May 13, 2008 – The Disney Tribute Album Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust is Released by Singer Kerry Butler

“Fathers were born to pay, and princesses get their way.”

On May 13, 2008, the Disney tribute album Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust by Broadway singer and recording artist Kerry Butler was released through P.S. Classics. This album showcased Butler’s favorite Disney songs, along with two songs that were originally unreleased: “Call Me a Princess” originally intended for Aladdin, and “This Only Happens in the Movies,” which Alan Menken had written for Who Framed Roger Rabbit; this recording of the latter was its inaugural recording of the cut track. Butler’s ties to Disney also go back to 1995 when she played Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast until 1997.

May 11, 2004 – The Compilation Album Mega Movie Mix is Released Through Walt Disney Records

“I’m Supergirl, and I’m here to save the world, but I wanna know who’s gonna save me?”

On May 11, 2004, the compilation album Mega Movie Mix was released through Walt Disney Records. The album features from Disney’s live action films, either in theaters or premiering on Disney Channel; this includes songs such as “Miracles Happen” by Myra from The Princess Diaries, and “Cinderella” by The Cheetah Girls from their Disney Channel Original Movie.

May 10, 2005 – Ollie Johnston Drives the Marie E. at Disneyland

On May 10, 2005, a special ceremony was held in Disneyland for animator and member of the Nine Old Men Ollie Johnston. Under the ruse of receiving a special honor for contributing to the Carolwood organization, Johnson was surprised to find that his locomotive, the Marie E., was on the Disneyland tracks to allow him one last ride. Johnson, along with Ward Kimball and Walt Disney, were train enthusiasts, but in his older age, Johnson had to sell his train as he was unable to operate it. Sold to none other than John Lasseter, Lasseter was able to find a way to bring it to the park in a special ceremony. Friends and family were gathered at Frontierland station to watch Johnson ride his beloved train one last time.

May 8, 2000 – Elephant Journey Premieres in Syndication

On May 8, 2000, the newest New True-Life Adventure entitled Elephant Journey premiered in syndication. The New True-Life Adventures were meant to be a continuation of the original True-Life Adventure series that premiered in theaters, and Elephant Journey was the second of this new series to be released. The special followed a pack of pachyderms as they traveled through northwestern Nambia.

May 5, 2005 – The Attraction Soarin’ Opens in Epcot

“An exhilarating international adventure”

On May 5, 2005, the film attraction Soarin’ opened in Epcot’s The Land pavilion. Similar to the original Soarin’ Over California attraction that opened in Disneyland in 2001, the attraction seats guests in a contraption that gives the illusion that they are “soaring” over majestic views of California that they view on an 80-foot IMAX projection screen. The attraction was changed in 2016 to show guests views of the world rather than just California, including views of the Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, or the Great Wall of China.

May 4, 2004 – Aida Announces Closing Date

Aida is a show that has delighted us and defied all expectations.” – Thomas Schumacher, President of Disney Theatrical Productions

On May 4, 2004, the Broadway show Aida announced that it would be closing on September 5 of that year. The show, open since March 23, 2000, also announced the return of actor Adam Pascal, who originated the role of Radames, who would stay with the show until its closing. By 2004, Aida was the only show to still be running from the 1999-2000 theatrical season. When the show closed, it ran for 1,852 performances in the Palace Theatre.

April 30, 2008 – The Jonas Brothers Try the New Toy Story Mania Attraction

On April 30, 2008, Disney Channel stars and popular band The Jonas Brothers took a spin on the new Toy Story Mania attraction in Walt Disney World, which was set to open on May 31, 2008. The band was in the park filming Disney Channel Games, an Olympic-style event for Disney Channel stars to compete against each other. Along with the Jonas Brothers, stars Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and the Cheetah Girls were also on hand to film the show and check out the attractions in Hollywood Studios.

April 28, 2006 – The 2005 Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade Wins a Daytime Emmy

“The 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards is a presentation of the National Television Academy in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.”

On April 28, 2006, the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California. ABC won four awards, including one for Outstanding Special Class Special for The 2005 Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade. This was ABC’s first, and only, win in this category as of 2017. Among those recognized for their contribution to the parade were co-hosts Regis Philbin, Kelly Ripa, and Ryan Seacrest.

April 25, 2008 – Former Disney CEO is Honored on Hollywood Walk of Fame

“So, I accept this for Frank [Wells], for Bob [Iger], and John [Travolta], and for all the cast members of the Walt Disney Company, and I thank you all for coming out on not too hot a day.”

On April 25, 2008, former Disney CEO Michael Eisner was honored with the 2,361st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his part in Disney’s comeback in the era known as the Disney Renaissance. Eisner, whose tenure at Disney lasted from 1984 to 2005, was joined at his ceremony by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Leron Gubler, current CEO of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger, actor John Travolta, and Mickey Mouse.

April 21, 2006 – The U.S. Postal Service Issues New Art of Disney Stamps

“With this stamp pane, the U.S. Postal Service honors the art of romance as imagined by Walt Disney and his studio animators.”

On April 21, 2006, the United States Postal Services issued new sheets of the popular Art of Disney stamps, featuring classic Disney characters representing a common theme. This third set in the series is titled The Art of Disney: Romance, followed the other two themes of friendship and celebrations, and features Disney couples Cinderella and Prince Charming, Lady and the Tramp, Beauty and the Beast, and of course, Mickey and Minnie. The stamps were issued in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and were designed by David Pacheco from Burbank, California. The stamps were issued as 39 cent commemorative stamps.
