June 12, 1975 – The Walt Disney Story Featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln Opens in Disneyland

“Encounter the Great Emancipator as he returns to tell the tale of generations past and share his stirring vision of the future.”

On June 12, 1975, the popular Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attraction returned to Disneyland and reopened as The Walt Disney Story Featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. The attraction originally closed on January 1, 1973, to be replaced by The Walt Disney Story. However, the attraction was brought back due to the demand from guests. The original attraction was created for the New York World’s Fair, presented at the State of Illinois pavilion, and opened in Disneyland on July 18, 1965. Since its combination with The Walt Disney Story, the attraction remains open and remains one of the most popular attractions within the park.

June 9, 2007 – The Attraction Cars Quatre Roues Rallye Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Rev up your engines and zoom alongside Lightning McQueen in this speedy circuit from the world of Cars.

On June 9, 2007, the Toon Studios attraction Cars Quatre Roues Rallye opened in Disneyland Paris’ Walt Disney Studios Park. Based on the Pixar film franchise Cars, guests board cars that spin around in a Radiator Springs service station area; the spinning ability is similar to the Mad Tea Party attraction found in most Disney parks.

June 6, 2014 – The Marketplace Co-Op Opens in Downtown Disney

“Discover unique new shops, products, and retail concepts being tested in this shopper’s paradise in Disney Springs.”

On June 6, 2014, the Marketplace Co-Op area opened in Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs). The area serves as a merchandise hub where several boutiques come together to sell their wares. The current lineup includes Cherry Tree Lane (a Disney-inspired designer line), Twenty Eight & Main (an exclusive collection for men), D-Tech on Demand (accessories for smartphones), Disney Centerpiece (home furnishing collections), and the WonderGround Gallery (a collection and display of Disney-inspired art).

June 5, 2010 – The Main Street Electrical Parade Returns to Walt Disney World

“In thousands of sparkling lights, and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds: the Main Street Electrical Parade!”

On June 5, 2010, popular nighttime parade Main Street Electrical Parade returned to Walt Disney World. Originally appearing in Disneyland starting on June 17, 1972, versions of the parade also made appearances in Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland. Prior to its final Walt Disney World appearance starting on June 5, 2010, the parade operated seasonally at Disneyland. After closing in Walt Disney World on October 9, 2016, the parade went back to Disneyland for a limited engagement, starting January 20, 2017.

June 3, 2011 – The Attraction The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure Opens in Disney’s California Adventure

“Journey under the sea for a whimsical musical adventure awash with scenes from  the animated Disney classic.”

On June 3, 2011, the dark ride attraction The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure opened in Disney California Adventure Park. Guests board a clamshell version of the Omnimover and head “under the sea” to explore musical scenes from the popular animated feature film, including versions of “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and “Kiss the Girl.” A version of this attraction opened in Walt Disney World’s New Fantasyland expansion on December 6, 2012.

June 1, 1997 – The Disneyland Parade The Lion King Celebration Ends

“Oh, I just can’t wait to be king!”

On June 1, 1997, the Lion King Celebration parade ended its run in Disneyland. The parade, starting on July 1, 1994, was notable for being the first parade to feature Audio-Animatronic figures outside of stationary attractions. It was also a combination parade and stage show, as the parade would stop at various intervals on the route and perform songs from the film, ending each performance with a version of “Circle of Life” while an Audio-Animatronic Simba let out a roar from the Pride Rock float. The parade also featured actors dressed as birds performing acrobatic stunts and remote-controlled animals.

May 31, 2012 – The Ink & Paint Shop Opens in Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

On May 31, 2012, the general merchandise store Ink & Paint Shop opened in Walt Disney World’s Art of Animation Resort. Stylized like an ink and paint repository, complete with giant colorful paint pots, the store provides a variety of Disney-themed merchandise ranging from apparel, to toys, to keychains.

May 28, 2016 – The Nighttime Show The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic Premieres at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

On May 28, 2016, the limited-engagement nighttime show The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic premiered at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. The show featured clips from the live-action feature film version of The Jungle Book, projected onto massive curtains of water, accompanied by live music, special effects, and a variety of performers. The music in the show was reimagined, Indian-inspired arrangements of popular songs from the film, including “The Bare Necessities” and “I Wan’na Be Like You.”

May 27, 2017 – The Merchandise Shop Windtraders Opens in Walt Disney World

“Discover exotic merchandise and souvenirs celebrating the flora, fauna, and culture of Pandora.”

On May 27, 2017, the specialty merchandise store Windtraders opened in Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Park, in the Pandora – The World of Avatar land. The store sells Avatar-themed merchandise, including Alpha Centauri Expeditions apparel, science kits, and interactive banshee toys.

May 25, 1983 – The Specialty Store Mickey’s Christmas Chalet Opens in Disneyland

On May 25, 1983, the specialty Christmas store Mickey’s Christmas Chalet opened in Disneyland’s Fantasyland area. The shop sold Disney-themed Christmas ornaments and décor year round until it closed on May 17, 1987. The store could be seen as a promotional shop for the featurette Mickey’s Christmas Carol, which was released in December of 1983.
