July 21, 2009 – Demi Lovato’s Second Album Here We Go Again is Released Through Hollywood Records

On July 21, 2009, the second studio album by recording artist and Disney Channel star Demi Lovato, entitled Here We Go Again, was released through Hollywood Records. The album was titled after its lead single, which was released on June 23; the second single was “Remember December,” which was released on January 18, 2010. Lovato worked with a variety of songwriters to give the album a more mature sound than her debut effort. The album was a critical success, debuting at number 1 on the Billboard 200, and going on to Gold certification.

July 10, 1999 – The Special Backstreet Boys in Concert Premieres on Disney Channel

On July 10, 1999, as part of the Disney Channel in Concert series, the episode Backstreet Boys in Concert premiered. The special was filmed during the boy band’s Into the Millennium tour, specifically at the New Amsterdam theatre in New York City, which was filmed on May 11, 1999 as part of the pre-tour. In between sets within the concert, there are special one-on-one moments with each member of the group as they explore the city.

June 17, 2008 – The Soundtrack to Camp Rock is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On June 17, 2008, the soundtrack to the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock was released through Walt Disney Records. The soundtrack had been streamed a week earlier on the Camp Rock official site, and officially premiered on Radio Disney on the 14th. On its official release, the album peaked at 3 on the Billboard 200, as well as reaching 2 on the U.S. iTunes store. The soundtrack featured performances by the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato, the stars of the film.

June 8, 2004 – The Soundtrack for the Disney Channel Original Movie Zenon: Z3 is Released

On June 8, 2004 the soundtrack for the Disney Channel Original Movie Zenon: Z3 was released through Walt Disney Records. The album featured songs from the fictional artists in the film, including Proto Zoa and Cosmic Blush; it also includes a remix of the hit song from the first movie in the series “Supernova Girl.” The album peaked at number 24 on the top soundtracks Billboard chart.

April 3, 2007 – Anneliese van der Pol Take the Stage as Belle in Beauty and the Beast

On April 3, 2007, Disney Channel star Anneliese van der Pol took the stage as Belle in the Broadway production Beauty and the Beast. Van der Pol would be the final Belle in this production, as the Broadway run was scheduled to end on July 29 after almost 5,500 performances. A star of Disney Channel’s Original Series That’s So Raven, van der Pol was also chosen for her numerous theater credits, including California productions of Evita, Oklahoma!, and The Nutcracker. This role was her Broadway debut, and she is the second former Disney star to play the role after Christy Carlson Romano.

March 22, 2005 – The Updated Soundtrack to the Animated Series Kim Possible is Released

On March 22, 2005, the soundtrack to the hit animated series Kim Possible was re-released through Walt Disney Records. An updated version of the original 2003 album, this version contained remixes of the theme song “Call Me, Beep Me! (The Kim Possible Song)” by Christina Milian, as well as a combination of songs from and inspired by the show. The artists featured include Disney artist (and voice of title character) Christy Carlson Romano, pop artist Aaron Carter, and band Smash Mouth.

January 31, 2015 – Disney Wins Twelve Awards at the 42nd Annie Awards

On January 31, 2015, the 42nd Annie Awards were held at the University of California, Los Angeles’s Royce Hall. Out of 38 nominations – many in the same category – Disney was awarded eleven awards, and one special achievement award for the Walt Disney Family Museum. Disney’s 54th animated feature Big Hero 6 was given 7 nominations, winning one for Animated Effects in an Animated Production. The short film Feast was awarded as the Best Animated Short Subject, while Gravity Falls was awarded as Best Animated TV/Broadcast Production for Children’s Audience. Disney Television Animation did very well at the awards, with Wander Over Yonder winning two and the Mickey Mouse short films winning six. The Walt Disney Family Museum won the Special Achievement Award for “recognizing the unique and significant impact on the art and industry of animation.”

January 27, 2004 – The Compilation Album Disneymania 2 is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On January 27, 2004, the second compilation album in the Disneymania series, entitled Disneymania 2, was released through Walt Disney Records. The album, like its predecessor, features pop covers of classic Disney favorites. Artists featured were Disney Channel star Hilary Duff, indie band They Might Be Giants, and the musical group Disney Channel Circle of Stars, which were Disney Channel stars gathered for the purpose of singing Disney covers. Several of the songs were used to promote Disney movies released on DVD or soundtracks for feature films. The album was successful, reaching a peak of 29 on the Billboard 200 chart and being certified gold by the RIAA.

January 19, 2001 – The Disney Channel Original Series Lizzie McGuire Premieres

On January 19, 2001, the Disney Channel Original Series Lizzie McGuire premiered on the Disney Channel. The series followed the adventures of 13-year-old Lizzie McGuire and her friends Gordo and Miranda, while an animated version of Lizzie gives her inner thoughts in the form of a soliloquy. The show was highly popular, with several merchandising deals and a feature film released in 2003. The series ran for two seasons with 65 episodes in total. During the show’s run, it was nominated for several awards, including an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program. The show was created by Terri Minsky, and starred Hilary Duff as Lizzie, Lalaine as Miranda, Adam Lamberg as Gordo, Jake Thomas as Matt, Hallie Todd as Jo, and Robert Carradine as Sam.

December 12, 2005 – The Cheetah Girls Song “Five More Days ‘til Christmas” Premieres on Radio Disney

On December 12, 2005, the second single of the Cheetah Girls’ first album and only holiday album Cheetah-licious Christmas, “Five More Days ‘til Christmas,” premiered on Radio Disney. Although officially recognized as their second single, and performed as such on the group’s tour, the single was never released as a digital download.
