February 18, 2008 – Disney’s Vero Beach Honors Baseball Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda

“Disney’s Vero Beach has enjoyed a tremendous relationship with Tommy Lasorda and the Los Angeles Dodgers through the years, and we’re absolutely thrilled to name such a central part of our resort in Mr. Lasorda’s honor.” – Sonya Deese-Byrnes, General Manager of Disney Vacation Club Resorts

On February 18, 2008, a special ceremony was held at Disney’s Vero Beach resort, a Disney Vacation Club resort in Walt Disney World. This ceremony honored former Los Angeles Dodgers’ former manager and Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda by renaming the recreation field of the resort as Lasorda Field; the Dodgers have used Vero Beach as a training area, with the Dodgertown training complex opening in 1948. Lasorda was on hand at the renaming ceremony to throw out the first pitch on the field, and was joined at the ceremony by several representatives from the Walt Disney Company, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and children from the local Boys & Girls Club.

December 29, 1974 – John Lennon Signs Papers at Walt Disney World Dissolving The Beatles

On December 29, 1974, it is widely believed that John Lennon, who was staying on vacation at Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort, signed the paperwork that effectively dissolved the partnership of the band the Beatles. Although the rest of the band had signed the papers at Apple Headquarters, Lennon had been a no-show at the meeting, and instead had gone to celebrate Christmas at Walt Disney World with his secretary and lover May Pang.

December 14, 2003 – Everything POP Shopping and Dining Opens in Disney’s Pop Century Resort

“Sate appetites large and small with delicious dishes from a variety of tempting food stations.”

On December 14, 2003, the shopping center and food court area of Walt Disney World’s Pop Century Resort , known as Everything POP Shopping and Dining, opened. Guests can wander through and get a meal at a variety of quick-service food areas, as well as purchase a variety of Disney merchandise.

November 29, 2009 – Sleigh Rides are Offered at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

“…a fire-engine red sleigh with garland and holiday lights will take you through parts of the 700-acre backwoods resort.”

On November 29, 2009, the first sleigh rides were offered at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground at Walt Disney World. Part of the park’s holiday offerings, the sleigh ride began from the Blacksmith’s Shop in the Settlement area and took guests through the scenic woods for a 25-minute ride. The ride cost $60 per group, and has become a popular holiday tradition for the resort.

October 12, 2017 -The Villages Nature Paris Project is Unveiled

“Explore all five immersive worlds and the unforgettable experiences they promise.”

On October 12, 2017, the joint project between Euro Disney and Pierre & Vacances-Center Parcs, known as Villages Nature Paris, was announced and opened. Located minutes from Disneyland Paris, this project was years in the making, and provides guests with an immersive, natural experience in five areas: the water park Aqualagon, BelleVie Farm, the five-acre Extraordinary Gardens, the Lakeside Promenade, and the Forest of Legends. The areas provide a variety of activities, including zip-lining, breadmaking, and wine tasting. The idea of the Villages Nature Paris was to promote what is known as “sustainable tourism,” as the 300-acre area seeks to reduce its carbon footprint, and protect the wildlife around it, through a variety of green methods.

August 11, 1994 – The Center Court Unit of Walt Disney World’s All-Star Resorts Opens

“Go the distance and don’t be afraid to celebrate your inner fan amid sporty décor starring some of your favorite Disney characters.”

On August 11, 1994, the final unit of Walt Disney World’s All-Star Resort opened. Called Center Court, and themed after the sport of tennis, it was the fifth unit for what would become the All-Stars Sports Resort. The unit of the resort features statues of Donald and his nephews playing a heated tennis match.

August 3, 2014 – The Four Seasons Opens in Walt Disney World’s Golden Oak Community

“A Dream Come True”

On August 3, 2014, the Four Seasons resort opened within the Golden Oak residential community, located in Walt Disney World. The 298-acre space was originally sold to Four Seasosn Hotels and Resorts on August 25, 2008; the agreement was for Four Seasons to build a hotel, time share homes called Residence Club, an 18-hole championship golf course, and a series of vacation homes. The resort was designed by Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo, and featured 444-rooms, along with four restaurants: Capa, Ravello, PB&G, and Plancha. Ravello also features a character-dining experience for guests.

August 1, 1997 – The Pepper Market Food Court Opens in Walt Disney World

“Find something for everyone at this food court.”

On August 1, 1997, the food court Pepper Market opened in Walt Disney World’s Coronado Springs Resort. With a menu featuring American and Mexican-inspired dishes, the restaurant is styled with Central American décor, including towering statues of Central American deities. Dishes range from Mexican specialties, chef specials, and pizza.

July 17, 2017 – The Copper Creek Villas & Cabins Opens in Walt Disney World

“Consider this your new go-to vacation base camp when pining for serene surroundings located just around the river bend from Magic Kingdom park.”

On July 17, 2017, the Disney Vacation Club Resort Copper Creek Villas & Cabins opened in Walt Disney World’s Wilderness Lodge Resort. With décor inspired by the history of the Pacific Northwest, the resort features several kinds of accommodations, including 26 waterfront cabins. Located on Bay Lake, the resort features two kinds of pools for guests to enjoy: the Copper Creek Springs heated pool, and the Boulder Ridge Cove pool. The resort also features several dining options, including the Artist Point restaurant and the Whispering Canyon Café.

May 31, 2012 – Landscape of Flavors Opens in Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

“The amazing world of creativity and innovation of Disney animation will draw you into Landscape of Flavors – five mini-restaurants under one roof at Disney’s Art of Animation resort.”

On May 31, 2012, the food court area Landscape of Flavors opened in Walt Disney World’s Art of Animation resort. Comprised of five stations, the menu ranges from pizza and pasta, to Mongolian grilled fish. The menu is also separated into breakfast versus lunch and dinner. The area’s decor is inspired by the landscape art for the animated feature film The Lion King.
