January 31, 2006 – The Compilation Album Radio Disney Jams, Vol. 8 is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On January 31, 2006, the eighth volume of the compilation series Radio Disney Jams was released through Walt Disney Records. The album not only featured songs that had heavy airplay on Radio Disney, but also those songs that were used to promote Disney Channel programming and Disney animated feature films. Included in the track listing were Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne, Shake a Tail Feather by The Cheetah Girls, and Just The Way I Am by Skye Sweetnam. The album would go on to peak at number 70 on the Billboard 200 chart.

January 27, 1998 – The Compilation Album Winnie the Pooh: Friends Forever is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On January 27, 1998, the compilation album Winnie the Pooh: Friends Forever was released through Walt Disney Records. The album featured several original songs about friendship inspired by the Winnie the Pooh series, featuring artists such as Mark Lennon, Nancy Bryan, and the cast of Winnie the Pooh. This album is one of many compilation albums released for the Winnie the Pooh franchise, and features songs with strong Celtic and acoustic influences.

On January 25, 2011, the nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards were announced from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. The Walt Disney Company managed to secure 13 nominations, with Toy Story 3 receiving five (Best Picture, Best Animated Feature Film, Adapted Screenplay, Original Song, and Sound Editing), the Pixar short Day and Night receiving one (Best Animated Short Film), Tangled receiving one (Best Original Song), Alice in Wonderland receiving three (Achievement in Costume Design, Art Direction, and Achievement in Visual Effects), TRON: Legacy receiving one (Achievement in Sound Editing), Iron Man 2 receiving one (Achievement in Visual Effects), and The Tempest receiving one (Achievement in Costume Design). In the end, Disney would walk away with four: Best Animated Feature for Toy Story 3, Best Original Song for “We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3, and Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design for Alice in Wonderland.

November 2, 2004 – Walt Disney Records Presents Superstar Hits is Released

On November 2, 2004, Walt Disney Records released the compilation album Walt Disney Records Presents Superstar Hits. The album contained pop versions of Disney songs from Disney’s more modern era, ranging from Beauty and the Beast, to Pixar’s Monsters Inc., to Treasure Planet; several of these songs were included in the credits of these animated films. Artists ranged from Peabo Bryson, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, and Tina Turner.

November 1, 2005 – The Soundtrack to Chicken Little is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On November 1, 2005, the soundtrack to Disney’s 46th animated feature film Chicken Little was released through Walt Disney Records. The film features no original songs, but covers of popular songs from a wide range of genres, including “Shake a Tail Feather” performed by the Cheetah Girls (originally by The Five Du-Tones), and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by the cast of the film (originally by Elton John and Kiki Dee. The soundtrack also features the score of the film by John Debney.

October 28, 2008 – The Rascal Flatts Album Greatest Hits Volume 1 is Released Through Lyric Street Records

On October 28, 2008, the first greatest hits album by country group Rascal Flatts, entitled Greatest Hits Volume 1, was released on Disney-owned country label Lyric Street Records. The album contained 13 of the band’s best hits from their first four studio albums, including “I’m Movin’ On,” “I Melt,” and “Bless the Broken Road.” The album also contained three Christmas songs as bonus tracks. The album peaked at number two on the Top Country Albums, and number 6 of the Billboard 200. The album was reissued in 2009 with four live bonus tracks, along with an audio interview with the band.

October 26, 2004 – The Compilation Album Greatest Disney TV & Film Hits by Christy Carlson Romano is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On October 26, 2004, the album Greatest Disney TV & Film Hits by Christy Carlson Romano was released through Walt Disney Records. The album was a compilation of songs Romano had recorded for several Disney projects, including the Disneymania series, Even Stevens, and Kim Possible. The original song “Dive In” was the only song recorded specifically for this release. The album is the only release by Romano.

October 25, 2011 – Tribute Album In the Key of Disney by Brian Wilson is Released

On October 25, 2011, the tenth studio album by recording artist Brian Wilson, titled In the Key of Disney, was released through Walt Disney Records. The second album for Disney, Wilson took his distinctive Beach Boys style and applied it to a variety of Disney staples, ranging from “The Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story. Disney had approached Wilson with an idea for a Disney tribute album in 2009, but Wilson wished to create a Gershwin tribute album first, which he released in 2010.

October 20, 2009 – LA Phil Presents the Disney Symphonic Legacy is Held at the Walt Disney Concert Hall

“The Disney Symphonic Legacy celebrates the connection between the inspiration of music and the heritage of Walt Disney’s legendary films.”

On October 20, 2009, a special concert entitled LA Phil Presents the Disney Symphonic Legacy was held at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. This was the first time since the hall opened in 2003 that it has had a program consisting of solely Disney music. The program was conducted by John Mauceri, and featured not only symphonic music, but live narration, vocal accompaniment, and rarely seen drawings and concept art from the Disney vault; the program also boasted the premiere of the symphonic retelling of Disney’s timeless classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

October 4, 2005 – The Special Edition Soundtrack for Cinderella is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On October 4, 2005, in conjunction with the Platinum Edition home video release, the Special Edition Soundtrack for the animated feature Cinderella was released through Walt Disney Records. The album featured songs from the hit animated feature, and included extras in the form of demo recordings of songs cut from the film, as well as a cover of “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” by Kimberley Locke and the song “Beautiful” by Jim Brickman and Wayne Brady.
