July 8, 2007 – The Broadway Musical Tarzan Closes

On July 8, 2007, the Broadway version of the animated feature film Tarzan closed after 35 previews and 486 shows at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Having premiered with mixed reviews, the musical failed to find its footing with audiences. Although the Broadway version ended with a loss, Tarzan managed to find its audience within the Netherlands and Germany.

July 7, 2014 – The Animated Series The 7D Premieres on Disney X D

“Hi ho, here we go now, hi ho, go with the flow now.”

On July 7, 2014, the animated series The 7D premiered on Disney X D. Based loosely on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the series takes place in the land of Jollywood, where the Seven Dwarfs are tasked with saving the kingdom from the evil and inept villains Grim and Hildy Gloom. The show ran for 44 episodes within two seasons. It starred Billy West as Bashful, Bill Farmer as Doc, Dee Bradley Baker as Dopey, Maurice LaMarche as Grumpy, Kevin Michael Richardson as Happy, Stephen Stanton as Sleepy, and Scott Menville as Sneezy.

July 6, 1997 – The Grand Floridian Restaurant Flagler’s Closes

“Specialties include Veal Scaloppini with Marsala Wine Sauce and Sauteed Shrimp.”

On July 6, 1997, the Grand Floridian restaurant Flagler’s closed. Open since 1988, the restaurant specialized in Italian cuisine. After it closed, it was replaced with Citricos, a restaurant that had a Mediterranean-inspired menu.

July 5, 2007 – The King’s Gallery Closes in Walt Disney World

On July 5, 2007, the fine art merchandise stop The King’s Gallery closed in Walt Disney World. Selling such pieces as the glassware created by the Arribas Brothers, the store was located within Cinderella’s Castle, and was closed to allow the creation of Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The artwork within the store was repurposed to fill the halls of the Main Street Cinema.

July 4, 1994 – The Attraction Les Mystères du Nautilus Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Continue your quest through Discoveryland and navigate your crew to Jules Verne’s Nautilus for a tour with a tentacular surprise.”

On July 4, 1994, the walk-through attraction Les Mystères du Nautilus opened in Disneyland Paris. Based on the live-action feature film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, this Discoveryland attraction allows guests to board Captain Nemo’s submarine, the Nautilus, and learn the secrets of what lies below the surface of the water.

July 3, 1998 – Innoventions Opens in Disneyland

On July 3, 1998, the Innoventions attraction opened in Disneyland. Housed in the former Carousel of Progress attraction area, it was a two-story exhibit that featured up and coming innovations in areas such as computer science, robotics, and even regular home chores. The area was enhanced in 2013 to include the characters from Marvel, featuring Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. The area was officially closed on March 31, 2015.

July 2, 1967 – Tomorrowland Terrace Opens in Disneyland

“Grab your dancing shoes and head to the hoppin’est place on earth where you can strut your stuff weekend nights all summer long!”

On July 2, 1967, the dining area Tomorrowland Terrace opened in Disneyland. Not only was it a fast-food facility, the area also had live bands and a dancefloor, with a stage for the bands that could be raised to meet the guests at the restaurant level. Similar versions of this facility were opened in Walt Disney World (which closed in 1994) and Tokyo Disneyland. The Disneyland version closed in June, 2001, and later opened as Club Buzz; it has since reopened in that space with different varieties of bands playing every night.

July 1, 1996 – The Nightclub Atlantic Dance Opens in Walt Disney World

“Get into the groove at this hoppin’ nightclub that plays the hottest songs from the ‘80s, ‘90s, and today.”

On July 1, 1996, the nightclub Atlantic Dance opened in Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk area. Located right next to the balcony overlooking Crescent Lake, guests can take a breather between dances to look at the sunset over the water. The club has experimented with different dance styles over the years, ranging from swing dance to salsa. It is open to guests aged 21 and older.

June 30, 2001 – Club Buzz – Lightyear’s Above the Rest Opens in Disneyland

“To infinity, and beyond!”

On June 30, 2001, the outdoor stage area Club Buzz – Lightyear’s Above the Rest opened in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. Formerly Tomorrowland Terrace, the area was renamed and redone to feature a stage show and dance party featuring Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story franchise. The live show featured Buzz fighting his nemesis Emperor Zurg. The area closed in 2006, becoming Tomorrowland Terrace once again, and being used as a training ground for the Jedi Training Academy.

June 29, 1996 – Donald’s Boat Opens in Mickey’s Toontown Fair

“…Donald’s boat may make you never want to be a landlubber again!”

On June 29, 1996, the Donald’s Boat attraction opened in the Mickey’s Toontown Fair area of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park. The attraction gave guests the opportunity to explore Donald Duck’s houseboat home, viewing his mementos and priceless treasures, as well as a few other surprises and activities along the way. The attraction was closed on February 11, 2011, but versions still exist in Disneyland’s Toontown and Tokyo Disneyland’s Toontown.
