April 15, 1983 – The Restaurant Royal Street Veranda Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On April 15, 1983, the quick service restaurant Royal Street Veranda opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Adventureland area. Sponsored by Kirin, this juice bar provides Kirin lemon soda, apple tea soda, and mix orange soda. The stop also features specialty candy and decorated cases.

April 12, 1992 – The Restaurant Last Chance Café Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Trek your little outlaws for a place to lay low and fill up on some tasty Tex-Mex tucker.”

On April 12, 1992, the quick service restaurant Last Chance Café opened in Disneyland Paris’ Frontierland area. The restaurant features Western-themed fare such as pork sausage with Cajun spices, chicken wings, and potatoes with chili con carne.

March 16, 2002 – The Restaurant Backlot Express Opens in Walt Disney Studios Paris

“Dine amongst Disney blockbusters in this industrial props warehouse serving up a range of hot and cold dishes.”

On March 16, 2002, the quick-service restaurant Backlot Express opened in the Walt Disney Studios Paris park of Disneyland Paris. Similar to the original restaurant that opened in Walt Disney World’s Disney-MGM Studios park, it served fast versions of American dishes, including sandwiches and pizza. The restaurant was revised in June 2009, when it became the Backlot Express Restaurant, and was themed to be a props storage room.

March 4, 1962 – The Restaurant Don DeFore’s Silver Banjo Closes in Disneyland

“Down on New Orleans Street Over in Frontierland Near Tom Sawyer Island is Don DeFore’s Silver Banjo in Enchanting Disneyland. Finest Barbecue this side of the Mississippi!”

On March 4, 1962, the Frontierland food facility Don Defore’s Silver Banjo closed in Disneyland. Opening on June 15, 1957, the restaurant was named after the actor Don DeFore, who was best known for playing “Thorny” Thornberry on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriett and for playing George Baxter on Hazel. The facility mostly provided barbecue dishes. It was closed to allow the expansion of the Aunt Jemima Pancake House.

February 13, 1993 – Lumiere’s Kitchen Opens in Walt Disney World

On February 13, 1993, the quick service restaurant Lumiere’s Kitchen opened in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park. Replacing the Black Cauldron-themed restaurant Gurgi’s Munchies & Crunchies, the restaurant served general quick-service fare, such as chicken nuggets and grilled cheese. The restaurant closed on April 30, 2006, and was replaced by the Village Fry Shoppe.

February 8, 2001 – The Quick-Service Restaurant Award Wieners Opens in Disney California Adventure

“Introducing an all-star ensemble of gourmet, street-style hot dogs and sausages.”

On February 8, 2001, the quick-service restaurant Award Wieners opened in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area of Disney California Adventure. The restaurant sells gourmet hot dogs, such as the BBQ Crunch Dog, and the Spicy City Dog, as well as specialty fries and seasonal offerings.

February 6, 2011 – The Quick Service Restaurant Tortuga Tavern Opens in Walt Disney World

“Steal away to this delightful pirate haunt and prepare for the tastiest grub this side of Port Royal!”

On February 6, 2011, the quick service restaurant Tortuga Tavern opened in the Magic Kingdom Park of Walt Disney World, near the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Replacing the former El Pirata y el Perico Restaurante, the restaurant’s theme was updated to fit the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The restaurant features a variety of entrees, such as a chipotle barbecue short rib, short-rib topped hot dog, and a turkey leg.

January 25, 2017 – 21 Royal Opens for Reservations

“Dine in an ambiance of luxury, inspiration and innovation.”

On January 25, 2017, the newest exclusive restaurant 21 Royal opened for reservations. Located above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction on Royal Street in New Orleans Square of Disneyland Park, it was designed in the opulence of the Empire style that was made popular in 19th century New Orleans. Parties of up to 12 guests can attend this exclusive dinner event, and are given a VIP escort of the restaurant; guests are also taken to a private balcony for desert and a special view of the park’s nighttime entertainment.

January 18, 2016 – The Quick-Service Restaurant Pizza Planet Arcade Closes

“Today…serving your local Star Cluster…”

On January 18, 2016, the quick-service restaurant Pizza Planet Arcade closed. Located on the Streets of America in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park, the restaurant was themed after the restaurant of the same name from the Toy Story series of films, and served pizza and salads. The area was originally slated to be a Muppet-themed restaurant, but this changed after the original deal between Jim Henson Productions and the Walt Disney Company fell through; after Pizza Planet Arcade closed in 2016, the place then became the quick-service pizza restaurant PizzeRizzo, themed after the Muppet character Rizzo the Rat.

January 7

January 7, 2015 – The Taste Pilots’ Grill Closes in Disney’s California Adventure

“Where Great Food IS Rocket Science!”

On January 7, 2015, the Taste Pilots’ Grill closed in Disney’s California Adventure Park’s Condor Flats area. The quick service restaurant opened on February 8, 2001, and offered American-style fare with flight-based puns for names, such as the Alpha-Bravo-Chili Burger, the Hot Wing Squadron, and the Aer-O-Space Onion Rings. The restaurant was themed after a desert airfield, but seemed to be out of place in the park. After the restaurant closed, the place was reopened as the Smokejumpers Grill, and was merged with the Grizzly Peak area.
