November 22, 2016 – The Restaurant Camp Woodchuck Kitchen Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On November 22, 2016, the quick service restaurant Camp Woodchuck Kitchen opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Westernland area. The name is based on the Junior Woodchuck group of which Donald Duck’s nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie were members, and is themed like an American summer camp; the restaurant is also located where guests are able to watch the canoes on the Rivers of America. The restaurant’s menu features waffle sandwiches, smoked turkey legs, and hot ginger lemonade.

November 18, 2016 – The Restaurant PizzeRizzo Opens in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

“Stop on by for pizza, a meatball sub or antipasto salad at this friendly neighborhood joint run by Rizzo, the wise-cracking Muppet.”

On November 18, 2016, the quick-service restaurant PizzeRizzo opened in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios park. Taking the place of the Pizza Planet Arcade, the restaurant is designed like a New York City pizzeria with a Muppet theme; the proprietor of the restaurant is Muppet character Rizzo the Rat. The menu includes various kinds of single-serve pizzas, a meatball sub, and an antipasto salad.

November 14, 2000 – The Disney Club Membership Program Launches

“Get special savings and exclusive offers when you join The Disney Club.”

On November 14, 2000, the Disney Club membership program officially launched. This club gave guests discounts on theme park tickets, merchandise, guided tours, and food and drink. This membership club replaced the long-running Magic Kingdom Club, which had been in operation since 1958. This incarnation of the club only lasted until December 31, 2003, when it was replaced by the Disney Visa Card.

November 9

November 9, 2001 – The Holiday Nighttime Show LuminAria Begins in Disney California Adventure

“Come on in and be a star in our holiday show.”

On November 9, 2001, the holiday-themed nighttime show LuminAria kicked off its run in Disney California Adventure. This was the first holiday celebration for the park. Guests could contribute to the show by drawing images of what the holiday means to them and providing them to a special reception area; these images were then broadcast on screens that were sent out on the water on giant gift boxes. The show also featured low level pyrotechnics accompanied by a variety of holiday music, such as “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” This was the only season for LuminAria, as it was never brought back to the park.

November 5, 2007 – The Partners Federal Credit Union is Officially Formed

“Imagine what we can do together.”

On November 5, 2007, the merger of the Vista Federal Credit Union and the Partners Federal Credit Union to create the new Partners Federal Credit Union for Disneyland and Walt Disney World employees.  The previous two credit unions had a long history of operation, with the original Partners Federal Credit Union beginning operation on March 18, 1968, and the Vista Federal Credit Union beginning on April 26, 1960. Created as “cast members serving cast members,” the credit union offers several banking and financing services.

November 4, 2002 – The ABC Soap Opera Bistro Closes in Disney California Adventure

“Cast your favorite entrée to appear with a bistro salad.”

On November 4, 2002, the restaurant ABC Soap Opera Bistro, located in Disney California Adventure’s Hollywood Pictures Backlot, closed. Open for only almost two years, the table-service restaurant was themed after ABC’s collection of soap operas, including General Hospital and All My Children. Guests could not only dine in themed areas of the restaurant, but also buy themed merchandise, including costumes worn by the cast members of the represented soap operas. The restaurant struggled to stay afloat; after it closed, the former restaurant became home for the live-action show “Playhouse Disney – Live on Stage.”

November 2

November 2, 1992 – The Disneyland Attraction Mission to Mars Closes

“Welcome to Mission Control, space travelers.”

On November 2, 1992, after almost twenty years of operation, Disneyland’s Tomorrowland attraction Mission to Mars closed. The attraction was a revamped version of the original Flight to the Moon; a revision had been required since the United States landed on the moon in 1969. Clips from the 1957 Disney anthology episode “Mars and Beyond” were also used in the attraction, giving guests an idea of what they could expect once man could reach Mars. The attraction was not replaced for a lengthy period of time, but simply shuttered; in 1998, part of the building was used as part of Redd Rocket’s Pizza Port restaurant.

October 29, 2002 – Disneyland Celebrates the Angels Winning the World Series

“The event was a home run for Angels fans of all ages.”

On October 29, 2002, Disneyland celebrated the Anaheim Angels’ first World Series championship win with a special parade running through the park. The parade featured the team; Jackie Autry, the widow of the team’s founder Gene Autry; Angels manager Mike Scioscia; and, of course, the World Series trophy. The parade traveled between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, and was accompanied by a special dance party and a fireworks show.

October 27

October 27, 1979 – Walt Disney World Holds Halloween Hysteria Event

On October 27, 1979, Walt Disney World held one of its first Halloween-related events, known as Halloween Hysteria. It was a one-night ticketed event held in the Magic Kingdom, with tickets costing about $10 at the gate (about $37, adjusted for inflation in 2018), and running from park closing to 1:30 am. Musical guests at this event included Dr. Hook, Michael Johnson, and an up and coming band known as The Police. Another Halloween event wouldn’t be held at Magic Kingdom until the beginning of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in 1995.

October 26

October 26, 1971 – The Electrical Water Pageant Begins in Walt Disney World

“Great sea creatures and twinkling flags cross the lagoon to electronic tunes in this playful nighttime water parade.”

On October 26, 1971, the Electrical Water Pageant began its run on Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon in Walt Disney World. The precursor to the Main Street Electrical Parade (which opened in 1972), this parade featured a variety of floating structures against the illuminated background of the Contemporary Resort, with the lights blinking in time to synthesizer music. The floats were usually in the shape of aquatic figures, such as whales and dolphins. As of 2018, the pageant is still in operation at Walt Disney World.
