex and Evil Alex get into an argument over who will go first with their bargain, but Alex has to cast the spell first, with all the mortals being wiped away from the Earth and trapped in beads. Alex is then given the bracelet back, but before she can undo the spell and save her family, she is brought before Crystals of Justice. Dominic is then brought before the board to give his testimony, and he blames her for the entire thing. Alex is found guilty again, and sentenced to death. Unfortunately, what Dominic failed to notice is that one of the charms on the charm bracelet is broken: Mason’s.

Freed from the bracelet, Mason manages to find Alex and break her out of her cell

Freed from the bracelet, Mason manages to find Alex and break her out of her cell

Mason manages to find Alex’s cell and breaks her out, where they rush off back to Pisa. Alex confronts Dominic and Evil Alex, and when Evil Alex heads back to New York, Alex is there to fight her. Evil Alex manages to run away, and Alex finds her behind the Jumbotron. The two continue to duke it out, and Alex manages to save her family, although it’s seen that she didn’t actually destroy her evil self. Alex heads back to Pisa, and finds herself trapped and has the bracelet taken away by Dominic, but she finally is able to destroy her evil self. Dominic throws the bracelet over the side of the tower, but Alex manages to save her family. Mason throws Dominic over the side of the tower, ending the plan. Evil Alex revives, and plans on taking over the world herself. When Alex decides to cast a spell to get rid of her powers, Evil Alex disappears within her, and her wand also vanishes, which brings back all the mortals. Back before the Crystals of Justice again, they laud her for her bravery, but refuse to give her back her powers because they believe she is not mature enough. Alex is angry that no one seems to accept her just as she is, except for Harper. The council is moved by her appreciation for Harper, and decides to give Alex her powers back. The family enjoys the rest of the family reunion, but Harper and Alex decide to remain in Italy for a while after Jerry and Theresa see the mess that the fight between Alexes left behind.

March 4, 2012 – The Dramedy Series GCB Premieres on ABC

GCB_4

“Do you think Grandma will like us more now that Dad’s dead?”

On March 4, 2012, the dramedy series GCB premiered on ABC. It was based on the novel Good Christian Bitches by Kim Gatlin. The series received mixed reviews from critics, and after ten episodes, the series was cancelled on May 6, 2012. It was created by Robert Harling, and starred Leslie Bibb as Amanda Vaughn, Kristin Chenoweth as Carlene Cockburn, Jennifer Aspen as Sharon Peacham, Marisol Nichols as Heather Cruz, Miriam Shor as Cricket Caruth-Reilly, David James Elliott as Ripp Cockburn, Mark Deklin as Blake Reilly, Brad Beyer as Zack Peacham, and Annie Potts as Gigi Stopper.

The pilot episode begins with Amanda Vaughn’s husband Bill grabbing cash from a safe in his office and leaving his home with his mistress. As they drive, she distracts him and he drives over the side of a cliff, killing them. Three months later, FBI agents are raiding the Vaughn residence as Bill was found running a Ponzi scheme. As the news outlets camp outside Amanda’s mansion, Amanda decides that she and her two kids need to move away from California, although she refuses to move to Texas to be near her mother Gigi. However, when faced with an empty house, she reluctantly calls home and makes plans to return to Dallas. Upon arriving, the Vaughns are given a “warm” welcome from Gigi’s pet Dobermans. Amanda is also unaware of how quickly the gossip of Amanda’s return has spread. Amanda’s daughter Laura flips through one of Amanda’s old yearbooks, and Amanda and Gigi recount the horrible things Amanda did to her fellow students, as she was the Queen Bee in high school. Later that night, Amanda tries to figure out what to do with her life, and decides to try and get a job as an interior designer.

