October 31, 1993 – The Book The Disney Villain is Published by Hyperion

“Disney villains in particular are some of the most exciting and memorable characters in popular culture, and the Disney Villain…is the first comprehensive retrospective of the wondrous gallery of fifty-five charismatic and colorful rapscallions that audiences throughout the years have loved to hate.”

On October 31, 1993, the book The Disney Villain was published by Disney’s publishing arm Hyperion. Written by veteran animators and members of the Nine Old Men Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, the book celebrates and explores the villains in the then 60 years of Disney animation, starting with Mickey’s nemesis Peg Leg Pete, and moving to the villains of the emerging years of the Disney Renaissance. The book was also notable for looking at the nature of villains across a wide-spectrum of characters, ranging from Monstro the whale to Maleficent.

On September 6, 2004, the children’s book Disney Villains: The Essential Guide was published through DK Children, a well-known British publishing company that specializes in reference books. The book gives children and other interested parties a glimpse into the Disney villains, ranging from the Evil Queen to Hades, providing information about their evil schemes, their lairs, and even their lackeys.

July 31, 2007 – The Book The Mickey Mouse Treasures is Published by Disney Editions

On July 31, 2007, the book The Mickey Mouse Treasures was published by Disney Editions. Written by Disney Archives manager Robert Tieman, the book tells the story of Mickey Mouse and his career, beginning with his debut in Steamboat Willie and touching on important milestones, including Fantasia and The Mickey Mouse Club. The book includes interviews with animators and voice actors that have helped create Mickey through the years. The book also includes a set of reproduction documents, including a program from the world premiere of Fantasia, and an album of the official Mickey Mouse birthday portraits. Currently, the book is out of print.

May 31, 1991 – Disney Press Publishes Its First Book: 101 Dalmatians: A Counting Book

“Disney Press publishes a broad list of titles for children – from infants to tweens – that celebrate and expand the worlds of favorite Disney characters, films, and television programs.”

Disney Press, a department of Disney Publishing Worldwide, released its first book on May 31, 1991. It was titled 101 Dalmatians: A Counting Book. The purpose of Disney Press is to release Disney-themed children’s books, with the audience ranging from infants to tweens. The subjects cover all aspects of Disney franchises, from Disney Fairies to Disney Pixar films. Some of their featured titles include The Princess and the Frog: Tiana’s Cookbook – Recipes for Kids, Disney Bedtime Favorites, Meet the Cars, and Phineas and Ferb Laughapalooza Joke Book.
