June 4, 2008 – The United Kingdom Tour Production of Mary Poppins Kicks Off

“The supercalifragilisticexpialidocious international hit!”

On June 4, 2008, the United Kingdom touring production of Mary Poppins kicked off at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth. The tour, opening five months after the West End production closed, traveled to many popular venues within the United Kingdom, including the Hippodrome in Birmingham, and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. It featured Caroline Sheen as Mary Poppins, Daniel Crossley as Bert, Martin Ball as George Banks, and Louise Bowden as Winifred Banks. The tour concluded on April 18, 2009.

April 24, 2015 – The Musical Show King Triton’s Concert Opens in Tokyo DisneySea

On April 24, 2015, the new musical show King Triton’s Concert opened in Tokyo DisneySea’s revamped Mermaid Lagoon Theater. Based on the hit animated feature The Little Mermaid, the musical show features an actress playing Ariel suspended on wires and “swimming” above the audience while singing with friends Sebastian and Flounder. The show is about 14 minutes long, and features a variety of special effects and puppetry.

April 15, 1996 – The Attraction Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On April 15, 1996, the dark ride attraction Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Toontown area. Based on the hit film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and derived from the original Disneyland attraction that opened in 1994, the attraction takes guests through the back alleys of Toontown via Lenny the Cab. Seated two to a car, guests can turn the cab to face all sorts of directions, even riding the attraction backwards if they so wish.

April 12, 1992 – The Merchandise Store Sir Mickey’s Boutique Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Cross the stone floor to claim your prized Disney toy, accessory or plush.”

On April 12, 1992, the merchandise store Sir Mickey’s Boutique opened in Disneyland Paris’ Fantasyland. The store, decorated in the style of classic Disney short films Mickey and the Beanstalk and Brave Little Tailor, mainly sells toys and plush dolls, along with a limited variety of related accessories. A similar store opened in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park in 1996, replacing the Mickey’s Christmas Carol and The AristoCats shops.

February 4, 2005 – Tokyo Disneyland Announces New Hotel

On February 4, 2005, the Oriental Land Company, Ltd. announced that an agreement had been signed with the Walt Disney Company to build a third hotel for the Tokyo Disneyland theme park. This was deemed necessary due to the growth of visitors to the resort, along with the other two hotels – Disney Ambassador Hotel and Tokyo DisneySea MiraCosta – reaching 90% capacity annually. The hotel was announced to be a nine-story, 700 room resort that would cost about 44 billion yen (about $391,000,000). It was also announced to have a Victorian theme to reflect the surrounding World Bazaar theme area nearby.

January 6, 2011 – Disney Publishing Worldwide Reports One Million App Downloads

On January 6, 2011, Disney Publishing Worldwide hit a major milestone when it was reported that they had reached one million downloads of their book apps the world over. Of the nine book apps made available on Apple products, they had all been in the Top 10 Paid Book Apps list since the iPad’s release in April 2010.

December 24, 2001 – Navidad Mágica Disney Premieres on Univision

On December 24, 2001, the Spanish-language special Navidad Mágica Disney premiered on Univision. The hour-long special featured popular entertainers Bobby Pulido, Daniela Aedo, and Myra, performing from the four parks that make up Walt Disney World. Subsequent versions of this broadcast have been shown on Disney Channel in Spanish speaking countries.

December 19, 1999 – The Playground Area La Plage des Pirates Opens n Disneyland Paris

On December 19, 1999, the playground area La Plage des Pirates, known as Pirates’ Beach in English, opened in Disneyland Paris’ Adventureland. Loosely based on the animated feature film Peter Pan, the area gives younger children a chance to be pirates and search for treasure near Skull Rock. Kids can play in two different playgrounds, complete with slides, rope ladders, and other interesting activities.

December 13, 1996 – The Merchandise Store Planet M Opens in Tokyo Disneyland

On December 13, 1996, the general merchandise and toy store Planet M opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland area. The store’s back story includes Mickey Mouse discovering Planet M, which was full of the raw materials toys are made from, and Mickey then started overseeing production of toys via the new shop. The shop sells a variety of things, ranging from toys to rain gear.

December 9, 1993 – Le Passage Enchanté d’Aladdin Attraction Opens in Disneyland Paris

On December 9, 1993, the walkthrough attracktion Le Passage Enchanté d’Aladdin opened in Disneyland Paris’s Adventureland area. Guests walk down passageways, reliving the movie one major scene at a time via miniature scenes. It is recommended for younger guests.