The next morning, however, Gigi demands that Amanda go to church, which Amanda vehemently does not want to do. Amanda then sees the people she knew (moreover, tormented) in high school, and is surprised to see how they’ve changed. She is also surprised at how much people hate her, as she thinks she’s changed. The next day, Amanda has several interviews lined up thanks to an old high school friend, although she isn’t pleased about the influence her mother is having on her kids. As she gets them ready for school, the whole family finds a new car in the driveway, addressed to Amanda from a secret admirer. Carlene Cockburn, who has been spying on Amanda from across the street and was one of those tortured by her, reports back to her friend Sharon Peacham, revealing that the car came from Sharon’s husband’s dealership, as evidenced by the vanity plate tag. Carlene and her band of girls decide to do a search on who gave Amanda a car. Zack Peacham calls Amanda, asking her over to talk about who gave her the car, and Amanda agrees. When she gets there, he reveals that he doesn’t know, but he considers her the love of his life. Carlene, who has continued to spy on Amanda, sees the conversation through Zack’s office blinds, and thinks that the two are having an affair, unaware of Amanda’s attempts to fight Zack off.

Amanda continues to butt heads with Gigi about how to treat the kids, but this is interrupted when more gifts arrive for Amanda, including racks of clothes. Amanda refuses to accept it, and refuses to go to the Longhorn Ball with her mother. She also has frustrations when dealing with realtor Heather Cruz, who has been showing Amanda run-down houses on purpose in retaliation for past abuse. Amanda confronts her, and Heather admits the truth and accepts Amanda’s apology. Heather then tries to warn her about something, but is interrupted by Carlene and the girls with a welcome basket. Heather tries to tell Carlene that Amanda has really changed, but Carlene refuses to accept this and threatens to take business away from Heather. Carlene and others start digging around for information, but Amanda feels overwhelmed. After the girls leave, Carlene tasks Sharon to find out who has been sending Amanda gifts. Unfortunately, Sharon botches the mission. Amanda is still struggling to find work, unaware that Cricket Caruth-Reilly, another of Carlene’s cronies, has been sabotaging all of her efforts. Out of options, Amanda decides to ask for work at a Hooters-style bar called Booby-licious. That night, Amanda has dinner with Cricket’s husband Blake, who was a good friend of hers in high school, and accidentally discovers that Blake is gay and having an affair with his ranch foreman.

Amanda’s new job is soon revealed to everyone, unbeknownst to her, and Carlene lets her know. Amanda refuses to be intimidated by Carlene and her friends, and the two have a confrontation. When Carlene reveals details from Bill’s death in front of Amanda’s kids, Amanda decides that it’s time to leave. At home, Gigi finally reveals that she is the one that has been leaving gifts for Amanda. Later, Amanda realizes that Carlene, who touts herself as a righteous Christian woman, owns the bar where Amanda works, exposing her hypocrisy. At church that Sunday, Amanda not only outs her new job to the entire community, but that Carlene owns the company. Amanda then realizes that she can hold her head high in this community.

February 28, 2014 – The Tinker Bell Animated Film The Pirate Fairy Premieres at the El Capitan Theater

PF_1

“Let me be absolutely clear, Zarina: Dust Keepers are forbidden to tamper with pixie dust.”

On February 28, 2014, the sixth film in the Tinker Bell franchise, The Pirate Fairy, premiered with a special limited-time engagement at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California. It was later released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 1 of the same year. The film was written by Jeffrey M. Howard and Kate Kondell, and directed by Peggy Holmes. It starred Mae Whitman as Tinker Bell, Christina Hendricks as Zarina, Tom Hiddleston as James Hook, Lucy Liu as Silvermist, Raven-Symone as Iridessa, Megan Hilty as Rosetta, Pamela Adlon as Vidia, and Angela Bartys as Fawn.

It’s a busy day in Pixie Hollow, and a fairy named Zarina is walking to her job, making the other fairies think she is out of pixie dust. The other fairies are curious as to how she keeps running low, as she is a dust keeper Fairy. She heads to work wrapping the packages of dust for the other fairies, but the other fairies are confused at Zarina’s questions about how pixie dust works. Zarina is placed on Blue Dust duty, much to the worry of the other fairies, as Zarina has gotten into a bit of trouble with dust before. Once again, Fairy Gary is vexed at how inquisitive Zarina is, comparing her to Tinker Bell. Zarina is curious about creating other colors of dust, but Fairy Gary tells her they can’t tamper with pixie dust, as it’s too powerful. What he doesn’t know, however, is that Zarina is conducting her own pixie duet experiments at her home. She accidentally takes home a speck of blue dust, and uses that to create her experiments again, and finally finds success. She rushes over to Tinker Bell’s house to tell her the news, and takes her back to her lab to show her what she’s found. Tinker Bell is shocked when Zarina is able to create purple pixie dust. Tinker Bell is surprised, but warns her that she seems to be going too fast. Things get worse when Zarina spills her pink pixie dust, creating a giant beanstalk that sweeps through Pixie Hollow. Gary finds the pink pixie dust on the stalk, and knows that Zarina has been experimenting. He then tells her that she’s no longer a dust keeper fairy, as it’s just too dangerous. Dismayed, Zarina packs up her belongings and leaves Pixie Hollow.

