May 9, 2008 – The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra Hosts The Magical Music of Disney

“‘Be Our Guest’ as you ‘Step in Time’ to the Magical Music of Disney.”

On May 9, 2008, a special performance by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra entitled The Magical Music of Disney was presented. The special orchestration, held from May 9 through May 11, featured pieces from Disney classics both new and old, ranging from Mary Poppins to Beauty and the Beast. The orchestra was joined by singers and dancers to accompany the popular pieces. Similar performances have been held at other concert halls, adding more popular pieces through the years, including instrumentals from Pirates of the Caribbean to the hit songs from Frozen.

April 22, 2003 – The Soundtrack to The Lizzie McGuire Movie is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On April 22, 2003, the soundtrack to The Lizzie McGuire Movie was released by Walt Disney Records. The album contained tracks featured in the movie and songs by other popular artists. Lead actress Hilary Duff is also featured on the soundtrack, singing “What Dreams Are Made Of” and “Why Not,” with the latter being featured not only a promotional single, but as a single on Duff’s second studio album Metamorphosis. The album was highly successful, going on to be certified 2x platinum by the RIAA, and peaking at number one on the Billboard Top Soundtracks album and number six on the Billboard 200.

April 11, 2006 – The Soundtrack for The Wild is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On April 11, 2006, the soundtrack for the Walt Disney Pictures and C.O.R.E. Feature Animation joint production The Wild was released through Walt Disney Records. While most of the album contained the film score by Alan Silvestri, artists included on the album ranged from Disney recording artists Everlife, to more popular acts Coldplay and Lifehouse. The album also features actor Eric Idle singing a song called “Really Nice Day.”

March 22, 2005 – The Updated Soundtrack to the Animated Series Kim Possible is Released

“Call me, beep me, if you want to reach me.”

On March 22, 2005, the soundtrack to the hit animated series Kim Possible was re-released through Walt Disney Records. An updated version of the original 2003 album, this version contained remixes of the theme song “Call Me, Beep Me! (The Kim Possible Song)” by Christina Milian, as well as a combination of songs from and inspired by the show. The artists featured include Disney artist (and voice of title character) Christy Carlson Romano, pop artist Aaron Carter, and band Smash Mouth.

March 2, 2014 – Frozen Wins Disney’s First Best Animated Feature Academy Award

On March 2, 2014, the 86th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. The animated feature film Frozen won two Academy Awards: one for Best Original Song for “Let it Go” by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and one for Best Animated Feature. This was Disney Animation Studio’s first win in the category since it was established in 2001. Frozen won against The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Ernest & Celestine, and The Wind Rises.

February 24, 1993 – Beauty and the Beast Wins Five Grammy Awards

“Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, Beauty and the Beast.”

On February 24, 1993, the Grammy Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Out of seven nominations, the soundtrack to the animated feature film Beauty and the Beast won five awards that night. The soundtrack itself won the award for Best Album for Children, as well as Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture or for Television. The pop version of the song “Beauty and the Beast,” performed by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson won two awards: Best Pop Performance by a Group or Duo With Vocal, Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television; composer Richard S. Kaufman took home the last Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.

January 29, 2008 – The Soundtrack to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is Released

“Got a whale of a tale to tell you lads, a whale of a tale or two…”

On January 29, 2008, the digital version of the soundtrack for the live-action feature film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was released through Walt Disney Records. Although two vinyl records were released (one in 1954, the second in 1963 around the film’s re-release), these two records were more like story records rather than a soundtrack; this digital album is the first time the score of the film by Paul J. Smith was released. The soundtrack is 26 tracks long, along with several single versions of the film’s song “Whale of a Tale,” sung by actor Kirk Douglas.

January 25, 2005 – The Soundtrack to Mulan II is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On January 25, 2005, the soundtrack to the direct-to-video animated feature Mulan II was released through Walt Disney Records. The soundtrack features the vocals of Lea Salonga, Judy Kuhn, Beth Blankenship, Mandy Gonzales, Gedde Watanabe, Jerry Tondo, and Harvey Fierstein; Salonga, Watanabe, Tondo, and Fierstein reprised their roles from the original Mulan. The soundtrack also features two additional songs: “Here Beside Me” by Hayley Westenra, and “(I Wanna Be) Like Other Girls” by British pop girl group Atomic Kitten.

December 4, 2007 – The Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack Treasures Collection is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On December 4, 2007, the Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack Treasures Collection box set was released through Walt Disney Records. The box set contained four CDs, featuring the three soundtracks for the films, along with a fourth CD featuring remixes and unreleased cues and pieces; it also contains some of the earliest demos created by Hans Zimmer in the early stages of production. The set also includes a DVD with special behind-the-scenes extras and interviews with composer Hans Zimmer.

October 24, 2006 – The Soundtrack to the Disney Channel Original Series Hannah Montana is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On October 24, 2006, the first soundtrack for the hit Disney Channel Original Series Hannah Montana was released through Walt Disney Records. The soundtrack began production after the show premiered with the highest ratings in the channel’s history. It featured songs from the show sung by titular character played by Miley Cyrus, as well as songs by performers The Click Five, Jesse McCartney, Everlife, and B5. The soundtrack debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200, with a first week sales of 286,000 copies, beating out My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade and John Legend’s Once Again; it was also the first television soundtrack to reach the top spot on the chart. To date, the album has sold more than 5 million copies.
