July 14, 2006 – The Legend of Mythica Show Begins in Tokyo DisneySea

“Sea of dreams, sea of wonder, sea of dreams 夢は素直に笑う時に分かるもの.”

On July 14, 2006, in conjunction with the 5th anniversary of the park, the harbor show The Legend of Mythica began its run in Tokyo DisneySea. The show, replacing the Porto Paradiso Water Carnival, featured an original mythology-inspired story, with Disney characters acting as spirit companions to mythological creatures. The show also featured a score by Alan Silvestri, and an original song for the anniversary celebrations entitled “Sea of Dreams” by Japanese recording artist Misia. The show ended its run on September 7, 2014.

April 26, 1990 – The Mickey’s Magical TV World Show Opens at Mickey’s Starland in Walt Disney World

“What’s all the fuss about Gummi magic? So far, it’s nothing but tricks!”

On April 26, 1990, the live show Mickey’s Magical TV World opened in the Mickey’s Starland area of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park. The show featured characters from the popular Saturday morning cartoons, including Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears, Ducktales, and Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers; other popular shows were added and some were taken out through the years of the show. The musical stage show, hosted by Mickey Mouse, lasted about fifteen minutes. The show closed on March 11, 1996.

February 17, 2012 – The Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline Show Begins

“Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline opens for business today at Disney California Adventure park.”

On February 17, 2012, the new show Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline began in Disney’s California Adventure park in Condor Flats. The show uses song from the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s to create a retro-style show that can be enjoyed by old and young guests alike, featuring standards such as “Come Fly With Me,” “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” and “Lady of Spain.” There is also a second medley of songs featuring Disney songs that featuring flying, including “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins. The show also features a special talking and singing Minnie Mouse, appearing for the first time in Disneyland’s history. The show ended its run on October 20, 2013.

July 26, 2013 – The Live Stage Show Disney Junior Live on Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure Begins

“The…Disney Junior Live on Tour show is coming to the stage of a theater near you, and you and your kids won’t want to miss out on the fun!”

On July 26, 2013, the touring live stage show Disney Junior Live on Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure began its run in Savannah, Georgia. The show featured popular Disney Junior shows Sofia the First and Jake and the Never Land Pirates in a musical spectacular. The show featured special appearances by Disney characters Cinderella and Peter Pan. The show is currently touring around the United States.

July 4, 1999 – The Bear in the Big Blue House Show Premieres in Disney-MGM Studios

On July 4, 1999, the Bear in the Big Blue House Show premiered in the Disney-MGM Studios Park in Walt Disney World. Based on the hit Playhouse Disney show produced by Jim Henson Productions, the show featured the characters of Bear, with his friends Ojo, Treelo, Pip, Pop, Shadow, and Luna. It was housed on Soundstage 5, and the 15-minute show had guests sitting on a carpeted floor. The show ended its run on August 4, 2001, and was replaced with Playhouse Disney – Live on Stage, which included several characters from this show.

July 3, 2004 – The Live Show One Man’s Dream II – The Magic Lives On Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On July 3, 2004, the live show One Man’s Dream II – The Magic Lives On opened in Tokyo Disneyland. A revised version of the One Man’s Dream show that ran from April 15, 1988 to September 3, 1995, the 30-minute show was a musical spectacular that took guests through magical scenes from several Disney films, honoring the imagination of Walt Disney. This show was unique in the aspect that it began with black-and-white scenery and costumes before exploding into a wonderful world of color. The show freatured characters such as Snow White, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan.

July 2, 1999 – The Live Show Tarzan Rocks Opens in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park

“Two worlds, where primitive meets civilized, where man and beast coexist as one.”

On July 2, 1999, the live-action show Tarzan Rocks opened in the Theater in the Wild in the DinoLand U.S.A. area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. The half-hour show, based on the 1999 animated feature film Tarzan and sponsored by McDonald’s, featured several types of performances, including dancers, inline skaters, and gymnasts in all areas of the theater. Songs from the show were performed by a rock band that occupied a scaffolding on the stage, with the singers acting as narrators for the “Two Worlds Concert Tour.” Halfway through the show, the characters Tarzan and Jane appear to act out scenes from the film before performing complex aerial acrobatics. After this, the stage is taken over by Terk, who starts “Trashing’ the Camp” with audience participation. The show then ends with a musical and dance spectacular to the song “You’ll Be in My Heart.” The show closed on January 21, 2006.

May 23, 2013 – The Premiere Event of Mickey and the Magical Map Takes Place

“Join Mickey for a live musical show that takes you to exciting worlds of imagination!”

On May 23, 2013, the premiere event of the new Fantasyland Theater show Mickey and the Magical Map took place in Disneyland. This special showing of the new live-action show was for invited guests and members of the media, with the premiere for the public taking place on May 25th. Almost two-years in the making, the show stars Mickey Mouse, wishing to become one of Yen Sid’s mapmakers, who takes guests through several lands of imagination, including the Adventure Islands, Dream Village, Celebration Peaks, and Friendship Woods, occupied with several favorite Disney characters such as Pocahontas, Tiana, and Mulan. The show takes place in the revamped Fantasyland Theater, which is now equipped with technical upgrades including LED screens and special effects. For this show, over 50 singers and dancers were chosen from over 900 performers. The map, made of six sections weighing at over 9,000 pounds each, uses over a million pixels for the images of each magical land.

March 15, 1999 – The Live Show Disney’s Doug Live Opens at Disney-MGM Studios

On March 15, 1999, the live stage show Disney’s Doug Live opened at Walt Disney World’s Disney-MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios). It replaced SuperStar Television at the ABC TV Theater, and was based on the Disney cartoon Doug, which Disney acquired in 1996. The live show featured actors portraying the well-known characters, including the titular character, his crush Patti Mayonaise, and his dog Porkchop. The story for the show consisted of Doug winning tickets to see his favorite band, The Beets, and trying to ask Patti to accompany him, although many of his attempts go awry. The show closed on May 12, 2001.

September 16, 1991 – The Live Show Muppets on Location: Days of Swine and Roses Begins in Disney-MGM Studios

On September 16, 1991, the live show Muppets on Location: Days of Swine and Roses began its run in Walt Disney World’s Disney-MGM Studios. The show ran behind the area of the Muppet*Vision 3D attraction, and ran until January 23, 1994. Featuring a plot about the Muppets filming a movie, the characters included favorites Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo the Great, Bean Bunny, and the Electric Mayhem. The characters would interact with the audience during the show, signing autographs and helping amp up audience participation.
