July 21, 2005 – The Roller Coaster Raging Spirits Opens in Tokyo DisneySea

On July 21, the TokyoDisney Sea roller coaster attraction Raging Spirits opened in the Lost River Delta area. Set in the exhumed ruins of a ceremonial site, guests are taken through thrills such as spurts of fire and streams of water, culminating in a 360-degree loop before a plunge into a sinkhole. From the top of the attraction, guests have stunning aerial view of the Tokyo DisneySea park.

July 12, 1989 – The Star Tours Attraction Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On July 12, 1989, the attraction Star Tours opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland area. The attraction was based on the Disneyland attraction of the same name that opened on January 9, 1987. Created in cooperation with George Lucas, the attraction is based on the hit Star Wars film trilogy. The film in the attraction was dubbed for Japanese audiences, featuring Nozawa Nachi as the voice of C-3P0. On April 2, 2012, the attraction was closed as part of a major overhaul that began with the Disneyland version in 2010. The remodeled version opened on May 7, 2013, under the new name Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

July 10, 2014 – The Attraction Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Shrink down to the size of Remy and duck, dive, dodge and scurry to safety in a dazzling chase across a gigantic kitchen.”

On July 10, 2014, the Pixar attraction Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy opened in Disneyland Paris. The 4D attraction, inspired by the Pixar film Ratatouille, gives guests the experience of being a rat with Remy in the famous Gusteau’s restaurant. The adventure begins when they are discovered by Chef Skinner, who hunts them down through the restaurant. The attraction, while remaining true to the spirit of the film, also explores the culture of the country of the film’s setting: France.

July 8, 1909 – Publisher and Disney Legend Mario Gentilini is Born

On July 8, 1909, Mario Gentilini was born inLuzzara, Italy. After studying art at the Accademia di Brera, he garnered a reputation as a figurative painter, and also taught high school until 1936. He was offered a temporary position at Arnoldo Mondadori Editore, a well-known publishing firm. It was there that Gentilini learned of Topolino magazine, which published the translated version of the popular Mickey Mouse comics. Gentilini’s position became full-time at the firm, and he started working as a retouch artist for the magazine before becoming its editor nine years later. Gentilini was instrumental in giving Italian artists to tell their own stories featuring the Disney characters; he also created the monthly magazine I Classici di Walt Disney in 1958, which featured the best stories from Topolino. His new magazine was published in seven languages, selling an average of two million copies per issue. He also created Manuale dell Giovani Marmotte, a Disney-themed manual for the Italian boy scouts. Gertilini retired from the publishing firm in 1980, and passed away in 1988. In 1997, he was inducted as a Disney Legend for his work in international Disney publishing.

July 7, 2000 – The Entertainment Area Ikspiari Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On July 7, 2000, the shopping and entertainment area Ikspiari opened in Tokyo Disneyland. Located near the Disney Ambassador Hotel, the area is similar to the Downtown Disney area of the American Disney parks, featuring restaurants, a movie theater, over 100 stores, and a large Disney Store. The area also hosts several events, including sales and campaigns. The shops also host a “Lady’s Day,” where women can get a selection of offers, including percentages off of their purchases and double points on their point cards.

July 3, 2004 – The Live Show One Man’s Dream II – The Magic Lives On Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On July 3, 2004, the live show One Man’s Dream II – The Magic Lives On opened in Tokyo Disneyland. A revised version of the One Man’s Dream show that ran from April 15, 1988 to September 3, 1995, the 30-minute show was a musical spectacular that took guests through magical scenes from several Disney films, honoring the imagination of Walt Disney. This show was unique in the aspect that it began with black-and-white scenery and costumes before exploding into a wonderful world of color. The show freatured characters such as Snow White, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan.

May 27, 1992 – The Sequoia Lodge Hotel Opens in Disneyland Paris

On May 27, 1992, the Sequoia Lodge opened in Disneyland Paris. Designed by Antoine Grumbach, it was designed to capture the feel of a rustic wilderness retreat while surrounding Lake Disney. The lodge has several types of rooms, including a standard room, a Montana room, and a Golden Forest Club room. The hotel also includes two places for guests to dine: the Hunter’s Grill and Beaver Creek Tavern, which serves an all-you-can-eat buffet of hearty American fare; and the Redwood Bar and Lounge, where guests can grab a cocktail in front of a roaring fire. The lodge also features a sauna and fitness center, as well as in-hotel shopping at the Boutique: Northwest Passage.

May 8, 2000 – The Millennium Dreamers Global Gathering Takes Place in Epcot

On May 8, 2000, as part of many festivities planned to celebrate the millennium, a global gathering of 2,000 youths was held in Epcot for three days. Known as the Millennium Dreamers Global Children’s Summit, the event was sponsored by McDonalds and UNESCO. The children were chosen through an essay contest about philanthropy, and were taken around Epcot to for special workshops, network events, and behind-the-scenes tours of Epcot facilities. Representatives ranged from age 8 to 15, coming from over 90 countries around the world. In this event, children were able to share their remarkable stories of making a difference while participating in a global symposium hosted by the Disney Institute. The event ended on May 10.

May 7, 2013 – The Attraction Star Tours: The Adventures Continue Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On May 7, 2013, the revamped version of the attraction Star Tours, now known as Star Tours: The Adventures Continue opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. Incorporating elements from the three prequel films, the attraction is set between the film Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. It is similar to the attractions of the same name that opened in 2011 in the American Disney parks. Guests are given a random journey once they board the ride, with the system picking one of 54 routes. This new attraction also included a new 3D element, adding to the excitement of the attraction. It was estimated that about 7 billion yen was invested in the revamp of the attraction. Like many film attractions in the park, the voyage was dubbed in Japanese, with Hiroshi Iwasaki voicing C-3PO and Toru Ohira voicing Darth Vader.

May 2, 1986 – The Circlevision Film Portraits of Canada Premieres at Expo ‘86

On May 2, 1986, the world fair Expo ’86 was held in Vancouver, Canada, and featured the circlevision film Portraits of Canada, done in a joint production by Disney and Telecom Canada. The film gives guests a 360 degree tour of Canada over nine screens, similar to the Disneyland film America the Beautiful. After the Expo was over, the film was briefly shown in the Canadian Pavilion of Walt Disney World’s Epcot park.
