April 26, 2005 – The Album Disney Channel Hits: Take 2 is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On April 26, 2005, the compilation album Disney Channel Hits: Take 2 was released through Walt Disney Records. The album compiled songs from popular Disney Channel shows and Disney Channel Original Movies, including Stuck in the Suburbs, The Cheetah Girls, and Halloweentown High. Artists featured on the album include Hayden Panettiere, Jesse McCartney, and The Cheetah Girls.

April 21, 2004 – Apple and Disney Announce Deal for Buena Vista Music Group Catalog

“Now iTunes users can add these timeless Disney songs to their music libraries and enjoy them wherever they go on their iPods.”

On April 21, 2004, Apple announced that they had teamed up with Disney’s Buena Vista Music Group, with Apple getting exclusive rights to the Walt Disney Records catalog, ranging from the animated feature films to featured artists in the Hollywood Records label. The catalog was added to its own genre page within the iTunes music store, labeled as “Disney.” Disney chose to work with Apple, as Apple was the leading global online music store, and provided Buena Vista Music Group another avenue to make Disney’s music accessible to consumers.

April 19, 2005 – The First Disney Films are Released on PSP

On April 19, 2005, two films from the Disney catalog were made available on the new Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) platform. The two films were Walt Disney Pictures’ Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and Miramax’s Kill Bill Vol 1. The PSP includes a special Universal Media Disc drive that can play movies and games. Three other titles were announced to be released on the platform: National Treasure, Reign of Fire, and Hero.

April 17, 2009 – Fantasia Market Opens in Disney’s Contemporary Resort

On April 17, 2009, the sundries shop Fantasia Market opened in Disney’s Contemporary Resort, located in Walt Disney World. A complimentary shop to the resort’s Fantasia Shop, it provides an assortment of snacks and treats, along with postcards, keychains, other small gifts, and anything else one would need to enjoy their stay at the resort.

April 10, 2005 – Princess Storybook Dining is Held All Day at Restaurant Akershus

“Join Disney Princesses for Storybook Dining inside a medieval castle with soaring archways and cathedral ceilings.”

On April 10, 2005, the formerly breakfast-only character dining experience Princess Storybook started being held at all meals at the Restaurant Akershus in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion. Guests can meet several of their favorite princesses, including Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Aurora, and Ariel, while they savor Norwegian-inspired dishes. The popularity of this breakfast-only dining experience necessitated opening it up for more meals to allow more guests the ability to dine with a princess.

April 7, 2006 – The Shop Serka Zong Bazaar Opens in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park

“Descend from Mount Everest and admire Asian artifacts while acquiring Himalayan, Yeti and Disney character merchandise.”

On April 7, 2006, the merchandise stop Serka Zong Bazaar opened in Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. Located at the exit of the popular Expedition Everest attraction, it features several Yeti-themed gifts, along with Asian themed goods, and combination pieces featuring the Yeti interacting with Disney characters.

April 6, 2007 – The Attraction Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros Opens in Epcot

“Take in the sights of Mexico and the antics of the 3 feathered amigos on this gentle boat ride through the Mexico Pavilion.”

On April 6, 2007, the dark ride attraction Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros opened in the Mexico Pavilion of Walt Disney World’s Epcot park. This attraction replaced the El Río del Tiempo attraction. Featuring Donald Duck, José Carioca, and Panchito from the feature films Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros, this ride takes guests through the sights of Mexico as Panchito and José search for their missing friend, Donald.

March 26, 2009 – The Friar’s Nook Opens in Walt Disney World

The old English exterior of The Friar's Nook restaurant is reminiscent of Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest

“Tuck into tasty fare like loaded buffalo chicken tots, hot dogs and fried Twinkies…”

On March 26, 2009, the quick-service restaurant The Friar’s Nook opened in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom park. Replacing the Village Fry Shoppe, the restaurant featured several kinds of loaded tator tots, along with assorted iced drinks. The name of the restaurant is derived from Friar Tuck, from the animated feature film Robin Hood.

March 22, ­­2008 – The Interactive Attraction Stitch Live! Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Cowabunga! Chat to, and sing along with, the blue dude himself in the most magical of alien encounters.”

On March 22, 2008, the interactive attraction Stitch Live! opened in Disneyland Paris’ Walt Disney Studios Park. Similar to the attraction Turtle Talk with Crush, guests can interact with the Lilo and Stitch character Stitch, asking him questions and see him wreak havoc during a satellite feed. The Disneyland Paris version was a variation on the Stitch Encounter attraction that opened in Hong Kong Disneyland on July 13, 2006.

March 19, 2009 – Tren-D Opens in Walt Disney World

“Transform into a Disney fashionista!”

On March 19, 2009, the clothing store Tren-D opened in Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney marketplace. The shop specializes in clothing and accessories with a Disney flair for women, including jewelry by Alex & Ani, Harveys for Disney Couture purses, and clothes by Her Universe. The store originally replaced the Summer Sands store, and was added to the Disney Springs expansion.