A year later at the Four Seasons Festival, Tinker Bell and her friends are preparing for their act at the show. The winter fairies begin with a special ice skating routine, and Tinker Bell is excited that Perriwinkle is there. While everyone enjoys the show, a mysterious fairy hides in the shadows, before using pink pixie dust to grow flowers around the edge of the arena. The fairies watch in amazement as the flowers are set off like fireworks, and Rosetta warns her friends to hide, as the flowers Zarina created are poppies, which put all the other fairies to sleep. While the fairies are sleeping, Zarina sneaks into the depot and steals the blue dust. Tinker Bell and her friends are worried about the lack of pixie dust, and they decide to set off after Zarina. As they follow the trail, they are shocked to find that Zarina has ended up with a band of pirates. Thinking she might have been kidnapped, they head over to rescue her; unfortunately, they find that Zarina is actually the Pirate Captain. The fairies fight the pirates and retrieve the blue dust from Zarina, but Zarina follows them to get it back. She offers them mercy if they give back the dust, but after they refuse, she throws a multicolored stream of pixie dust at the group, sending them flying to the ground and leaving her the blue dust.

The next morning, the fairies wake up to find their clothes multicolored, affected by the dust. They soon realize that they’ve all had their powers switched thanks to the dust, and have a very difficult time adjusting. Silvermist, now a fast flying fairy is able to find the ship, and Vidia, now a tinker fairy, creates a ship for the group to sail on with Silvermist pulling the way. The fairies are able to land inside a cannon on the ship, but quickly escape being shot out. They watch as the pirate crew toasts to the captain, thanks to the cabin boy, who can understand her. One year prior, Zarina saved the pirates, becoming their captain and promising that she will make their ship fly. They arrive at their hideout at Skull Rock, and the fairies are terrified, especially when they see that Zarina recreated the Pixie Hollow tree, which will allow her to create pixie dust. As the fairies try to enter Zarina’s cabin when the cabin boy opens the door, only Tink, Silvermist, and Vidia manage to make it inside. The cabin boy helps Zarina in her pixie dust experiments, while the three fairies work on retrieving the dust. Unfortunately, they are unable to retrieve it once again, but do discover her plans of taking it to the tree to create more dust.

The fairies head over to the tree, and formulate a plan to get the dust when Zarina leaves. Unfortunately, their plans are interrupted when Iridessa’s new garden fairy powers cause a tree branch to grow right toward Zarina, bringing the fairies with it. She has the fairies captured, and when Tinker Bell tells her to go back home, Zarina refuses to go. The cabin boy tells them that they treasure Zarina’s powers, and the fairies are taken away. Zarina releases the blue dust, and it successfully creates pixie dust. As the cabin boy asks Zarina questions about flying, she decides to teach him, making him able to fly using the pixie dust. Unfortunately, after being given all the secrets, cabin boy James reveals his true colors, and locks Zarina away in a lantern, having no more use for her. It is also revealed that James is the Captain, not the cabin boy. Meanwhile, the fairies are arguing amongst themselves, but are rescued when a baby crocodile that is attached to Rosetta appears and sets them free. Vidia comes up with some camouflage for the group, as they dress up like a pirate and sneak off the ship. They manage to steal back the blue dust, but are caught by James, who threatens to kill Zarina unless they return the dust. The dust is then used to make the ship fly, and the pirates celebrate. As James boards the ship, he throws Zarina into the ocean, but the fairies manage to save her just in time. She tearfully apologizes, but warns them that the pirates are on the way to the Second Star, and the blue dust will be gone forever, and the entire team sets off.

