August 4, 2008 – The Teaser Trailer for The Princess and the Frog is Released

On August 4, 2008, the teaser trailer for Disney’s 49th animated feature film, The Princess and the Frog, was released. It was a return to 2D animation for the studio and, as of 2016, was the last 2D animated feature film released by the Walt Disney Studios. The teaser featured the music of Randy Newman, with the vocals of Dr. John, as well as the voice acting of Anika Noni Rose as Tiana and Jim Cummings as Ray. The film was announced to be released in 2009.

August 3, 2000 – A Sing-Along Version of Mary Poppins Premieres at the El Capitan Theatre

“It’s almost impossible to watch Mary Poppins without singing along so we thought we’d create a special version of the film that give fans a chance to really get involved.” – Richard Cook, then Chairman of the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group

On August 3, 2000, guests attended a special sing-along screening of the classic Disney live-action film Mary Poppins. The digitally restored print premiere also featured appearances from cast and crew of the original film, including the Sherman Brothers. The special sing-along was limited in showings, as it only had 12 appearances in total between August 3 and September 1. Prizes were also given to those guests that showed up dressed as characters from the film. The sing-along has since been repeated at the El Capitan in limited engagements.

August 2, 2005 – The Compilation Album Radio Disney: Move It is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On August 2, 2005, the Radio Disney compilation album Radio Disney: Move It was released through Walt Disney Records. The album features music designed to make listeners move, and features a variety of dance numbers, ranging from “I Got You” by James Brown, to “Byou” by Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan, to “Macarena” by Los Del Rio.

July 29, 2005 –Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh Kicks Off United States Tour

On July 29, 2005, the live-action show Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh kicked off the United States tour with its first show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The show featured a storyteller and her “Hunny Helpers” telling stories of the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood, It originally appeared in New Zealand on June 16, 2004.

July 26, 2005 – The Soundtrack for Sky High is Released Through Hollywood Records

On July 26, 2005, the soundtrack for the live-action film Sky High was released through Hollywood Records. The album is a compilation of covers of popular songs from the 1980s, including “I Melt With You” performed by Bowling for Soup, “Just What I needed” performed by Caleigh Peters, and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” performed by Christian Burns. “I Melt With You” was the only single released to promote the album. The album has received mixed reviews.

July 25, 2008 – Bolt Across America Fundraiser Kicks Off in New York City

On July 25, 2008, the cross-country fundraising event Bolt Across America kicked off in New York City. The event, promoting Disney’s newest animated feature film Bolt, was held in conjunction with the ASPCA to raise funds and awareness for shelter animals across the United States. Disney Channel star Miley Cyrus, who plays the character Penny in the film, was on hand to kick off the event, which featured four people in giant hamster wheel-like contraptions to roll across the country to raise funds.

July 24, 2007 – Billy Ray Cyrus’s Debut Album on Walt Disney Records is Released

On July 24, 2007, the 10th studio album and debut release through Walt Disney Records for country artist Billy Ray Cyrus was released. The album, titled Home at Last, was the artist’s first release in four years, and his only release on the label. Cyrus was brought to the label when he and his daughter starred on the Disney Channel Original Series Hannah Montana. The album peaked at number 3 on the Top Country Albums chart, 20 on the Billboard 200, and 20 on the Top Comprehensive Albums.

July 22, 2006 – Radio Disney Holds 10th Birthday Concert

“We’re excited to bring our listeners and favorite artists together for one night to celebrate music, families, and Radio Disney.”

On July 22, 2006, Radio Disney held a special 10th birthday concert at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, California. The concert featured a mix of Hollywood Records recording artists and Radio Disney staples, including Jesse McCartney, Bowling for Soup, the Cheetah Girls, Aly & AJ, and Everlife. The concert was also broadcast live on the Radio Disney website. A second similar celebration was held in Dallas, Texas a few months later.

July 21, 2009 – Demi Lovato’s Second Album Here We Go Again is Released Through Hollywood Records

On July 21, 2009, the second studio album by recording artist and Disney Channel star Demi Lovato, entitled Here We Go Again, was released through Hollywood Records. The album was titled after its lead single, which was released on June 23; the second single was “Remember December,” which was released on January 18, 2010. Lovato worked with a variety of songwriters to give the album a more mature sound than her debut effort. The album was a critical success, debuting at number 1 on the Billboard 200, and going on to Gold certification.

July 17, 2009 – Imagineer and Disney Legend Marty Sklar is Honored with a Window on Main Street

(July 17, 2009) Marty Sklar, Executive Vice President and Walt Disney Imagineering Ambassador holds his tribute window at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., on Friday, the 54th anniversary of the opening of Disneyland. In a tradition begun by Walt Disney, second-story windows along Main Street USA pay tribute to the men and women who were instrumental in the creation and operation of Disneyland. Sklar's window, unveiled this morning, can be seen above City Hall at Town Square in Disneyland. Sklar, who began his Disney career in June 1955 as editor of "The Disneyland News," went on to work personally with Walt Disney on the creation of landmark Disney attractions for the 1964 World's Fair and leading the design of Walt Disney's final vision, Epcot. On July 17, 2009, coinciding with his retirement, as well as honoring the 54th anniversary of Disneyland, Marty Sklar was honored with a window on Main Street, USA. Sklar, who worked on The Disneyland News newsletter in 1955, officially began with WED Enterprises in 1961, and primarily worked in publicity work, becoming the creative leader for Imagineering for over 30 years. Sklar’s window is located at City Hall, which was seen as a symbol of his leadership, philosophy, and creative talent. Sklar has also been honored with a window in Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disney, and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park.
