September 5, 1974 – The Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue Begins in Fort Wilderness’ Pioneer Hall

“Get ready to clap your hands, stomp your feet, sing along and have a good ol’ time at rustic Pioneer Hall in Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.”

On September 5, 1974, the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue began its performances in Pioneer Hall, located in the Fort Wilderness resort and campground of Walt Disney World. Guests sit down to a buffet of American barbeque favorites, including ribs and fried chicken, while they enjoy a two-hour-long Wild West themed show. The show is presented by performers the likes of Claire de Lune, Johnny Ringo, Dolly Drew, Six Bits Slocum, Flora Long, and Jim Handy. . Guests have three different seating options: the main floor, the back balcony, and the side balconies, and must pay in advance to get reservations. A version of the show opened in Tokyo Disneyland’s Diamond Horseshoe in 1983.

August 21, 2011 – Disney’s Phineas and Ferb: The Best LIVE Tour Ever! Live Show Begins

“Phineas and Ferb are gonna do it all!”

On August 21, 2011, the live touring production Disney’s Phineas and Ferb: The Best LIVE Tour Ever! began its run in Lakeland, Florida. It was a ninety-minute production featuring the characters from the hit Disney Channel Original Series, with actors in costumes playing the parts. The show mostly featured songs from the series, including “Everything’s Better with Perry” and “Summer Belongs to You,” as well as Broadway standards, such as “I Feel Pretty” from West Side Story and “One” from A Chorus Line; an original song called “We’re Gonna Put On a Show!” was written just for the production. The production ended after two touring seasons, with its last performance taking place in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 17, 2013.

July 6, 1993 – The Theatrical Production Disney’s Symphonic Fantasy Opens at the Metropolitan Opera House

“…a live show that uses a live symphony orchestra to perform music made famous by and in Disney features would seem a natural, which is what Disney’s Symphonic Fantasy is all about.”

On July 6, 1993, the touring theatrical production Disney’s Symphonic Fantasy began its run, opening at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. The production celebrated the music from classic Disney films, and featured 90 musicians from the American Symphony Orchestra, along with a 32-member chorus and 18 dancers. Over 200 Disney characters were represented in the show, with scenes ranging from Fantasia to Aladdin. The production traveled to 22 cities across the United States, working with a new orchestra in each city.

April 11, 1992 – The Beauty and the Beast Stage Show Begins in Disneyland’s Videopolis

“Tale as old as time…”

On April 11, 1992, the stage show version of the animated feature film Beauty and the Beast opened at Disneyland’s Videopolis area. It was similar to the stage version that premiered in Walt Disney World, but featured a different script, along with different sets and costumes. The show was highly popular, leading to the creation of the Broadway version of the animated film. The Disneyland version of the show closed on April 30, 1995. Although a new version of the stage show still runs in Walt Disney World, there have been no plans to open a version again in Disneyland.

February 25, 2003 – The Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show Opens at Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort

“Enjoy an enchanting luau with Polynesian dancing and an all-you-care-to-enjoy, family-style feast.”

On February 25, 2003, the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show opened at Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort. This show replaced the Polynesian Review luau show that had been running since 1971. The show is filled with dancers and drummers, with a special performance by someone skilled with a fire-knife. The show is hosted in the Luau Cove, an open-air theater, and hosts performances from several different cultures, including Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, and Hawaii. Guests must buy tickets before the show, as there are three different seating options to choose from. The dinner provided at the show is an all-you-can-eat buffet style, featuring several authentic Polynesian dishes; guests of age can also purchase a special cocktail in a keepsake coconut.

February 23, 2003 – Snow White – An Enchanting New Musical Premieres in Disneyland

On February 23, 2003, the stage show Snow White – An Enchanting New Musical premiered in Disneyland’s Fantasyland Theater. Based on the hit animated film that started it all, the 28-minute production was the most elaborate show produced exclusively in the park’s theater. The musical ran until 2006 when it was replaced by the Disney Princess Fantasy Faire. The show was free with park admission. It was directed by Eric Schaeffer, with the show adapted by Norman Allen and Darrah Cloud. It originally starred Anne Warren as Snow White, Stuart Ambrose as the Prince, Elizabeth Wardland as the Queen, Lisa Wolpe as the Hag, and featured the voice of Patrick Stewart as the Magic Mirror.

September 30, 2006 – Dream-Along With Mickey Debuts at Walt Disney World

“Mickey invites you to join him and celebrate the magic of dreams at this fun-filled, dream-inspired musical show where adventure and ‘happily ever after’ come alive right in front of your eyes.”

On September 30, 2006, the musical stage show Dream-Along With Mickey debuted at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The show stars not only Mickey and the gang, but includes appearances by Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White, Captain Hook, and Peter Pan, among others. As the celebration part of the show begins, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty appears, and Mickey has to stop her from turning dreams into nightmares, with the help of the audience. The show is 20 minutes long, and takes place at Main Street within the Magic Kingdom.
