March 10, 1948 – Bambi Wins Special Golden Globe Award
On March 10, 1948, the 5th Golden Globe Awards were held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Walt Disney was awarded with the Special Achievement Award for the animated feature Bambi; he was specifically awarded for “Furthering the Influence of the Screen” for the Hindustani version of the animated feature. This is the only time this specific special award has ever been awarded.
March 9, 1994 – Previews Begin for Beauty and the Beast at the Palace Theatre

On March 9, 1994, the first preview of the new Disney musical Beauty and the Beast took place at the Palace Theatre, moving from its previous location of Houston, Texas. This was Disney’s first foray into the world of Broadway, and cost between 12 and 20 million to produce. The show would run in previews until its official opening date at the Palace Theatre on April 18.
March 8, 2009 – The Inaugural Disney Princess Half Marathon Takes Place
“…the Inaugural 2009 Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend will bring all women/princesses together to participate in a magical event designed to prove just how much princesses kick butt.”
On March 8, 2009, the inaugural Disney Princess Half Marathon took place in Walt Disney World’s Epcot Park. The race itself is part of a weekend session, with a kids race, the Princess 5K, and the Enchanted 10K. The half marathon event had over 7,500 participants, with winner Liza Galvan winning with the time of 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 18 seconds.
March 7, 1927 – The Alice Comedy Alice the Collegiate is Released to Theaters
On March 7, 1927, the Alice Comedy Alice the Collegiate premiered in theaters. It was the 45th Alice Comedy created, and the 29th to star second Alice actress Margie Gay. It has since been classified as a lost film.
March 6, 2012 – The Disney Fantasy Arrives at Port Canaveral
“Welcome home, Disney Fantasy!”
On March 6, 2012, the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line Fleet, the Disney Fantasy, pulled into its home port of Port Canaveral to prepare for its maiden voyage to the Caribbean at the end of the month. The ship sailed almost 5,000 miles from Bremerhaven, Germany, and was greeted with fireworks and a parade of guests.
March 5, 1936 – Disney Wins Academy Award with Three Orphan Kittens
On March 5, 1936, the 8th Annual Academy Awards were held at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Two Disney shorts, Three Orphan Kittens and Who Killed Cock Robin, were nominated for Best Animated Short Film, with Three Orphan Kittens taking home the award. The short film also won against Harman-Ising and MGM’s The Calico Dragon. This was Disney’s fourth win in this category, and fourth consecutive award since the award’s founding in 1932.
March 4, 1943 – Der Fuehrer’s Face Wins Academy Award
“We heil! Heil! Right in der Fuehrer’s face!”
On March 4, 1943, the 15th Academy Awards were held at the Coconut Grove in Los Angeles, California. The Disney propaganda short film Der Fuehrer’s Face won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, beating out the likes of All Out for V, Blitz Wolf, Juke Box Jamboree, Pigs in a Polka, and Tulips Shall Grow. Most of the shorts in this category, including Der Fuehrer’s Face, ridiculed the brainwashing tactics of Nazism and were very anti-German, save for Pigs in a Polka, which parodied Disney’s Three Little Pigs and Fantasia. The song for Der Fuehrer’s Face, written by studio composer Oliver Wallace, also proved to be very popular after it was recorded by Spike Jones and His City Slickers.
March 3, 2013 – The Broadway Musical Mary Poppins Plays its Final Performance

On March 3, 2013, the Broadway musical Mary Poppins played its final performance at the New Amsterdam Theatre, after 2,619 performances over six years. The final performance featured Steffanie Leigh as Mary Poppins, Nicolas Dromard as Bert, Karl Kenzler as George Banks, and Megan Osterhaus as Winifred Banks.
March 2, 2007 – Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven Wins at the NAACP Image Awards

On March 2, 2007, the 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. The Disney Channel Series That’s So Raven won two awards: Outstanding Children’s Program, and Outstanding Performance in a Youth/Children’s Program – Series or Special for lead actress Raven-Symoné . This was the series first win as Outstanding Children’s Program, and Raven- Symoné’s fourth win in her category. The series would go on to win the same awards the following year in the show’s final season.
March 1, 1995 – The Lion King Wins Four Awards at the Grammy Awards

On March 1, 1995, the 37th Annual Grammy Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. The Lion King was the big winner of the night, winning four awards: The Lion King – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack won Best Musical Album for Children, The Lion King Read-Along won Best Spoken Word Album for Children, Elton John won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” and “Circle of Life” won Best Instrumental Arrangement with Accompanying Vocals.
