May 12, 2017 – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has World Premiere at Shanghai Disney Resort

“In the shadow of Disney’s newest theme park that opened last year, hundreds of ‘Pirates’ fans lined up to catch a glimpse of stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Javier Bardem ahead of an afternoon viewing.”

On May 12, 2017, the world premiere of the newest film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was held at the new Shanghai Disney Resort. This was the first time that a Hollywood film had a premiere in mainland China, and Shanghai Disney was an interesting choice due to the park’s inclusion of Disney’s first pirate-themed park. Hundreds of fans of the films were on hand to celebrate the premiere and to see of the stars of the film, particularly Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Javier Bardem.

May 8, 2009 – The Collaboration Film Trail of the Panda is Released in China

“High in the mountains of the Sichuan province of China, a ten year old mute orphan boy, Lu, rescues a lost panda cub separated from its mother.”

On May 8, 2009, the second collaboration film between Disney and Chinese filmmakers, entitled Trail of the Panda, was released in China; it premiered in Chengdu on April 27. The film was set and filmed in the Sichuan Province, and features Daichi Harashima as ten-year-old Lu, a mute orphan who befriends lost panda cub Pang Pang and helps him find his way home. The film was eventually released on home video in the United States on September 6, 2011.

April 30, 2017 – The Disney Explorers Lodge Opens in Hong Kong Disneyland

“Take a break from your exciting adventures and join fellow explorers in this respite surrounded by the wonders of nature and diverse cultures.”

On April 30, 2017, the Disney Explorers Lodge resort opened in Hong Kong Disneyland. The resort is designed to represent several cultures and the spirit of exploration, and features 750-rooms that represent four climates from four areas: Asia, Oceania, South America, and Africa. The resort features three restaurants (Dragon Wind, World of Color, and Chart Room Café) that feature cuisines from the five continents.

April 28, 2008 – Abu’s Bazaar Opens in Tokyo DisneySea

On April 28, 2008, the specialty shop Abu’s Bazaar opened in Tokyo DisneySea’s Arabian Coast area. The shop, much like the area around it, is based on elements from the hit animated feature film Aladdin. The store has several arcade games set up, where guests can win Abu’s treasure, such as plush figures.

April 15, 1983 – The Restaurant Troubadour Tavern Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On April 15, 1983, the quick-service restaurant Troubadour Tavern opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Fantasyland area. The shop sells soft serve ice cream, in either sundae form or soft serve cones, and a variety of soft drinks.

April 13, 1996 – Goofy’s Bounce House Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On April 13, 1996, the attraction Goofy’s Bounce House opened Tokyo Disneyland’s Toontown area. It was based on the Disneyland attraction of the same name, where kids under a certain height limit were allowed to bounce around Goofy’s house, as the house is made of a balloon-like substance. The Tokyo Disneyland attraction was eventually replaced by Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play House, which opened on August 24, 2012.

April 12, 1992 – Walt’s – an American Restaurant Opens in Disneyland Paris

“In this restaurant which bears his name, certain dishes are inspired by some of his favorite food.”

On April 12, 1992, the table service restaurant Walt’s – an American Restaurant opened on Main Street in Disneyland Paris. Honoring the work and life of Walt Disney, the Victorian-style restaurant serves upscale versions of Walt’s favorite dishes, including a cheeseburger with chili con carne. The rooms of the restaurant are themed after the six worlds of Disneyland Paris: Fantasyland, Adventureland, Discoveryland, Disneyland Hotel, Grand Canyon, and Frontierland.

March 25, 2017 – The Restaurant Plazma Ray’s Diner Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On March 25, 2017, the quick service restaurant Plazma Ray’s Diner opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland area. The backstory for the restaurant is that it is part of an intergalactic diner chain named after its founder and owner. The restaurant features dishes such as glove shaped chicken bao, vegetable curry rice bowl, and a yogurt mousse cake. The restaurant also currently features several Star Wars themed desserts.

March 22, ­­2008 – The Interactive Attraction Stitch Live! Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Cowabunga! Chat to, and sing along with, the blue dude himself in the most magical of alien encounters.”

On March 22, 2008, the interactive attraction Stitch Live! opened in Disneyland Paris’ Walt Disney Studios Park. Similar to the attraction Turtle Talk with Crush, guests can interact with the Lilo and Stitch character Stitch, asking him questions and see him wreak havoc during a satellite feed. The Disneyland Paris version was a variation on the Stitch Encounter attraction that opened in Hong Kong Disneyland on July 13, 2006.

March 16, 2002 – The Attraction Armageddon: les Effets Spéciaux Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Rocket over to the Backlot for an explosive special effects experience in a spacecraft’s control room.”

On March 16, 2002, the backlot attraction Armageddon: les Effets Spéciaux opened in the Walt Disney Studios Park of Disneyland Paris. Guests learn about the history and current techniques of special effects through an interaction with the crew of the Armageddon as the space station is caught in a meteor shower. As the story moves, guests will find themselves in a room where things explode and collapse.
