May 11, 2017 – The Nighttime Fireworks Show Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams Ends

“Wishes, dream a dream; Wishes, set it free…”

On May 11, 2017, the nighttime fireworks show Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams ended its run at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park. It was narrated by Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio. Replacing the Fantasy in the Sky in 2003, the show became popular with guests, with a variation of the show opening in Disneyland Paris on July 16, 2005. Special variations of the show were created to celebrate specific holidays, including Happy HalloWishes: A Grim Grinning Ghost Spooktacular in the Sky; Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season; and Fantasy in the Sky: New Year’s Eve Countdown. The show was replaced by the Happily Ever After nighttime spectacular, which focused heavily on projection mapping on Cinderella Castle.

May 10, 2010 – The Attraction MicroAdventure! Closes in Tokyo Disneyland

On May 10, 2010, the 3-D film attraction MicroAdventure!, a revised version of the Honey, I Shrunk the Audience attraction from Epcot, officially closed. Having been open since April 15, 1997, the Japanese attraction featured new sequences that would appeal to Japanese audiences. The attraction had been sponsored by the Japan Credit Bureau, and was replaced by the Captain EO Tribute.

May 4, 2018 – Remastered Star Wars Soundtracks are Released Through Walt Disney Records

“Since the release of the first Star Wars movie 40 years ago, the Star Wars saga has had a seismic impact on both cinema and culture, inspiring audiences around the world with its mythic storytelling, captivating characters, groundbreaking special effects and iconic musical scores composed by John Williams.”

On May 4, 2018, to honor the 40th anniversary of the Star Wars series of films, Walt Disney Records released remastered version of the soundtracks for the first six films. The score, composed by John Williams, has been awarded several Academy Award nominations, and won in 1977 for Best Original Score. Alongside the remastered score, the CDs released include new artwork and a mini-poster for collectors.

April 27, 2013 – The First Radio Disney Music Awards are Held

“The star power of its presenters and nominees is a testament to the venerable brand that is Mickey Mouse Inc., but also to its commitment to music.”

On April 27, 2013, the first Radio Disney Music Awards were held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California. Although similar awards were held in the past, they were an informal special radio program that had its last broadcast in 2007; this ceremony was the first official formal ceremony. The awards themselves have viewers and listeners determine the winners through weeks of submitting their votes through various messaging methods, such as text messaging and social media channels. The award winners feature a variety of musical artists, ranging from Disney Channel stars to big-name pop artists. Attendees and performers included Bridgit Mendler, Coco Jones, and Selena Gomez. Of the big three awards, Best Music Group went to One Direction, Best Male Artist went to Justin Bieber, and Best Female Artist went to Selena Gomez.

April 26, 2018 – The Disney-Pixar Toy Story Land Expansion of Shanghai Disney Opens

On April 26, 2018, the first major expansion of the Shanghai Disneyland park, known as Disney-Pixar Toy Story Land, opened. Shanghai Disneyland, open since 2016, had quickly become the most successful theme park to open in China; likewise, the Toy Story franchise had a huge impact on China, with Toy Story 3 becoming the highest-grossing Pixar film in China at the time. The expansion gave guests the illusion of being the size of a toy as they travel through the exquisitely decorated area, meeting characters from the film and having unique dining experiences. Similar expansions were also built in Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, to much success. The grand opening ceremony featured CEO Bob Iger among a variety of local Chinese government officials and honored guests.

April 25, 2015 – The Third Radio Disney Music Awards are Held at the Microsoft Theater

“Music’s biggest event for families – the Radio Disney Music Awards are coming!”

On April 25, 2015, the third Radio Disney Music Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The awards themselves have viewers and listeners determine the winners through weeks of submitting their votes through various messaging methods, such as text messaging and social media channels. The award winners feature a variety of musical artists, ranging from Disney Channel stars to big-name pop artists. Of the big three awards, Best Music Group went to girl group Fifth Harmony, Best Male Artist went to Ed Sheeran, and Best Female Artist went to Ariana Grande. Jennifer Lopez was awarded the special Hero Award in recognition for her service to women and children through the Lopez Family Foundation.

April 20, 2012 – The Disneynature Film Chimpanzee is Released to Theaters

“For Oscar, every day is an adventure.”

On April 20, 2012, the sixth entry in the Disneynature film line, Chimpanzee, was released to theaters. The film follows the story of a young chimpanzee named Oscar who, after his close-knit tribe is attached by a rival gang of chimps, has to fend for himself in the forest. This film was notable for being the first documented footage of chimpanzees committing acts of altruism. The film was directed by Alistair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, and narrated by Tim Allen. Principal photography was done in the jungles of Uganda and the Ivory Coast.

April 16, 2013 – The Disneynature Film Wings of Life is Released on Blu-Ray

“A beautiful love story in danger.”

On April 16, 2013, the fourth Disneynature film Wings of Life was released on Blu-Ray, after a week-long engagement at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. The film was originally released in France on March 16, 2011, under the title Pollen, and released in the United Kingdom as Hidden Beauty: A Love Story that Feeds the Earth. Produced by Blacklight Films, this French-American film takes a look at pollinators, including bees, butterflies, birds, and bats, and how they keep the ecosystem stable. The film was directed by Louie Schwartzberg, with the American version narrated by Meryl Streep.

April 14, 2010 – Lyric Street Records Officially Closes

“The Lyric Street team has had an amazing run, building a slate of well-known artists including the superstar act, Rascal Flatts.” – Chairman of Disney Music Group, Bob Cavallo

On April 14, 2010, the Disney-owned country record label Lyric Street Records officially closed its operations. The label opened in 1997, with sister label Carolwood being created in 2008. Both labels were closed as part of Disney’s streamlined priorities, and executives were actively looking for new labels for their big artists, such as Rascal Flatts and Bucky Covington.

April 5, 2013 – The Disneynature Film Wings of Life Begins Limited Run at Chinese Theater

“A beautiful love story in danger.”

On April 5, 2013, the fourth Disneynature film, Wings of Life, was released in a one-week engagement at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California. Produced by Blacklight Films, this French-American film takes a look at pollinators, including bees, butterflies, birds, and bats, and how they keep the ecosystem stable. This theatrical engagement was a promotional showing before the film was released on Blu-Ray on April 16, 2013. The film also had releases in France (as Pollen) and the United Kingdom (as Hidden Beauty: A Love Story that Feeds the Earth). The film was directed by Louie Schwartzberg, and was narrated by Meryl Streep.
