September 21, 2004 – The Album This Is My Time by Raven-Symoné is Released Through Hollywood Records

“I want to see you back flip, cartwheel, don’t be cutting corners on me.”

On September 21, 2004, the third recording album by actress and singer-songwriter Raven-Symoné, entitled This Is My Time, was released through Hollywood Records in the United States. The album featured songs from a previously released EP, along with four songs Raven-Symoné contributed to film soundtracks for Disney films: “Grazing in the Grass” for The Lion King 1½, “This Is My Time” from The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, “Bump” from Ice Princess, and “Life is Beautiful” from Go Figure. The album peaked at number 51 on the Billboard 200, making it her first album to chart. Three songs were released as singles to promote the album: “Grazing in the Grass,” “Backflip,” and “Bump.”

September 20, 2011 – Disney Announces Joint Partnership with Lightstorm Entertainment

“…Disney will partner with Cameron and producing partner Jon Landau to create themed lands that will give theme park guests the opportunity to explore the mysterious universe of AVATAR first hand.”

On September 20, 2011, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide announced that they had entered into a partnership with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, along with Fox Filmed Entertainment. This exclusive agreement would give Disney the rights to create a new park based on Cameron’s blockbuster film Avatar. It was also announced that the Avatar-themed land would be added to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World, with construction beginning in 2013. This agreement also gives Disney the opportunity to build other Avatar lands in other Disney Parks around the world.

September 19, 2010 – Duffy the Disney Bear Premieres in Disney California Adventure

“Together, Duffy and Mickey travel the world sharing adventures and making friends along the way.”

On September 19, 2010, the character Duffy made his first U.S. appearance in Disney California Adventure for Annual Passholders. A popular figure in Japan’s Tokyo DisneySea, the character was introduced as Mickey’s special bear given to him by Minnie before he set off on a long adventure. Duffy, in his character meet-and-greets, wears a special sailor suit; guests can buy their own Duffy and customize his outfits in a variety of ways. Duffy would officially premiere at all U.S. Disney Parks on October 14, 2010.

September 18, 1932 – Mickey’s Nephews Ferdy and Morty Premiere in the Mickey Mouse Comic Strip

“Just wait’ll I catch those kids! I’ll make ‘em wish they hadn’t!”

On September 18, 1932, the twin characters Ferdy and Morty, Mickey’s nephews, officially premiered in the Mickey Mouse comic strip (although in this first appearance, Ferdy was spelled “Ferdie;” the spelling was subsequently changed). They first appeared in the comic Mickey’s Nephews, where the twins are left with Mickey and cause havoc for their poor uncle, until he ties them to the bed and reads them a bedtime story, which he has been told calms them down. The characters only made one appearance in an animated short film: the 1934 short film Mickey’s Steam Roller.

September 17, 1991 – In the Meantime, In Between Time is Released by The Party

“In my dream it’s still the same, your love is strong, it still remains.”

On September 17, 1991, the second album by the pop group The Party, titled In the Meantime, In Between Time, was released through a joint production between Hollywood Records and Elektra Records. The group was formed by Disney, featuring five members of the 1989 revival of the Mickey Mouse Club (also known as the MMC): Albert Fields, Tiffini Hale, Chase Hampton, Deedee Magno Hall, and Damon Pampolina. The album fared better than its self-titled predecessor, peaking at number 77 on the Billboard chart. Two singles were released to promote the album: “In My Dreams,” and “Private Affair;” the former was a cover by the heavy metal band Dokken, and peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100.

September 16, 2013 – Disney Announces Cast for New Broadway Musical Aladdin

On September 16, 2013, Disney Theatrical Productions released the cast list of their newest theatrical production, Aladdin. The cast of 34 would be lead by Adam Jacobs, who would be playing the titular role. Based on the 1992 hit animated feature film, this stage adaptation brings back composer Alan Menken to score the popular songs from the movie for the stage, as well as to provide new songs written exclusively for the show. The cast also includes James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie, Courtney Reed as Jasmine, and Jonathan Freeman as Jafar, returning to the role after voicing it in the animated feature film. The musical would go on to open on Broadway on March 20, 2014, at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

September 15, 1996 – Ellen’s Energy Adventure Attraction Opens in Epcot

“What is, ‘who is it?’”

On September 15, 1996, the attraction Ellen’s Energy Adventure opened in Epcot’s Universe of Energy. Originally replacing the Universe of Energy attraction, this updated attraction featured Ellen DeGeneres, Bill Nye “The Science Guy,” Jamie Lee Curtis, Alex Trebek, and Johnny Gilbert, teaching guests about how energy is produced, the current sources of energy, and the search for new, renewable sources of energy. Guests sit in a special seating area and watch a series of films, as well as an audio-animatronic diorama featuring a primeval world; the seating sections split apart at this point to move through the diorama before reassembling for the final two films. The attraction was closed on August 13, 2017, to make way for a new Guardians of the Galaxy themed attraction.

September 14, 1998 – The Store Villains in Vogue Opens in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

On September 14, 1998, the villains-themed store Villains in Vogue opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The store sold a variety of goods related to popular Disney villains, such as Maleficent and Ursula, as well as goods featuring the characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas. In the summer of 2015, the store was revamped, removing the villain theme and turning it into a general merchandise stop named Reel Vogue.

September 13, 1959 – The Rainbow Mountain Stage Coaches Attraction Closes

On September 13, 1959, after only about four years of operation, the Rainbow Mountain Stage Coach attraction was officially closed. The attraction first opened in 1955 as the Stage Coaches, and was reopened as Rainbow Mountain Stage Coaches on June 26, 1956. Guests boarded a stagecoach and traveled around Frontierland, particularly through the Living Desert and other updates to the area. Unfortunately, the attraction was forced to close due to the horses continually getting spooked by the Disneyland Railroad rolling by.

September 12, 2005 – The Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad Opens

“Depart from turn-of-the-century America onboard a vintage locomotive for a scenic tour of Hong Kong Disneyland Park.”

On September 12, 2005, the Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad opened, with stations located in Fantasyland and Main Street, USA. The railroad is a mainstay of Disney Parks, going back to Walt Disney’s passion for model trains, as well as the original Disneyland Railroad. Hong Kong Disneyland features three locomotives named after important figures in Disney Company history: Walter E. Disney, Roy O. Disney, and Frank G. Wells.
