June 3, 2011 – The Attraction The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure Opens in Disney’s California Adventure

“Journey under the sea for a whimsical musical adventure awash with scenes from  the animated Disney classic.”

On June 3, 2011, the dark ride attraction The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure opened in Disney California Adventure Park. Guests board a clamshell version of the Omnimover and head “under the sea” to explore musical scenes from the popular animated feature film, including versions of “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and “Kiss the Girl.” A version of this attraction opened in Walt Disney World’s New Fantasyland expansion on December 6, 2012.

May 31, 2012 – The Ink & Paint Shop Opens in Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

On May 31, 2012, the general merchandise store Ink & Paint Shop opened in Walt Disney World’s Art of Animation Resort. Stylized like an ink and paint repository, complete with giant colorful paint pots, the store provides a variety of Disney-themed merchandise ranging from apparel, to toys, to keychains.

May 30, 2011 – American Idol Winner Scotty McCreery Rides in Hollywood Studios Gala Parade

On May 30, 2011, to celebrate his win as the newest American Idol, Scotty McCreery rode down the streets of Hollywood Studios in a special gala parade, accompanied by Mickey Mouse. The parade ended in front of The American Idol Experience attraction, where McCreery treated guests to a rendition of his hit song “I Love You This Big.” He later surprised fans by making a surprise appearance in front of the attraction’s audience.

May 28, 2016 – The Nighttime Show The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic Premieres at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

On May 28, 2016, the limited-engagement nighttime show The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic premiered at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. The show featured clips from the live-action feature film version of The Jungle Book, projected onto massive curtains of water, accompanied by live music, special effects, and a variety of performers. The music in the show was reimagined, Indian-inspired arrangements of popular songs from the film, including “The Bare Necessities” and “I Wan’na Be Like You.”

May 27, 2017 – The Merchandise Shop Windtraders Opens in Walt Disney World

“Discover exotic merchandise and souvenirs celebrating the flora, fauna, and culture of Pandora.”

On May 27, 2017, the specialty merchandise store Windtraders opened in Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Park, in the Pandora – The World of Avatar land. The store sells Avatar-themed merchandise, including Alpha Centauri Expeditions apparel, science kits, and interactive banshee toys.

May 24, 2017 – The Captain’s Grille Closes in Walt Disney World

On May 24, 2017, the Captain’s Grille restaurant closed in Walt Disney World’s Yacht Club Resort. It opened on January 1, 2008, replacing the Yacht Club Galley, and featured classic seafood dishes that matched the nautical theme of the resort. It served breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with dishes ranging from smoked salmon on a toasted bagel, New England-style lobster roll, and buttermilk fried rock shrimp. The restaurant was replaced by the Ale & Compass Restaurant on November 4, 2017.

May 20, 2015 – The Legacy Collection: Disneyland is Released Through Walt Disney Records

“To all who come to this happy place, welcome. Disneyland is your land.”

On May 20, 2015, the eighth entry in the Legacy Collection series, entitled The Legacy Collection: Disneyland, was released exclusively at Disneyland Resort to celebrate the park’s 60th anniversary. The release featured three discs on music and audio featured at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure attractions, ranging from the likes of “Let’s Dance at Disneyland” to “Fantasmic!” The album also features a 24-page booklet with liner notes that provide the historical background about some of the park’s most beloved attractions. The album was generally released on August 21, 2015.

May 15, 2016 – The Pastry Shop Amorette’s Patisserie Opens in Disney Springs

“Saunter over to this artsy yet sophisticated pastry shop and set your eyes on an exquisite gallery of goodies…”

On May 15, 2016, the high-end pastry shop Amorette’s Patisserie opened in town center section of Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs area. Not only can guests purchase a variety of gourmet sweet treats, ranging from New York cheesecake to an avant-garde (a chocolate chiffon cake and chocolate crumble), but a range of crêpes and champagne. Guests can also learn from the expert pâtissiers how to decorate a Mickey Mouse character cake.

May 14, 2016 – Disney Dollars Cease Being Sold in Disney Parks

“Disney Dollars may be spent or collected and saved as souvenirs and are redeemable at any time before or after any period of inactivity.”

On May 14, 2016, the use of Disney Dollars ends in all Disney parks. First offered on May 5, 1987, the Disney-based currency were able to be purchased and used at a variety of park locations, including ticketing locations, food stations, and merchandise areas; the use was then expanded to use in Disney Stores. Guests could buy the currency with credit cards and cashier’s checks. The bills were offered in three denominations: $1 (featuring Mickey Mouse), $5 (featuring Goofy), and $10 (featuring Minnie); the Minnie Mouse $10 began to be offered in late 1989, while $1 and $5 were redesigned earlier that year. Although Disney Dollars are no longer being sold, they are still accepted at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and select Disney Stores.

May 12, 2018 – The Shop DisneyStyle Opens in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs

“Step up your fashion game with a stop at this West Side boutique.”

On May 12, 2018, the merchandise story DisneyStyle opened in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs shopping area. The shop sells fashion merchandise with a Disney spin, including the popular spirit jerseys, patches of beloved Disney characters, and fashion-forward Minnie Mouse ears. The pieces available range from honoring Disney characters to popular park attractions.
