October 11, 2006 – The Store Disney Vault 28 Opens in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney

“Wear your love of Disney on your sleeve in a totally new way with retro and on-trend apparel and accessories.”

On October 11, 2006, the boutique store Disney Vault 28 opened in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney shopping district. The store offers Disney-inspired fashion for women, ranging from dresses to handbags. A grand opening celebration was held for the store on November 12, 2006. The store closed in September 2017 to make room for a new Star Wars-themed store.

October 10, 2005 – The Animation Academy Opens in Disney California Adventure

“Discover how Disney characters are brought to life during a hands-on presentation with a Disney artist.”

On October 10, 2005, the Animation Academy opened in Disney California Adventure. This was the fourth version of this instructor-led animation school, with the first version having opened in Walt Disney World’s DisneyQuest in 1998. Guests can come in and learn from professional Disney animators on how to draw a variety of Disney characters. Animation Academy is located in the Disney Animation Building, where guests can learn more about the process of animation.

October 7, 2002 – The Area Flik’s Fun Fair Opens in Disney California Adventure

“Hop inside a discarded food carton for a gentle flight above Flik’s Fun Fair.”

On October 7, 2002, Flik’s Fun Fair opened in A Bug’s Land area of Disney California Adventure. Based on the Pixar animated feature A Bug’s Life, the area features attractions suited for younger guests. Guests are “shrunk down” to the size of a bug after going through a fallen cereal box, and can experience attractions based on particular attributes of characters, such as the inventive nature of main character Flik. The attraction includes Flik’s Flyers, Tuck & Roll’s Drive ‘Em Buggies, Heimlick’s Chew Chew Train, Francis’s Ladybug Boogie, and Princess Dot Puddle Park.

October 6, 2006 – The Princess Fantasy Faire Opens in Disneyland

“Where happily ever after happens every day!”

On October 6, 2006, the Princess Fantasy Faire opened in Disneyland’s Fantasyland Theater. The attraction replaced Snow White – An Enchanting Musical, and featured several Disney princesses, such as Belle, Aurora, and Mulan. The area provided guests with a chance to meet the Disney princesses, and was located right next to Sleeping Beauty’s castle. Guests were also able to participate in an interactive storytelling experience with a princess, and learn how to be a true princess or a knight in a coronation ceremony. The area closed on August 12, 2012.

October 5, 2009 – Rich Ross is Named Chairman of Walt Disney Studios

On October 5, 2009, The Walt Disney Company announced that Rich Ross would be taking the role of Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios. Ross, who was then serving as the President of Disney Channels Worldwide, saw that he would not only be overseeing the worldwide production of the company’s range of films (including Walt Disney Animation, Touchstone, Miramax, and Disney/Pixar), but would also be head of Disney’s theatrical and music ventures. Ross was chosen for the role based on his work in expanding the performance of Disney Channels Worldwide, as well as overseeing the growth of Radio Disney. He joined Disney in 1996 as the Senior Vice President, Programming and Production for Disney Channel, and was named President of Disney Channels Worldwide in 2004. Ross would remain in the role of Chairman until 2012.

September 21, 2007 – The Merchandise Store Toy Station Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On September 21, 2007, the specialty merchandise store Toy Station opened in Tokyo Disneyland. The shop, located in the World Bazaar, focuses mainly on toys, but also sells snacks, batteries, and umbrellas and ponchos for rainy days within the park. The store features a variety of Disney character toys, ranging from classic characters to Pixar favorites.

September 12, 2005 – The Food Court Clopin’s Festival of Foods Opens in Hong Kong Disneyland

“Clopin’s Festival of Foods recreates the fantastic fun of the very special celebration that changed Quasimodo’s life forever – and only a fool would miss the delicious dishes offered at this festive restaurant!”

On September 12, 2005, the quick service food court Clopin’s Festival of Foods opened in Hong Kong Disneyland. Themed around the Festival of Fools from the animated feature film The Hunchback of Notre Dame, this food court provides three different menus, celebrating the “Great Flavors of China:” Regional Noodles, Guangdong BBQ, and Wok Favorites. Dishes include dried shrimp roe noodles, Beijing braised beef and scallions with rice, and prawns with Yangzhou fried rice.

September 6, 2004 – The Book Disney Villains: The Essential Guide is Released Through DK Children

On September 6, 2004, the children’s book Disney Villains: The Essential Guide was published through DK Children, a well-known British publishing company that specializes in reference books. The book gives children and other interested parties a glimpse into the Disney villains, ranging from the Evil Queen to Hades, providing information about their evil schemes, their lairs, and even their lackeys.

September 5, 2001 – The Reality Show The Amazing Race Premieres on CBS

“The world is waiting for you. Good luck. Travel safe. Go!”

On September 5, 2001, the reality adventure game show The Amazing Race premiered on CBS. A joint production between Disney-owned Touchstone Television and CBS productions, the show featured 11 teams of two people, ranging from couples to coworkers, racing around the world to win a $1 million prize. The show has won several Emmy awards for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. The show is hosted by New Zealand television personality Phil Keoghan.

September 4, 2001 – The Magic Lamp Theater Opens in Tokyo DisneySea

“ジーニーが繰り広げる迫力満点のパフォーマンスをお楽しみに！”

On September 4, 2001, the Magic Lamp Theater opened in Tokyo DisneySea in the Arabian Coast area. The attraction features the popular character Genie from the Disney animated feature Aladdin. The theater opens with a special presentation by the snake Bakeet, who explains to the audience the significance of the magical lamp, and how Genie ended up as the magician Shaban’s partner, though Shaban locks Genie away to be seen as the best magician in the world. Guests then go into the theater to see a live show featuring Shaban and his assistant Aseem, though Shaban is failing at his magic. Aseem then unlocks the Genie, which leads to a combination live show and 3D film with magical misadventures.