The pirates sail off through the clouds, and Zarina orders the fairies to turn the ship around while she gets the blue dust back. A battle ensues between the pirates and the fairies, with Zarina taking on James personally. The fairies manage to use their new gifts to take on the pirates and pull them away from the Second Star. However, James manages to stop them and get the ship back on course, trapping Zarina by a sword and the rest in a bag. Zarina frees herself and manages to take back the dust and turn the ship around once again, sending the pirates falling into the ocean. James manages to save himself using pixie dust, and he and Zarina fight over the blue dust. As it looks like James has won, Zarina manages to get one speck of blue dust, which reacts badly to the dust covering James, sending him flying out of control. The fairies retrieve the dust, and Zarina gives it to Tinker Bell to take back to Pixie Hollow. Tinker Bell tells her that they came to take her home too, and Zarina agrees to head back, using the flying ship. Using Zarina’s pixie dust collections, she manages to wake the fairies, and everyone is amazed to see the ship in the sky. Gary is relieved to see Zarina again, and accepts her skill of pixie dust alchemy. Tinker Bell and the other fairies convince Gary to let Zarina perform her alchemy, which also returns the fairies back to their original skills to put on the best finale ever.

February 17, 2012 – The Disney Channel Original Movie Radio Rebel Premieres

RadioRebel_1

“This is Radio Rebel, live from the underground. You don’t know who I am, but I know who you are, because I’m one of you.”

On February 17, 2012, the Disney Channel Original Movie Radio Rebel premiered. It was based on the book Shrinking Violet by Danielle Joseph, and garnered over 4 million viewers on its premiere night. It was written by Erik Patterson and Jessica Scott, and directed by Peter Howitt. The film stars Debby Ryan as Tara, Sarena Parmar as Audrey, Adam DiMarco as Gavin, Merritt Patterson as Stacy, and Mercedes de la Zerda as DJ Cami Q.

At Lincoln Bay High School, the new episode of Radio Rebel is the talk of the students, with her take on rejecting the status quo. Shy student Tara wishes she could be more like the radio personality, but can’t even speak normally to her best friend Audrey. Audrey, however, is more than willing to take Radio Rebel’s words to heart, and tries to break the status quo by talking up to Queen Bee Stacy, although Stacy thinks that Radio Rebel is just a nuisance. Her point is proven by Principal Moreno, who automatically listens to the popular kids and not to Audrey and Tara when they are accused of something they didn’t do. Meanwhile, Stacy is flirting with Gavin, a member of the band The G’s, who will be playing at prom. Tara has a crush on Gavin, and when he shows up in her class, she runs out of the room to hide, but Audrey convinces her to come back to class. When picked by the teacher to write something on the board, the super shy Tara is unable to do anything and completely embarrasses herself.

At home that day, Tara’s stepfather, who owns a radio station, is checking out the Radio Rebel podcast. He believes he should have Radio Rebel on his station, and he goes to ask Tara about it, when prompted by her mom. He tries to bond with her, but the situation is highly uncomfortable, especially when he finds out that she is Radio Rebel. He tells her that he wants her on his radio station before she has a chance to really process it. At school, Tara is placed in a group with Stacy and Gavin, and unsure of what to even say or do, although the two end up bonding over a shared love of bands. Later, as she talks to Audrey, she finds it hard to keep her friendship and her secret of being Radio Rebel. Later, Gavin stops by to talk to her about the project, but Tara is so shy she runs away. That evening, she heads to her stepfather’s radio station, and he wants to keep her identity secret. Unfortunately, her shyness keeps getting the best of her, and she’s not sure if she can handle it. DJ Cami Q, a worker at the station, calms her down and offers to be her best friend at the station. Finally, Tara sets up for her first show, and is able to tap into her Radio Rebel persona. She asks that students who hear and understand that they’re all in this together wear red the next day.

