February 13, 2010 – The Animated Series Kick Buttowski – Suburban Daredevil Premieres on Disney X D

KICK BUTTOWSKI - SUBURBAN DAREDEVIL - "If Books Could Kill/There will be Nachos" - Gunther accidently returns Kick's new book signed by his idol Billy Stumps to the library. When the librarian refuses to return it, Kick challenges her no-return policy and vows to get it back by any extreme means necessary. Meanwhile, Brad throws the party of the year while his parents are out of town and does everything in his power to keep Kick out, but Kick is determined to make it into the party and score some of Brad's famous nachos. On February 13, 2010, the animated series Kick Buttowski – Suburban Daredevil premiered on Disney X D. The show was the channel’s fourth original series and first original animated series. The series is centered around kid Clarence “Kick” Buttowski and his aspiration to be the world’s best daredevil with the help of his best friend Gunther, and no help from his older brother Brad Buttowski. The series lasted for two seasons before its cancellation. The series was created by Sandro Corsaro, and starred Charlie Schlatter as Kick Buttowski, Matt L. Jones as Gunther, and Danny Cooksey as Brad Buttowski.

January 23, 2004 – The Animated Series Dave the Barbarian Premieres on Disney Channel

“They aren’t the greatest heroes, but they’re the only ones we’ve got.”

On January 23, 2004, the animated series Dave the Barbarian premiered on the Disney Channel. The series was about siblings Dave, Candy, and Fang, who are left to protect the kingdom of Udrogoth while their parents are away fighting evil; the siblings, however, leave much to be desired. The series ran for one season with 21 episodes, with its last episode airing on January 22, 2005. It was created by Doug Langdale, and starred Danny Cooksey as Dave, Erica Luttrell as Candy, Tress MacNeille as Fang, Kevin Michael Richardson as Uncle Oswidge, Jeff Bennett as the Narrator, Estelle Harris as Lula the Magic Sword, Frank Welker as Faffy, and Paul Rugg as The Dark Lord Chuckles and the Silly Piggy.

January 13, 2007 – Johnny and the Sprites Premieres on Disney Channel

“I was just Johnny ‘til I walked through that door, but I’m not just Johnny anymore!”

On January 13, 2007, the live-action show Johnny and the Sprites premiered on Disney Channel. The show, created for preschoolers, features songwriter Johnny T, who discovers a magical world of sprites in the backyard of his great-uncle’s home. The show had originally been shown as five-minute shorts between commercial breaks on Disney Channel, but its overwhelming popularity helped give the show a full-season go ahead. The show was created by and stars John Tartaglia, who is best known for starring in the Broadway musical Avenue Q; the show also features other prominent Broadway composers and actors, including Gary Adler, Bobby Lopez, and Sutton Foster. The show also stars Heather Asch as Root, Leslie Carrara-Rudolph as Ginger, Tim Lagasse as Basil, Carmen Osbahr as Lily, and Natalie Venetia Belcon as Gwen.

January 4, 1956 – The First Part of “When Knighthood Was in Flower” Premieres on Television

On January 4, 1956, the first part of the two-part television episode “When Knighthood Was in Flower” premiered on the Disney anthology series Disneyland. This two-part episode was the premiere of the live-action feature film The Sword and the Rose, which had been released to theaters on July 23, 1953, edited for a television audience and broadcasted in black and white. The title for the television airing is taken from the book on which the film was originally based, written by Edwin Caskoden (pen name for American author Charles Major). The second episode would premiere on January 11, 1956.

December 29, 1954 – The Disney Anthology Episode “Beaver Valley/Cameras in Africa” Premieres on ABC

On December 29, 1954, the Disneyland episode “Beaver Valley/Cameras in Africa” premiered in ABC. Part of the Disney anthology series, this episode showed an edited version Disney’s True-Life Adventure featurette Beaver Valley along with some behind the scenes footage of the filming for The African Lion. The footage for the latter segment included a look with Alfred and Elma Milotte, who shot many of the True-Life Adventures for the company, as they film many of Africa’s wildlife. The African Lion would go on to premiere in theaters on September 14, 1955. This episode would eventually be rerun under the title “Cameras in Africa/Beaver Valley.”

December 24, 2001 – Navidad Mágica Disney Premieres on Univision

On December 24, 2001, the Spanish-language special Navidad Mágica Disney premiered on Univision. The hour-long special featured popular entertainers Bobby Pulido, Daniela Aedo, and Myra, performing from the four parks that make up Walt Disney World. Subsequent versions of this broadcast have been shown on Disney Channel in Spanish speaking countries.

December 11, 1982 – The CBS Special Winnie the Pooh and Friends Premieres

On December 11, 1982, the special Winnie the Pooh and Friends premiered on CBS in the Walt Disney programming block, a part of the Walt Disney Anthology series. This episode featured a short feature from Winnie the Pooh, along with a couple of other short films featuring Donald Duck and Chip ‘n’ Dale. The special ran for one hour.

December 3, 2010 – Disney Announces Ben Sherwood as New President of ABC News

On December 3, 2010, the Disney/ABC Television Group released an announcement that journalist and author Ben Sherwood would take over as the president of ABC News. Sherwood, a former executive producer of Good Morning America and best-selling author of The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, began working with ABC News in 1989 as an investigative associate producer and producer for PrimeTime Live, leaving in 1997 to join NBC’s Nightly News with Tom Brokaw as a broadcast producer. He returned to ABC in 2004 to serve as the executive producer of Good Morning America, leading the programs to two of its most successful seasons in the show’s history.

November 29, 2005 – Kim Possible Renewed for Fourth Season

“Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me.”

On November 29, 2005, Disney announced that the popular animated Disney Channel Original Series Kim Possible would be renewed for a fourth season. At the time, Disney Channel tended to cancel series after 65 episodes, but a strong fandom base and its critical acclaim caused Disney to reconsider its decision; several shows since then have not adhered to the 65 episode rule. The fourth series premiered on February 10, 2007, and ran for 22 episodes.
