August 24, 1942 – Saludos Amigos Has Premiere in Rio de Janeiro

“Saludos amigos, a fond greeting to you!”

On August 24, 1942, the sixth animated feature film, and the first package film by the Walt Disney Studios, Saludos Amigos, premiered in Rio de Janeiro. The film was an output of a goodwill ambassador tour Walt and his animators took of various Latin American countries. The countries featured in Saludos Amigos are Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Brazil, and includes a new main character in José  Carioca, a Brazilian parrot. The premiere featured a Portuguese version of the film, with the name of the film changed to Alo Amigos. The film was very popular in Latin America, and opened in the United States six months later.

August 17, 2010 – The Toy Story Playland Area Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Thanks to the creative minds of Pixar Studios and our Disney Imagineers, Guests of all ages can now feel what it’s like to be shrunk to the size of a toy and to become literally part of the Toy Story universe in Andy’s backyard.”

On August 17, 2010, the Toy Story Playland area opened in the Walt Disney Studios Park of Disneyland Paris. Based on the Toy Story franchise, the area contains three main attractions: Toy Story Parachute Drop, Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin, and RC Racer. These attractions give guests the impression that they have shrunk down to the size of a toy and are on adventures with Buzz and Woody. A similar area opened in Hong Kong Disneyland and is called Toy Story Land.

August 13, 1945 – The Educational Film Tuberculosis is Delivered

On August 13, 1945, the educational film Tuberculosis was delivered to the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs. The Disney Studios had a series of “good neighbor” films during World War II that stressed the importance of cleanliness and other issues that affected areas of South America; this film was one of the first in a series addressing health concerns and the steps that need to be taken to cure someone of the disease. Though an English version was produced, the film was created entirely in Spanish.

August 10, 2010 – High School Musical: China Premieres

“For these six friends, anything is possible when you follow your dreams.”

On August 10, 2010, the Chinese version of the hit Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical, entitled High School Musical: China, was released. Set in an international college in Shanghai, the film follows six students as they compete for a cash prize in an inter-school singing competition. The film was a joint production between Disney, Shanghai Media Group, and Huayi Bros. It starred Zhang Junning, Liu Yanchen, Ma Zihan, Gu Xuan, and Yuan Chengjie.

July 21, 1992 – The Restaurant China Voyager Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

海賊船でも人気だった!?秘伝のレシピ”

On July 21, 1992, the restaurant China Voyager opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Adventureland area. Displaying a nautical theme, the menu features Chinese cuisine, including noodle bowls, butakakuni rice, and nikuman. The restaurant is relatively inexpensive, with dishes ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 yen.

July 20, 2007 – The Merchandise Store Party Gras Gifts Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On July 20, 2007, the merchandise store Party Gras Gifts opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Adventureland. The store replaced Le Gourmet, and features a New Orleans theme. The merchandise featured includes accessories for phone and for wearing, as well as glass products.

July 14

July 14, 2000 – The Specialty Shop Pooh Corner Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

プーさんのあたたかい笑顔がいっぱい!”

On July 14, 2000, the specialty merchandise store Pooh Corner opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Fantasyland area. Not to be confused with the similarly named stores in Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland, the Tokyo Disneyland store sells umbrellas and ponchos, along with items for babies, stationary, Winnie the Pooh themed house goods, and snacks.

July 13

July 13, 2006 – The Interactive Attraction UFO Zone Opens in Hong Kong Disneyland

On July 13, 2006, the interactive aquatic attraction opened in Hong Kong Disneyland’s Tomorrowland area. Designed as an alien crash site, guests could shoot water out of giant ray guns to cool themselves off during warmer weather. The area was closed on April 5, 2016, to make way for the Star Wars show Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple.

July 4, 1994 – The Attraction Les Mystères du Nautilus Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Continue your quest through Discoveryland and navigate your crew to Jules Verne’s Nautilus for a tour with a tentacular surprise.”

On July 4, 1994, the walk-through attraction Les Mystères du Nautilus opened in Disneyland Paris. Based on the live-action feature film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, this Discoveryland attraction allows guests to board Captain Nemo’s submarine, the Nautilus, and learn the secrets of what lies below the surface of the water.

June 6, 2002 – The Restaurant Café des Cascadeurs Opens in Walt Disney Studios Paris

“Café des Cascadeurs: where Hollywood’s bravest fill up on courage.”

On June 6, 2002, the quick service restaurant Café des Cascadeurs opened in Walt Disney Studios Paris. The restaurant is themed like a 1950s diner, featuring a beef, chicken, or veggie burger, along with Ben and Jerry’s ice cream for dessert.