The next day at school, the majority of the student body is wearing red, although Audrey is still angry that Tara ditched her, although seemed to find the time to listen to the show. Tara tries to explain to Audrey that she’s Radio Rebel, but Audrey doesn’t’ believe her. Tara then finally proves it to Audrey, and makes her promise never to tell. Tara continues to work on her school project, which is a scene from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, which mirrors Tara’s real unspoken crush on Gavin. Stacy, however, is continuously threatened by Gavin’s attention to Tara, but Gavin interrupts Stacy so Tara can be heard. On the way out from practice, Tara spots Gavin’s band’s demo CD, and decides to play it on her show that night while making a statement about how the Principal keeps confiscating their items; she also asks the students of the school to dance at 8AM the next morning. Principal Moreno, unhappy with Radio Rebel’s antics, announces that Radio Rebel needs to turn herself in immediately.

At lunch, Gavin pulls Tara aside, and makes it sound as though he knows Tara is Radio Rebel, but in the end, only knows that Tara gave Radio Rebel his band’s demo CD. Meanwhile, the search for the identity of Radio Rebel is at an all-time high around Seattle, and the marketing is all over, as her show has hit an all-time high in the charts. Tara then has an idea to play a show at lunch, having Cami DJ-ing at school. Principal Moreno appears to break up the show, but Cami not only is parked on city property, but also has a permit. Hearing that Principal Moreno wants to expel Radio Rebel, she decides to go on a mission to expose who she is, as she loathes the popular show. Meanwhile, Gavin wants his band to take risks and challenge themselves creatively, but his bandmates are not convinced, especially since best friend Gabe is all about the fans and popularity rather than creating meaningful music. At school, Audrey gives Tara the news that Radio Rebel is nominated for Prom Queen, and poor Tara panics, as she is supposed to remain anonymous. When she heads to her show, Tara’s stepfather warns her about Principal Moreno’s threat to expel Radio Rebel once her identity is revealed. Worried for her safety, he wants her to stop the show, but when she gives an impassioned plea, he lets her continue, believing in her.

Her mother congratulates her for her Prom Queen nomination, and tells her that she doesn’t care what Principal Moreno says, as Tara inspires people. Finally, Principal Moreno plays dirty: unless Radio Rebel gives herself up, prom is cancelled. The students, led by Stacy, start a riot in front of the station, demanding that Radio Rebel give herself up. Tara gives her show that day, and people start screaming at her, as they say she crushed their dreams. However, Tara decides to do something different: the radio station is going to host a MORP, a prom spelled backwards, as they’ll be turning things around. Unfortunately for Tara, Stacy is starting to be suspicious that Tara is Radio Rebel, and threatens Tara: unless Tara shows up her party, Stacy will expose her. Tara manages to show up at Stacy’s party, and patches into her show to trick Stacy. Tara finally stands up to Stacy, much to the surprise of Audrey, but Stacy still wants to trick Tara into revealing her identity. Tara finally gets a chance to talk with Gavin, and the two connect, although their conversation is broken up by Gabe, who doesn’t think Gavin should be talking with Tara.

Stacy’s henchman Kim sneaks into the radio station to get proof of Radio Rebel’s identity, and hears Cami and Tara’s mom discussing Tara and her show. The next day, during their class project presentations, Stacy locks Tara in the janitor’s closet. Gavin looks around for her, and gets in an argument with Gabe, which ends with Gavin quitting the band. Stacy plans on hijacking the scene with Gavin; when the janitor unlocks the door to get his supplies, Tara rushes to the stage for her scene, but arrives too late, seeing Stacy and Gavin together, and seeing Stacy kiss Gavin. Stacy threatens Tara: Tara better ensure that Stacy is MORP Queen, or she will give up Tara’s identity. Tara gives her show that night about standing up for yourself, and Audrey messages Gavin, telling him the truth about the assignment. The next day at school, Gavin confronts Stacy, and tells her that they are no longer going to MORP together.

