March 5, 1936 – Disney Wins Academy Award with Three Orphan Kittens
On March 5, 1936, the 8th Annual Academy Awards were held at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Two Disney shorts, Three Orphan Kittens and Who Killed Cock Robin, were nominated for Best Animated Short Film, with Three Orphan Kittens taking home the award. The short film also won against Harman-Ising and MGM’s The Calico Dragon. This was Disney’s fourth win in this category, and fourth consecutive award since the award’s founding in 1932.
