October 21, 2003 – The Soundtrack to the Animated Feature Brother Bear is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On October 21, 2003, the soundtrack to Disney’s 44th Animated Feature Brother Bear was released to theaters. The soundtrack featured a score by Mark Mancina and Phil Collins, and original songs by Collins. Besides Collins, the album features performances by Tina Turner, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Oren Waters, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Oren Waters, and the Bulgarian Women’s Choir. One song, “Welcome,” was used as the theme song for the Disneyland parade Walt Disney’s Parade of Dreams. The album peaked at number 52 on the Billboard 200, while the song “Look Through My Eyes” charted at the number 5 position on the Adult Contemporary chart.

October 17, 2009 – The Disney Doorway to Dreams Store opens in New York

On October 17, 2009, the Disney Doorway to Dreams store opened in Long Island, New York at the Roosevelt Field Mall. Similar to the store of the same name in Chicago, the store educated and enticed potential Disney Vacation Club Members, with interactive features for adults and children alike. Information was provided for over 500 vacation locations across the globe, including the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The store closed on November 3, 2012.

October 13, 2008 – The 22nd Disney Legends Ceremonies Are Held

“Collectively, this group has enchanted millions, young and old around the world and it is a privilege to pay tribute to them today.”

On October 13, 2008, eleven new inductees were honored at the 22nd Disney Legends ceremonies. Held in the Disney Legends Plaza in Burbank, the Legends in attendance participated in a hand-print ceremony, with their bronzed prints being hung in the plaza. The ceremony was overseen by Disney President and CEO Bob Iger, with inductees including Barbara Walters, Frank Gifford, Wayne Allwine (voice of Mickey Mouse), Russi Taylor (voice of Minnie Mouse), Bob Booth (Imagineer), Neil Gallagher (Imagineer), Toshio Kagami (Director, Chairman, and CEO of the Oriental Land Company), Burny Mattinson (animator), Walt Peregoy (animator), Dorothea Redmond (Imagineer), and Oliver Wallace (musician).

October 11, 2005 – The Disney Princess Christmas Album is Released Through Walt Disney Records

“Christmas is coming for one and for all, good friends and family are coming to call.”

On October 11, 2005, the Disney Princess Christmas Album was released through Walt Disney Records. The album gave a Disney twist on several traditional Christmas carols, as well as a few original compositions, including “Christmas is Coming” sung by Disney Princesses, and “Beautiful” by Jim Brickman featuring Wayne Brady. The album was re-released in 2009 with the song “Christmas Eve Dinner” replacing “Beautiful.”

October 10, 2007 – The 2007 Disney Legends Ceremony Takes Place

On October 10, 2007, the 20th Disney Legends Ceremony took place in the Legends Plaza at the Walt Disney Studios. Among those honored were President of ABC Sports Roone Arledge, animator Art Babbit, Imagineer Carl Bongirno, dancer Marge Champion, animator Dick Huemer, executive vice president Ron Logan, animator Lucille Martin, ABC CEO Thomas Murphy, composer and musician Randy Newman, animator Floyd Norman, make-up artist Bob Schiffer, and archivist Dave Smith.

October 9, 2003 – The Dedication for the Epcot Attraction Mission: SPACE Takes Place

On October 9, 2003, the dedication for the Epcot attraction Mission: SPACE took place with a special ceremony. The attraction, which had a soft opening in June of that year, was a collaboration between Disney and NASA five years in the making. The opening included appearances by astronauts from several notable missions, NASA Administrator Sean O’Keefe, and CEO Michael Eisner, among others.

September 29, 2006 – Annual Passports are Introduced at Hong Kong Disneyland

On September 29, 2006, the Annual Passport for Hong Kong Disneyland was introduced. Known as the Magic Access card, guests can purchase one of three levels: Silver, Gold, or Platinum. Each level includes a different amount of park access, up to 20% off of hotel dining, and up to 10% in-park dining and merchandise discounts, among other perks.

September 27, 2003 – The Animation Art of Ron Clements Exhibit Opens at the Sioux City Arts Center

“I think kids who spend more time by themselves, they tend to use their imaginations more. I wrote stories and drew characters and did things like that.”

On September 27, 2003, the Sioux City Arts Center in Sioux City, Iowa, held its opening night reception for its newest exhibit “The Animation Art of Ron Clements.” The exhibit honored Disney animator and film director Ron Clements, and focused on his (at the time) five main films that he co-directed with John Musker: The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, and Treasure Planet. The stories of these five films are told through storyboards, cels, and sketches.

September 26, 2006 – The Christmas Album Acoustic Hearts of Winter is Released by Recording Artists Aly & AJ

“It’s the greatest time of year, and it’s here, help us celebrate it.”

On September 26, 2006, the second studio album by recording duo Aly & AJ was released through Hollywood Records. The album features cover versions of traditional Christmas carols, as well as two original songs by the duo and song writers Antonina Armato and Tim James. The album fared well on the Billboard charts, with the original song “Greatest Time of Year” being used as the promotional song for the live-action film The Santa Clause 3. It peaked at number 78 on the Billboard 200, and overall sold 110,000 copies.

September 14, 2001 – The Attraction Who Wants to Be a Millionaire – Play It Opens in Disney’s California Adventure

“Where in the world can YOU get into the hot seat?”

On September 14, 2001, the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire – Play It interactive attraction opened in Disney’s California Adventure (DCA) park. Based on the hit ABC game show hosted by Regis Philbin, contestants would play at certain intervals, competing for points that could be redeemed for prizes, including the grand prize of a Disney Cruise Line vacation for four. The DCA attraction was similar to the Walt Disney World, which opened on April 7, 2001. A Fastpass was available for the attraction throughout its run, until it closed on August 20, 2004.
