April 25, 2007 – The Attraction Project Tomorrow: Inventing the Wonders of the Future Opens in Epcot

“Disembark from your time travel experience where an emerging world of wonders awaits your arrival.”

On April 25, 2007, the Spaceship Earth post-show attraction Project Tomorrow: Inventing the Wonders of the Future opened in Walt Disney World’s Epcot. The area, formerly AT&T Global Neighborhood, gives guests an interactive experience with emerging technologies in the fields of healthcare, energy, and more. Companies such as Siemens were highly involved in the creation of the area, giving guests a good introduction into the many technological discoveries that await them within the park. The attraction also boasts being one of the first to have an interactive element that can be carried over into online interactivity. A smaller version of this attraction was built for Disneyland, built within Innoventions.

April 15, 1973 – The Attraction The Walt Disney Story Opens on Walt Disney World’s Main Street

On April 15, 1973, the attraction The Walt Disney Story opened on Main Street in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park. The attraction was a movie about Walt Disney, narrated by Walt himself through archival footage, and was one of the only free attractions at the park, as coupons were still being used at the time. The queue for the attraction also gave guests a look at some rare Disney memorabilia and collectables. While similar to the original Disneyland attraction, the Walt Disney World version gave guests a look at what was to come, including a look at Epcot, as well as a look at the Disney-MGM Studios. The attraction closed on October 5, 1992.

April 8, 2008 – Disney Legend Julie Andrews is Honored with Carousel Horse at Disneyland

“I’ve never lost touch and never lost my feeling of family with Disney, and I am so proud to be a cast member.”

On April 8, 2008, actress, Disney Legend, and 50th anniversary ambassador of Disneyland Julie Andrews was honored with a special carousel horse on King Arthur’s Carousel. The lead horse, named Jingles, was repainted with a more ornate design, honoring Andrews’ more than 40 years of dedication to the Walt Disney Company, including a saddle featuring her initials, images depicting her famous role as British nanny Mary Poppins, along with the number 50 to represent the park’s 50th anniversary, for which she was the ambassador and made an honorary cast member. On hand to present the horse was Imagineer and fellow Disney Legend Marty Sklar.

April 2, 2007 – The Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Attraction Opens in Walt Disney World

“Discover the power of laughter from the original Monsters of Comedy during a hilarious interactive show.”

On April 2, 2007, the interactive attraction Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor opened in Walt Disney World’s Tomorrowland area. The attraction, featuring characters from the Pixar films Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University, takes guests into a comedy club in the heart of Monstropolis, where character Mike has duties as the M.C. Guests are implored to laugh at the jokes in order to build up enough power to open the doors at the end of the show. Using special technology, the comedians interact with the audience, including choosing one audience member to be “that guy,” the butt of every joke. While waiting for the show to begin, guests are also asked to provide their own jokes through text messages that may be used during one of the show’s acts.

March 1, 1999 – The Maharajah Jungle Trek Attraction Opens in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park

“Embark on a self-guided tour of Southeast Asia – home to tigers, fruit bats, dozens of species of birds and a flying fox.”

On March 1, 1999, the Maharajah Jungle Trek attraction opened in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. Located in Asia, guests are sent into the Anandapur Royal Forest, a former hunting ground turned animal preserve, where they can encounter several types of animals. The area is part of Disney’s commitment to wildlife conservation, providing several endangered species a home with a natural environment, including waterfalls and other jungle flora and fauna. Guests are able to tour the area by themselves, exploring “abandoned temples” while seeing animals in their natural habitats.

February 28, 2003 – The Attraction Test the Limits Lab Opens in Innoventions

On February 28, 2003, the new interactive attraction hosted by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. called Test the Limits Lab opened in Ecpot’s Innoventions area. The area hosted five exhibits for kids to test, acting in the role of an engineer to test products in an effort to teach guests about product safety. The exhibits included tests on firefighters’ helmets and television screens. The attraction closed on January 6, 2015.

December 22, 2007 – The Attraction Twilight Zone Tower of Terror: Un Saut dans la Quatrième Dimension Opens in Disneyland Paris

“Face your fears and plunge 13 unlucky floors into the Twilight Zone amid the faded glamour of this haunted hotel.”

On December 22, 2007, the fourth version of the popular Walt Disney World attraction The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opened in Disneyland Paris. The attraction, given the subtitle Un Saut dans la Quatrième Dimension, keeps the same backstory of the five unlucky souls lost to another dimension while traveling in the elevator of the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Guests board the elevator and ascend 13 floors as the story of the doomed passengers is revealed, and the guests are then taken to another dimension. The elevator then freefalls, with a random assortment of additional freefalls added to each ride experience.

December 6, 2012 – The Epcot Attraction Test Track Reopens

On December 6, 2012, the popular Epcot attraction Test Track reopened. Closed since April, the newly revamped attraction features a new sponsorship through Chevrolet, along with an emphasis on the creation of a car at the newly designed Chevrolet Design Center. Each car is developed via four testing criteria: capability, responsiveness, efficiency, and power. Guests can then take their cars through the Test Track circuit, racing at a peak speed of 65 mph.

November 27, 1997 – The Disneyland Attraction it’s a small world is Redone for the Holidays

“There’s so much that we share that it’s time we’re aware it’s a small world after all.”

On November 27, 1997, he Disneyland attraction it’s a small world was redone for the first time for the holiday season. Colored lights and special holiday themed ornaments and costumes are added to the outer façade as well as the inside attraction, with the holiday songs “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls” interwoven with the original song. The holiday version proved popular enough to be added to the versions of the attraction in Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland

November 24, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club Circus Opens in Disneyland

On November 24, 1955, the Mickey Mouse Club Circus opened in Disneyland; the attraction is considered one of Walt’s few failures. The circus, itself a way to get some publicity for the show, featured several of the popular cast members, including Annette Funicello and Doreen Tracey. The kids would perform various circus acts, but the failure of the circus came in attendance – Disneyland had so many things to explore, and people didn’t want to attend a circus while there. The show lasted one holiday season before it was closed on January 8, 1956.