At the MORP, everyone from Lincoln Bay High is having a great time, and Cami arrives on stage to announce who the MORP Queen is. Stacy is called to the stage, as is Radio Rebel, but Tara doesn’t move. Radio Rebel is announced as MORP Queen anyway, but Tara doesn’t come to the stage; however, she finally makes her way up, explaining why she has chosen to reveal herself. Principal Moreno is also in attendance, and declares that Tara is expelled. However, Audrey and Gavin cry out that they’re Radio Rebel, with the whole crowd following their example. Knowing that Moreno can’t expel everyone, Moreno gives up. Tara decides to give the crown to Stacy instead. Gavin then performs on stage, dedicating the song to Tara, who he has liked for a while. As he performs, Gabe and his friends join him on stage, realizing that they can make meaningful music as a group. As Tara and Gavin dance together later, he reveals that he’s known she’s Radio Rebel, but never said anything as she wanted to keep it a secret, and he respected that.

“It’s truly a pleasure to make off with your treasure!”

On February 14, 2011, the Disney Junior show Jake and the Never Land Pirates premiered. Based on the story Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, as well as the Disney film version of the story, the series involves three children who form the Never Land Pirates, tasked by Peter Pan to protect Never Land in his absence from Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. The series has received many positive reviews from critics, and the character of Jake has become the breakout character, leading to appearances in the Disney parks among other aspects. The series was created by Bobs Gannaway and is directed by Howy Parkins. It stars Colin Ford, Cameron Boyce, and Sean Ryan Fox as Jake, Madison Pettis and Megan Richie as Izzy, Jonathan Morgan Heit and Jadon Sand as Cubby, David Arquette as Skully, Corey Burton as Hook, and Jeff Bennett as Mr. Smee.

The first segment, “Hide the Hideout,” begins with Jake, Izzy, and Cubby building a sandcastle on the beach, but before long Skully the parrot warns the group that Hook’s ship, the Jolly Roger, is on its way to their shores. Hook has a plan to find where Jake’s hideout is, and will travel the entire island to claim Jake’s hideout for himself. Cubby wants to hide, and Jake declares they need to hide the hideout from Hook. The group readies themselves with their tools: Jake with his sword, Cubby with his map, and Izzy with her pixie dust. The group then runs to a special tiki statue that contains a lever to open the door to the hideout. Inside, the three work hard to seal their hideout away from Captain Hook. Jake is certain that their hideout is sufficiently hidden.

Hook arrives at the island and searches for the hideout, but is unable to find anything, although he accidentally keeps opening the door to the hideout without noticing. Unfortunately, one of the hatch doors is still open, which could reveal the hideout. Jake decides that they need to distract Hook and close the hatch. Izzy comes up with an idea to distract hook with monkey noises while Cubby crawls up to the hatch. At the top of the hill, Cubby uses a water cannon to push Hook and Smee from the hill and into the ocean. As they try again, Hook falls down a hollow tree and goes through a slide through the hideout, though his hat obstructs his view. Eventually, Hook is able to find a door in the side of a hill, and Cubby decides to stop Hook by pretending to be a fly with the use of Izzy’s pixie dust. Hook is once again sent through the inner workings of the hideout and out into the ocean. In the end, Hook catches a cold from falling in the water, and Smee takes him back to the ship to recover. The group celebrates with a song.

The second segment, “The Old Shell Game,” starts with the group playing a game on the beach, when Izzy finds a beautiful sea shell. Hook, however, also spies the shell and decides to take it for his own collection. Hook manages to steal it from Izzy using a plunger, but Jake vows to steal it back from Hook. The group boards their ship and heads off after Hook, and works on a plan to get it back. They decide to first ask nicely, but Hook tells them that he will never give it back. Smee then notices that the shell is missing, and both groups find that it’s floating on a log in the ocean. As it travels through a group of rocks, both ships have to avoid the rock formations, but Jake’s ship Bucky sets up the raft for the group. Between Hook’s rowboat and Jake’s raft, it’s a race for the shell. Jake and the group manage to beat Hook to the shell, just barely, only to find the seashell has moved to a high cliff. Skully manages to claim the seashell from Hook, but Hook is able to nab it in the end, only to have it pinch him. Izzy finally manages to get her shell from Hook after using some pixie dust to fly, and although she’s happy to have her shell back, she finds that there’s a hermit crab living in the shell. They take the crab back to Pirate Island, and Izzy allows the crab to keep his shell. The episode ends with a musical performance by the Never Land Pirate Band.
